Kimono Disney Princesses : Maid Marian by Atomicfrog83 on DeviantArt
    [IMG]
There is a long time I was thinking about it, drawing the Disney princess in Kimono.
Here is Maid Marianne from "Robin hood".

Maid Marianne live in around the middle age, so I made her wear a junihitoe, the traditional court kimono from the heian period.
This kimono is the famous twelve layers one, It can weight around 20 kilos.
I just took the color from her pink dress and put them on the junihitoe ... so many layer, so many line... this was a true pain !

    Here is Pocahontas.

This one is a bit special, she is not wearing a kimono, but a traditional ainu outfit.
Ainu are like native americain but for japan. They lived in the north of japan on the Hokkaido island.
Like native americain they were massacred and now they live in small reservation, discriminated and not yet consider as true japanese.

For the motif on the dress I take the tatto she have on her arm.

Street Light (1909) – Giacomo Balla
    Media: Oil on Canvas
    Location: MoMA, New York

So, full confession, I love the Futurists. Their artistic philosophy revolved around a love of technology and a near unbridled optimism about, well, the Future. They arose in the early years of the Twentieth Century and they were fascinated with capturing things in art that static art, like sculpture and painting, had never been able to capture before: movement, speed, sound. Theirs was a vibrant, hopeful, bright and optimistic movement. It was among the many casualties of the “War to End All Wars.” Post-1918, a lot of the Futurists had drifted into Dada, an art predicated on the meaninglessness of existence and the power of embracing randomness and nonsense.

But in the early days of the Futurists, there was Italian painter Giacomo Balla and I think Street Light is one of those paintings that you can just basically show to anybody and they’ll be like, “Wow, that’s cool!” Because it’s just cool and beautiful and vibrant. The colors and the glow of the light are just really beautiful and striking. I also really love the darkness surrounding the light; he captures the halo of the street light glow. The Futurist element here is that Balla was depicting some of the very first electric street lights in Europe, but you don’t need to know that to love this painting. And I really, really love this painting.

And, look, like I said, I love Balla and I think it’s ridiculous that they only put one of his paintings on the list, so I’m going to share a couple of others that I really love. Here’s Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash from 1912.

This is Balla trying to capture movement and he absolutely does it in the blurred images of the dog’s legs, tail and ears. There’s such wit and character to this painting and I’m darned if it doesn’t also kind of capture sound as well. Are you telling me you can’t HEAR the jingling chain and the clicking nails on the pavement?

He’s also capturing movement in another, more expressive and almost abstracted, way in The Hand of the Violinist from 1912.

I love the line work here and the rush of it. There’s just such ******* energy to the work of Giacomo Balla. It makes me happy to look at it. It makes me smile. It makes me feel good in a way that, admittedly, a lot of painting and sculpture and especially Modern Art just doesn’t. It’s a blast. I love it.

Okay, next time, it’s another one-off artist and, um, wow, I’m actually surprised it took us this long to get to a nude. Time to PM a mod! Will we skip it? Link to it? Spoiler tag it? I guess we’ll see.
