Most of this will be an extended description of what life was like on Kalee.

?Grievous? dreamed of Kalee, of his rough-and-tumble childhood playing with others his age, of battles fought against the Huk, and of Ylenia most of all. In his dreams she would always be with him, as vibrant and beautiful as she had always been. He dreamed of being home again, of returning to how he had been before the transformation. The bright green fields of Kalee, where one could see forever, into an almost-infinity of green-gold grasses rippling in the warm wind? The great river Rawiya, flowing cool and clean, sparkling in the light, water splashing upon rounded stones, little fishes darting to and fro, sunlight flashing off their scales? The giant trees, hundreds of meters tall with trunks so wide that a dozen Kaleesh could link hands and not go even halfway round, thick yet soft bark easily pierced by sharp talons, thick branches fit playground for children who filled the forest with delighted laughter and made the dappled sunlight dance upon the forest floor as they leapt from tree to tree simply for the sheer pleasure of leaping? The forest floor itself, where fallen leaves rendered already soft footfalls silent, thick scrub hiding the enticing possibility of finding prey in the muffled infinity of sunbeams and shadows? High, sheer cliffs, so steep as to be almost vertical, cracked and crumbling rocks offering ample purchase for the talons of those brave enough to search for prey or harvest the plants that grew upon their height? The sea, cool salt spray that stung the eyes, young children learning the patience needed for hunting by spearfishing knee-deep in the warmer tide pools, he remembered that he had once done the same himself, an impatient child always trying new ways to catch the fish? Ah, the sea! He remembered watching the older children diving in the deeper water to collect shellfish living at the bottom, envying them until he grew old enough to join them? The more daring children, those braver, stronger or faster than the rest, having great fun and daring each other to snatch the fish out of the water barehanded rather than spearing them? Growing up and joining the hunters who targeted larger prey, making a name for himself with the infallible strategies he used, outwitting and outmaneuvering the prey until he was almost at the top. One other had surpassed him, only one, and that was the great General himself? Ylenia. The memory of her stirred a mixture of feelings within him, grief and pain at her loss, love so pure as to be absolute, and a frenzy of joy at the knowledge that she returned his love. On a clear summer night they made their vows before the gods, the moons shining down upon two lovers without a care in the world beyond the moment. That was when the war intruded upon things. It had always been a distant concern, not something they thought could touch their little village by the sea, but touch them it did. He too had heeded the call going out across the land, summoning all able-bodied warriors to join the battle for Kalee. He and Ylenia had been wed for mere days before he himself was summoned. He remembered how honored he had felt to learn that he had been asked for by name. His brilliance as a child made him the perfect person to collaborate with the General as his second, working together on strategies. In time, however, they became more than colleagues? they became friends. The General trusted him alone. Then that day came, that terrible day? Watching lasers streak out of nowhere to take the life of his General, his friend, and then they came for him, lancing toward his face as he cringed in instinctive fear, looking death in the face, and then the pain?

CRASH! The sound of metal striking metal awakened ?Grievous? and it took him a few minutes to figure out where he was. ?I?m back in my room?? He tried to stand up, but he found he couldn?t quite manage it, eliciting an unhappy growl, which rose to an enraged roar once he remembered what had happened. He?d had him? He?d had Sidiou

Okay, here's more. Chapter 11: Shame.

