Team up of two different kinds: One, Inspo is Legion of Monsters first featured in Marvel Premiere #28 (and one of my prized wall of horror framed issues featured on my main floor Bronze Age Horror hallway display) and a chance to try something fun: team up with three other artists and feature their work as part of an art jam. The jams are done all the time pen and paper but digitally, a much rarer animal. So Werewolf By Night is by me, Morbius by the amazing Franco Carlesimo, Man Thing by the unreal DopePope and the old school Ghost Rider by the incredible Kfir Merlaub. Hope you enjoy the experiment!

Today's sketch: Tomb of Dracula. This one is an homage to the cover of ToD #1 from back in April 1972. I've loved this Neal Adams cover since I first saw it as a kid WAY back, several years after its publishing date. Marvel bronze age horror was a gateway drug for me and all the pantheon - Ghost Rider, Dracula, Son of Satan, Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, Morbius, Frankenstein Monster, Living Zombie, Bloodstone, Brother Voodoo, Mordred the Mystic, Man-Wolf all hold a special place for me in my mostly empty head and mostly full heart. Personal work of the day. Let's be clear: I'm no Boris Vallejo but I did always love his early work and this one is an homage to his timeless Tales of the Zombie. My version was inspired by a recent cover project that we switched directions on but I figured having come as far as I had might as well take it over the finish line. One thing we differ on is I'm not a big fan of the damsel is distress aesthetic I prefer them fighting back with no need of rescue or submission so for mine she's pissed off but otherwise just having fun and taking a break from my huge NDA superhero project that has all but consumed my life.

I am utterly speechless as the comic artist community rallied around me yesterday (I finally told a favorite comic art agent about the November assault and other from last year simply because she kept showing me all these gorgeous Daredevil pieces I had to refuse), then she put out the call to her team for a quick Daredevil/Matt Murdock piece to cheer me up. A few of these folks are on tight deadlines.

It’s not just simply due to my being a very good client and friends with a few of the artists in this agency, I really love the medium and I do everything to champion these folks because I adore what they do and how they inspire me.
