Just trying to find out if people use 5.1 on their films.?
On my Starship Troopers film I used vegas 4 to create the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, but...
The dvd burning software that comes with it does not have the option to add subtitles.
    My question is.
Does anyone know any software that will burn DVD's with the options for subtitles and still keep the AC3 sound ( D.D 5.1 )
    I'm using Windows.

    Thanks

Pretty sure Adobe Encore will allow that.

if you were on a mac i'd say Final Cut Pro 4 for your editing (since it lets you designate audio channels to output to - no, i dont mean audio tracks, i mean channels) and dvd studio pro 2 (since it then recognizes those channels as surround with bass, a-la 5.1, AND it does subtitles BEAUTIFULLY...

Encore will do it. As will Ulead DVD Workshop 2 when it is released.

I believe DVD Workshop 1 will do it if you purchase the AC3 add-on.

As a hearing-impaired person, can I just say "thanks" for putting subtitles in your DVD? I mean, I know with online films that's really hard to do because compression can make it difficult to read, and no one wants to cover up part of their hard work with words that not many people will read. So when it's an option like that, thanks.

Premiere Pro is quite 5.1 capable and integrates with Encore well. I'm certain Encore will handle the subtitles - but I'm sad to say my efforts won't incorporate them... I can see it now:

    "THOK!"
    "VOOM!"
    "PISSSHHHH"

Cool! How does 5.1 work? Do you have 6 channels, though? Can you put each sound effct, or voices on several channels, so that they can be heard only from one specific sound box? cool... I need to have that technic

The Vegas Software should work fine. I can Create the DVD NTSC stream as one render. Then use the AC3 plugin (sold as an add on to Vegas) to create the audio stream. It integrates flawlessly with the DVD Architect app . Vegas has detailed info in the help file on how to do this.

In Premiere Pro you have 2 options for 5.1 mixing: you can either use 5.1 files, or you can pan mono clips (you cannot pan stereo clips).

Basically it works the same way as you would pan mono into a stereo track, except in this case you pan in front-rear and left-right. You can do this either with the mixer by moving a little puck in 2D (which I find very difficult - and it produces WAY too many keyframes to edit manually)... or placing individual keyframes on the audio track (note - you actually pan tracks, not clips). In addition, you have a center channel volume level, as well as an LFE volume level. Hence - if you want more or less LFE you can crank it's channel, and if you're doing dialogue you can force it out of the center channel.

I'm with Dev on this one - FCP and DVD SP are a great combination.

been using it for years, haven't done a proper 5.1 track yet, but i will for my films/movies.

    anyway,