Padme awakened in the night to the faint sound of distant battle, lightsabers included. Pregnant or not, she wasn?t about to let that stop her, so she got up and headed out to see what was the matter. Following the sounds, she found herself headed straight for the gym. A metallic-sounding war cry resounded as she opened the door to behold ?Grievous? in full battle array, all four lightsabers blurring as he leapt to and fro in a battle with articificial practice targets and imaginary opponents. He seemed unusually focused, even angry, rage building even as he weakened. A sideways leap ended with his legs buckling beneath him, all four lightsabers shutting off as he dropped them. Now kneeling, four arms returned to being two as he quietly bowed his head and covered his face. ?I am a warrior. Warriors don?t cry.? He repeated that mantra to himself over and over even as his shoulders shook. ?Gavros?? They all used his true name, but in his heart he would always think of himself as Grievous. He looked up, surprised to hear her voice. ?Lady Padme?? She stepped closer. ?Are you all right? You shouldn?t be pushing yourself so hard yet. You?re still recovering.? As if in reply, he mumbled, ?I couldn?t even touch him.? She didn?t quite catch what he said, but that was quickly remedied when he howled it, the pain and rage in his voice causing her to step back a little bit. ?I couldn?t even touch him!? That cry would have been frightening but for the sheer pain in it. He was angry with himself for his failure, ashamed of how quickly and easily he was taken down because Sidious was an old man, dang it, and so should have been easy prey. Sidious should have been an easy kill; where did he go wrong?

He didn?t register Padme?s movement or her touch upon his armored shoulders until she had pulled him into a close embrace, at least as best she could, considering the size difference between them. She was a small woman and he was bigger than most if not all men. Still he started and let out a shocked gasp, for the moment completely blown away by that simple act. ?Lady Padme?? She said softly, ?It?s all right for humans to hug their friends if they need it.? Uncertain how to respond but knowing he had to, he slowly, gingerly returned the hug, being especially careful with his powerful metal talons. ?You did the best you could,? she said. ?But none of us knew he could do that. Even a Jedi would be hard-pressed to counter such a thing.? But he was barely listening. He hadn?t realized how much he had missed the feeling of a friendly touch, something he hadn?t experienced since his transformation. Losing himself in the moment, he let his head come down to rest upon her shoulder and closed his eyes. Ylenia? His mind was flooded with memories of his lost love, filling him with pain and joy in equal measure. For a moment he was almost able to make himself forget all that had happened and believe he was back in Ylenia?s arms again, loving and loved. But it was just an illusion; deep down he could never forget that. He?d never let his mental and emotional defenses down this far before, simply allowing himself to remember and feel, and it couldn?t help but show. Warriors didn?t cry, but widowers did. The memories were coming faster and faster, surges of emotion crashing through him. He tried to explain, ?Ylenia? I loved her, Lady Padme; I loved her? but now she?s? gone?? She simply held him and let him hold her, remembering when she had held Anakin in this way, after the death of his mother.

This may seem a little odd, but take a moment to THINK about it. He's lost everything. His wife, his family, his home, his entire species... So cut some slack, okay?

As always... Read, review, get more.

Wow, an angry mob... Guess I'd better give you the next installment!

    Chapter 12: Reconciliation

?Grievous? didn?t know how long they stayed like that, but he knew he would never forget the kindness shown him. The moment fractured and fell away when he noticed that Padme had gone limp in his arms. Uncertain and concerned, he laid her down on the floor. ?Lady Padme? Lady Padme, wake up?? He crouched over her like a vulture, prodding her gently with careful claws. Eventually he seized her shoulder and shook her gently. ?Lady Padme, please, you must wake up?? When she didn?t respond to even that, he knew something was wrong. He began to pace like a big cat, trying to think of what to do. ?The medbay? I must get her there somehow. But how do I do this without harming her accidentally?? He tried cradling her like an oversized baby, but with his natural gait, almost on all fours but rearing up to fight, that was nearly impossible. Two arms became four, one pair cradling Padme as he prepared to use the other to run, but he couldn?t do that either. Her presence restricted his range of motion too much to let him run while carrying her. Four arms returned to being two as he straightened up awkwardly. Carrying his delicate burden as gently as he could, he slowly made his way out of the gym and into the hall with careful steps. This wasn?t fast enough; what if something was really wrong? ?Help me,? he shouted, ?Somebody help!? Anakin, who had already noted Padme?s distinct absence from the room they shared and gone out to look for her, was the first to arrive. He took his full-on sprint into a brutal shove, snatching Padme from the thoroughly surprised cyborg and sending him stumbling backwards to crash into the far wall with a resounding thump. ?I knew you were up to no good,? he accused, ?What have you done to her?? Getting back up, ?Grievous? replied, ?I did nothing! She just collapsed! Why do you still hate me so?? Anakin said, ?Don?t play innocent! I know your true intent is to betray us all!? ?Grievous? cut in, ?This isn?t about me; it?s about her! Why are we wasting time bickering when we should be getting her to the medbay?? The young Jedi all but slapped himself silly, then silently helped the cyborg carry his very pregnant wife.

