Very nice recent chat with Marcia Lucas and Duwayne Dunham:

Marcia Lucas...that's a name I haven't heard in a long time but always remained curious about how and what she was doing.

Great video, great anecdotes (it's the first time I heard the Staw Wars opening day hamburger diner story from an eyewitness and wasn't aware of that last-minute addition to Raiders of the Lost Ark) and good to see that Marcia Lucas kept her humor.

Thank you for posting it! =D=

TBPH I'd love to see Marcia Lucas in an upcoming Star Wars film!!! :)

Very UNDER appreciated creative component in the films. She really had a great knack for editing/pacing and helping Lucas get rid of the filler. She was missed in the prequels.

She was pretty much emotionally absent during ROTJ's post production too.

    Yes and no.

She is under-appreciated because she has never really told her story and was really absent from the contemporaneous interviews at the time.

So what she actually did outside of actual editing work that can be documented is not known. On the other hand for those who despise Lucas and want to do everything they possibly can to take credit away from him try to make it about everyone but him. So they elevate people like Kurtz, Kasdan and Kershner to levels that are ludicrous. They'd like to try to do the same for Marcia but it's hard to expound on her involvement because it's mostly nebulous. Kurtz has spent years talking himself up but while Lucas created Indiana Jones with Spielberg, did Young Indy, the prequels and TCW not as much happened for Kurtz.

Actually if anything one of the things she did was to try to get Lucas to keep "filler" in but as with the Luke with friends on Tatooine scenes she failed. In others she succeeded.

I hear or read that sentiment but I don't see the actual application. In what way was she missed? Whatever lessons Lucas learned from her or his other collaborators was something that he applied during the prequels. I don't think that Lucas' fundamental approach to the emotion of the characters as seen in ANH was to spend time exploring them. How much of that he learned during the OT and then applied that to the PT which was far more emotional in depth is the question.

The impression is that she didn't have much to do with the movies outside of ANH besides some basic editing chores.

Also there are a bunch of those interviews with the crew:

Couldn't have said it better. I imagine that, had they remained married, she would have helped Lucas get rid of the filler in their personal life, but that's pure speculation.

Wish she was successful in convincing George to keep the Anchorhead scenes in the movie.

^ ...or at least have these digitally restored so one might get a chance to see and experience the alternate, extended edition of ANH. ;)

Well, maybe Marcia Lucas didn't write history, but she dang sure cut and edited it! :D

I remember reading elsewhere that Marcia Lucas was responsible for editing the Battle of Yavin. What a bravura set piece, and I'm not sure it will ever be topped.

Jeez. Can't believe someone tried to turn this thread giving Marcia a well earned and long overdue chance to provide her perspective into a diatribe about Lucas-haters.

Not sure how much she did considering she won an award(which I presume is pretty solid). I will say that, yes, she stayed quite hidden from everyone. This could be because of some of the story where she had a fallout with Lucas and others, therefore creating a reluctance. Eh..Its not my place to even start. The entire debacle is a mystery and not all the details are known.

Besides that, I am quite happy that she has shown her face again and doing Well.

And it looks like both Lucas and her have moved past everything, so speaking of the history during their marriage seems a tad redundant.

This was a great listen from the both of them. Even outside of Star Wars, I wish Marcia had a chance to do more with movies because she must have been very talented judging from all the movies she assisted.
