Just got back in from watching the Rose Bowl at a sports bar here in Columbus. Place was electric and fun, even if the DJ MCing the thing was annoying and bad at his job. Great, great game. Coming out early and throwing, it was good to see Pryor mature. His interception wasn't that bad, as it was pretty much a punt, and with the way the Buckeyes kick coverage was today, it was actually probably better. Posey showed up big and looks to be the next big one out of WRU. I think by out gaining Oregon's entire offense Pryor showed why he has so much hype, why he was the #1 recruit in the country, and why he's going to be on the preseason Heisman watch lists next year. I did, however, find a great deal of irony that OSU's one problem today was special teams. It hardly seemed like a Tressel team: passing a lot, going for it on fourth down, not playing for FGs late in the game, and bad special teams plays. Wonderful to have the monkey (at least a bit) off the back. And, a good day for the Big Ten overall. I now Northwestern lost to Auburn, but I think they came out looking better than Auburn did, even in the loss. Plus, Penn State over LSU and Ohio State winning a BCS game. Not back entirely, but how perceptions could change, especially if Iowa wins the Orange Bowl (I don't think they will).
I love the SEC, but I am very happy for Penn State! Hooray for JoePa! And congratulations to Bobby Bowden as well. There's something I thought I'd never say. And even though I love the Gators and Tebow to death, a Tebow cam is a bit silly.
Wow ... I feel for UC and their fans. Been there as far as the Bowl Game beatdown to Florida goes. But, on the heels of losing your coach to a bigger program and when you were a replay away from the title game ... Yikes.
Gamecocks play today! I'll miss the opening though, because I'm at the USC basketball game which ends at the same time the bowl game starts.
Hell of a catch by Moore in the UConn game. Not really our style, but I'll take a big play touchdown through the air.
This is probably a little late in coming, but congrats, rech! Clemson played very well and took away everything Kentucky wanted to do on offense (namely the Wildcat with Randall Cobb). Who thought that the third quarter of the Rose Bowl was outstanding? Just me?
Thanks! Yeah I was surprised how effectively we shut you down, considering how poorly we did vs the run against USC and GT.
Don't know if anyone here has already seen this, but I thought it was ridiculous: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Liberty-Bowl-dessert-tray-tears-East-Carolina-te?urn=ncaaf,211437
Embarrassing. And I'm talking both about that article and about Carolina's performance today. Inexcusable.
And here I thought that these kids were going to school strictly for academics. Seriously, don't they have cheesecake in Carolina?
This says it all. <img src="http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l123/elenion13/uscmissing.jpg" width="432"> (thanks to a friend of mine who made that)
Ok, we step back. Mentioning Carolina in reference to the article led me to presume that that time we were talking about the East one.
Yeah, I guess I didn't make that clear. Still, whenever I say "Carolina", I'm probably talking about South Carolina
It's like pronouns. When the first half of the statement involved a Carolina.... Though East Carolina has now taken to an interesting new strategy.
I was just on Mill Avenue in Tempe and the place was swarming with Boise State fans. My high school colors are the same as theirs and so I've seen that much orange and blue before, but only in that context. Never anywhere else.
I know this isn't even the biggest college football story of the day, but Kentucky coach Rich Brooks announces his retirement. Brooks' legacy will be that of a man who did his best to turn formerly wayward programs around. He got Oregon to the Rose Bowl, and he took Kentucky to four straight bowl games for the first time in school history. Thank you, Papaw Brooks, and good luck in retirement!
Best wishes to coach Brooks! According to a trivia game I was at last night, Brooks was one of only two current SEC coaches to have a college stadium/field named after him. The other, however, was apparently Steve Spurrier ... at ETSU (huh??)... and ETSU doesn't even have a football team anymore, apparently. What the heck?
It's at University of Phoenix Stadium, which seems to help. It's a very young stadium but it has already hosted several great big games.