?She?ll be all right. She simply fainted. She must?ve overexerted herself. This sort of thing happens if you?re not careful while pregnant.? Anakin quietly slumped out of sheer relief. ?Grievous? replied, ?That?s good to hear.? The two had a truce for the moment. Until Padme was better, their feud was called off. Now they simply waited, nothing much passing between them. ??You are good to her, Skywalker.? Anakin, taken aback by such a statement, said simply, ?Huh?? The cyborg looked almost comical, trying to sit in a chair that was simply too small for him. ?You love her as I loved my wife.? The young Jedi blinked. ?You had a wife? I never thought you had been anything other than what you are right now.? ?Grievous? glared at him for a moment. ?And you are so very different, with that artificial hand of yours?? Anakin got the point and shut up, then simply reiterated his question. ?You had a wife?? The cyborg nodded quietly. ?Her name was Ylenia. She was much like Lady Padme? beautiful, graceful, full of life and pride? We had been married for mere days before I was called away to war.? He touched the seashell necklace he still wore, had sworn never to remove while Sidious lived. ?She gave me this the night before I left? she said it would bring me luck.? Anakin remembered the jappor snippet he himself carved for Padme when he was just a little kid. ?Among my people, legends say vssh-shells are fragments of the war-shields of our ancestors. To take even one into battle is to ask the ancestors to watch over the bearer? and she gave me not one but many.? He sighed. ?And then came the battle where I was made into this. It took me weeks to recover from the transformation, and I found out that the Kaleesh had been all but exterminated and the very world was dead? Sidi

Zaphod, don't let that discourage you. I'd be just as happy to read yours as you are to read mine. Anyway, here's Chapter 13: Past.

A few moments later, he broke the silence. ?What was your world like?? This time it was ?Grievous? who was taken aback. ?What was Kalee like? What was it like living there?? The cyborg answered, ?Are you sure? It?s a long story.? Anakin shrugged and replied, ?Hey, do I look like I?m going anywhere anytime soon?? Taking that as a cue to tell his story, he began. ?My tribe lived in a small village by the sea at the edge of a mountain range, bordered by a forest, beyond which was a prairie. The sea, however, was our major source of food. I went spearfishing when I was young, standing up to my knees in tide pools just waiting for a fish to come close enough for a jab? I was always the impatient one. I studied the fish instead, learned their behavior, and then devised little traps to catch them easier. The older children would actually swim out into the sea and dive for shellfish living on the bottom. Sometimes we?d dare each other to see how many shellfish we could collect in one dive, or try catching fish barehanded. All the children found a wondrous playground when we went in the forest. The giant trees, each almost as large as this ship we now ride in, were worlds in their own right. We would leap from tree to tree or chase small animals living in the treetops. Some of us could even catch them. But better yet was the prairie, green-gold grass as far as one could see? If the wind blew just right, it would whistle through the grass. Ah, I spent many a quiet summer day there with Ylenia, just listening to the grass sing. We grew up together. With each passing day she seemed to grow more and more beautiful. Sometimes I?d just look at her, sigh and think: I?m going to marry her someday. In fact, I can?t remember a time when I believed it would be otherwise. Little did I know that once I joined the adolescent hunters, each successful hunt would further mark me! I treated the prey as I had the fish, learning their ways and devising traps. We only rarely went home emptyhanded in those days. The village had always considered me a special child for my cunning in catching fish and smaller prey, but the success I brought at hunting convinced them that I was nothing less than a gift from the gods. I eventually got my lifelong wish and married Ylenia. I swear I have never seen a happier day in my life. But we had scarcely a few days together before our lives changed? forever. We had all considered the war something far away that could not touch us. No, the war would never come here, not to our little village. But we learned it was not so when the call went out across the land. All who could fight were called upon to do so? But I was asked for by name. Word of my hunting skills had spread beyond my village. The war council wanted to see if I could learn to treat enemies like I did the fish, learning their ways, anticipating their actions and devising more of my little traps. My success rate stayed the same? high. That was when they decided where I belonged. I would be given a place next to the only one better than I was? the great General himself. Now, I know what you?re thinking, and no, I wasn?t the real General. I?ll explain. He and I always hung around together? we were friends. Right in the middle of our last battle, Sidious opened up on us with ship-to-ship lasers. The General didn?t live too long after that? he died while I watched. I was badly injured, dying on the spot. The lasers scared everybody else off, so I was alone when Sidious landed. Long story short, he rebuilt me, made me look like the real General Grievous, made me think I was the real General Grievous, tweaked my brain to make me a homicidal nutcase and turned me loose like that. He also told me it was the Jedi who fired those shots. Obi-Wan told me about the rescue operation the Jedi were involved in on Kalee, but Sidious told me the Jedi were there to massacre my people, not help them. Ylenia was dead. Losing

