Yeah... It feels like it should be a simple, fun story of two pseudo-classy professional killers trying to outfox each other, like a prototype 006 vs 007 or Bond vs Silva, where Lee playing an Evil James Bond who's also a James Bond Fanboy could be maximized for even more creepy parallels. ...And also where an awesome car stunt wouldn't get ruined by a slide whistle.
I hope they go back to the non-serial stories for Bond films. Having characters make repeat appearances is fine, but we don't need a continuous storyline for the next Bond films. Skyfall almost served that purpose...until Spectre.
Yeah, I'm with @Havac -- I definitely rate TMWTGG much higher than others and I have a ridiculous soft-spot for a lot of it, but... it's not great. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_oil_crisis Uh, it was a BIG DEAL back then...
Definitely. And I love how it reveals that it's a direct sequel to Casino Royale. When he opens the Aston Martin's trunk and says "it's time to get out" to Mr. White, you realize that he put Mr. White in his trunk right after answering him with "Bond... James Bond" at the end of CR.
So I went to my local video store this evening and was able to purchase all of the 007 films you guys recommended. I got: You Only Live Twice On Her Majesty's Secret Service For Your Eyes Only The Living Daylights License to Kill Tomorrow Never Dies No Time to Die Looking forward to watching these. Thank you for the suggestions everyone. @gezvader28 @Jedimarine @Havac
I've been making my way through the Bond films I've not seen due to their lower ratings and each time I realize more and more just how saturated the Austin Powers movies are with direct references/parodies.
Spectre wouldn't have been the least bit better without that "revelation", but I'll never cease to be flummoxed that the creative team thought it was acceptable. It seems like the sort of conceit cooked up by a couple of undergraduates at the tail-end of a bender.
What I think should have happened: instead of Quantum being part of Spectre all along, the remnants of Quantum are absorbed by Spectre in the aftermath of Quantum of Solace. Mr. White is aghast at how much more brutal Spectre is than Quantum and refuses to join the organization. Then Blofeld orders his death and then his daughter's. As for Blofeld and Bond...they wouldn't be stepbrothers. However, Blofeld recognizes that Bond and MI6 could be a threat to his plans. So, he still supports Silva's actions in Skyfall if nothing else but to cause a disruption to MI6 and keep their attention focused elsewhere.
They haven’t even started casting the new Bond yet: https://www.ladbible.com/entertainment/james-bond-producer-007-casting-000129-20230219
Ugh no one should be waiting around for news on this front. If in 5 years they announce bond 7 count yourself lucky. At least with the next series the film releases will be more consistent.
Broccoli has previously noted how Craig had 'cracked Bond open emotionally', saying that same emotional heft would be required of future 007s. I like this statement.
Didn't novel Bond go rogue (through no fault of his own but being captured and brainwashed) in The Man With The Golden Gun?
I think it was License to Kill in the original movie continuity, and then Quantum of Solace and Spectre in the Craig-continuity.
I've been saying for a while that I really don't think any of the many rumored options is that interesting to EON. They're still not in a hurry, and I'm OK with that. Although it would be nice to know whether the actor they eventually pick has even been born yet.
Ugh I hate Barbra broccoli she should sell. She's the problem. It's a shame. Dn, frwl, gf and yolt all came out in one year. Then the norm was every two years. Craig's films aren't that bad averaging like 3 years, but they were inconsistent sorta and the next series could be planned out better probably. Just going to need lots of time to develop a great foundation for bond 7.