Okay, okay, here it is. Chapter 14: Arrival.

The trip seemed very short, in that the time passed in a numb blur. Soon ?Grievous? stood staring at the planet from orbit, mind whirling with memories. He could almost see the village of his birth, the faces of his family, and Ylenia, sweet Ylenia? Then something brought him back to the present. Green. The planet is green. Someone off to the side said, ?That?s a lot of regrowth. The space greenhouses must?ve worked better than the Jedi thought they would.? The cyborg just couldn?t believe it. He?d heard the whole world was dead, but here was almost miraculous regrowth. Someone else replied, ?I heard they commissioned the Kaminoans to restore the animal populations, too.? A third piped up, ?Well, that explains it! So we land? where?? ?Grievous? stepped up and pointed to a specific spot on a nearby planetary map. ?There.? He?d pointed out the former location of his childhood home. Lost in thought, he sat down and waited for the ship to land.

?Grievous? paused as the landing ramp lowered, feeling the warm wind on his metal body. They had landed in the prairie whose green-gold grasses haunted his dreams. ?Just like I remember it? How can this be?? Anakin and Padme just went right out together, hand in hand like the young lovers they were. ?Oh, it?s just like the fields of Naboo!? At that moment, ?Grievous? was struck by how much Anakin resembled how he had once been. And with Padme?s similarity to Ylenia as well it was downright haunting. It?s like both she and I were reborn in these two? May the gods be kinder to them than they were to us! Pushing those thoughts away, he said, ?I?ll lead the way to where the village was. Just follow me and stay close.? Obi-Wan replied, ?We have to set up base camp. You go on ahead.? He felt ?Grievous? deserved some time alone, so he could get reacquainted with his home and his old life. The cyborg straightened up for a moment, looking out across the waving grasses to get his bearings. Then he was down on all fours again and moving like a panther, running through the grass. The dirt gave easily as it had always done, letting his talons grip for traction. He could almost hear insects buzzing, and were those birds calling in the distance? He remembered that sometimes the children would be sent to forage among these grasses in the waning days of autumn, when the plants put forth their seeds and fruit. It?s autumn now, he thought. His keen eyes could make out grass-seeds on the stalks swaying in the wind, and small clusters of sweet little berries on the stubby little bushes he occasionally saw. His comrades were bound to be sick of military rations and this would be a way to decrease the amount of supplies they would need, living off the land just as his people had. He would show them these plants later; teach them what he had learned as a child, passing on the knowledge of his ancestors.

I know this is a little short, but I don't want to put too much in until the proper time... [face_devil]

This will be the last update for a little. I have to write the rest. Up until now I was just putting up what I had already written. Still, here's Chapter 15: Shock.

The forest had begun to grow back, but the trees were still far too small for the games he remembered from his childhood. Still, he could swear he almost heard the delighted laughter of children as the wind stirred the branches. The forest floor, however, was as he remembered it, fallen leaves on soft sandy soil. The thick scrub of the understory was the same as well. If he were to look, would he find prey beyond it as he had so many times before the tragedy? He felt tempted to hunt just for old times? sake, but the faint sound of crashing surf in the distance drew him onward. Perhaps he would come back to hunt after he was finished, to bring his comrades more than mere plants, but that would come later. Following the familiar sound of the sea, he emerged from the forest and looked around. Ah, yes. He was right where he?d planned to be? the tide pools and the beach. It was just as he remembered it. Cool spray, light reflecting off the tide pools, sparkling as the crystal-clear water was disturbed by the quick jabs of the children spearfishing there?

Wait, children? He shook his head, and then hit himself a couple times. No, they were still there. Little Kaleesh kids were knee-deep in the tide pools spearfishing just as he remembered. And out in the open water? Were those older kids diving and playing out there? Closer by, a little girl frustratedly worked a little trap that looked almost exactly like one of those he had used when he was young. ?Why won?t this thing work?? She growled in frustration much as he had done many times at her age. ?The hinge is too tight.? The words were spoken before he even noticed he was speaking and she looked up at him with a gasp, bright golden eyes wide as she stared up in awe of this giant silver-hued apparition. ?H-huh?? Not sure what else to say, he explained, ?The hinge. It?s too tight.? She flinched as he crouched next to her, dwarfing her, carefully pulling the trap from the water, making sure not to get wet. ?Look here,? he said, keeping his voice down to a low, gentle rumble. ?See? The hinge is too tight for the trap to swing closed. If I loosen it like this?? The hinge swung easily. ?Try it now,? he said gently, giving it to the child. Her little talons trembled as she took the trap back and put it in the water. ?Try not to move at all,? he whispered softly, holding perfectly still. The child obeyed and the two of them watched the fish swim closer, curiously poking at the trap. ?Wait for it?? The fish entered the trap, one at first, and then two, three, four. ?Now,? he said. The child quickly triggered the trap, and this time it worked as it was supposed to.

Something about this child drew him to her. Was it her quick mind, her use of the traps he himself had once used at her age? Was it her courage, her curiosity? The child looked up at him again, a little afraid but mostly in awe, trying to speak. ?A-are you a spirit?? He wished he could have smiled at her. As it was, he chuckled softly, something he hadn?t done for years. ?What if I am, child?? She stood, looking him over, no longer afraid. ?War stripes,? she said, touching the bonelike mask that was his face. ?Are you one of the ancestors? ?You are, aren?t you?? Her expression changed from awe to excited hope. ?Then? would you know my father?? Now he was curious. ?Your father, child?? She nodded. ?My mother told me about him. Everyone says he died during the Great Huk War, but she never believed it. They never found a body, she said. He vanished right off a battlefield and no one?s seen him since. She always thought he was out there somewhere, among the stars.? Another voice was calling from the distance, another child, a boy this time. ?Yil! Yil!? The child was in awe of him, unable to look away, even to answer her friend. ?You are called Yil?? She nodded abruptly. ?Well? yes!? The other child, now angry, screamed, ?Yl

OMG! Is that Grievous' (or Gavros') daughter? I remember hearing that Shakar is his last name.

Anyway, very good as per usual! But as far as my version of this story, don't count on me writing it. If someone writes a fanfiction similiar or identical to an idea I had, I tend not to write it. That's why I wrote 'Ultimate Revenge of the Sith' as quickly as I could.

I'll have to go back and read it again.....

i can't WAIT to see what you do with this!!!!

Well, I am going to read this fic again. Cuz its so freek'in cool!!!!!!!!!:D
