The way I understand it, the movie takes The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned and combines them into one film.

This is an accident waiting to happen. It's bad enough trying to satisfy an audience when you adapt one book to film, but two? I haven't read the novels, but I'm sure there will be scores of material left out.

This should have gone straight to video.

It almost did, following Aaliyah's death. But they changed their minds.

It's not supposed to be faithful to the novels either.

Looks like pretty much everyone expects the movie will bite fleas and howl at the moon...

"Queen of the Damned" was made because the studio would lose its rights to make a movie adaptation if it didn't hurry up and make one.

That pretty much sums it up right there.

Yes it does. The studios butchered the original story plain and simple. They tried to combine two novels into one essentially and that just plain blows. There is just too much that happens to try and squeeze the stories into one movie.

This movie is an abomonation to the Vampire Chronicles and is truly a sad thing to watch being a real Anne Rice fan.

I refuse to see this movie................

So, should I go see this then? It sounds great! :p

I've never read any of the books, though my wife has, but I loved the film adaptation of 'Interview', that was swingingly cool.

Stuart Townsend said in Entertainment Weekly that the movie was cheesy.

One of the main actors of the movie calling it cheesy isn't a good thing

But he also dropped out of LOTR, how much common sense can the guy have?

If he dropped out of LOTR to make this movie, then obviously he needs to be institutionalized so that his sanity can be checkes. ;)

Enough vampire movies. Oh, and the movie will bomb because of bad acting. I heard some dialogue from some of the trailers, andi t sounds worse than TPM's. [face_plain] Oh, and the fact that Aaliyah can't act doesn't help. Oh, and the fact that it's a recycled idea that's been killed to death.

I had read somewhere that this film was heading straight to video till her death.

Though I will probably go see it.

Merrick was good. I thought it was some of the best stuff she has done in quite awhile. Haven't read the latest one yet.

OK, so the general consesus is that it will suck. I've stated my position ;). But, uhhh....what's it supposed to be about anyways? All I know is what I stated above. :p

I haven't read the books in years, but the King and Queen of the vampires have gotten so powerful that they can withstand sunlight and have lived in a sort of comatose, unmoving state for thousands of years (like in the trailer when they're all white). Lestat's ambitious; he wants that power. So he drinks from Akasha or something. She goes on a rampage and kills all the Vampires in the world that Lestat doesn't love or something. At Lestat's rock concert, he and some other vampires (including the interviewer) realize they have to team up and stop her. Don't remember any details, and I'm not sure what I've said is right. I remember some vague details about a vampire in a tree, some vampires without eyes and a big family tree, and the talamasca, but nothing concrete.

I got this from Anne Rice's homepage

The third book in The Vampire Chronicles, Queen of the Damned, follows three parallel storylines.

The rock star Vampire Lestat prepares for a concert in San Francisco, unaware that hundreds of vampires will be among the fans that night and that they are committed to destroying him for risking exposing them all.

The sleep of a group of men and women, vampires and mortals, around the world is disturbed by a mysterious dream of red-haired twins who suffer an unspeakable tragedy. The dreamers, as if pulled, move toward each other, the nightmare becoming clearer the closer they get. Some die on the way, some live to face they terrifying fate their pilgrimage is building to.

Lestat's journey to a cavern deep beneath a Greek Island on his quest for the origins of the vampire race awakened Akasha, Queen of the Damed and mother of all vampires, from her 6,000 year sleep. Awake and angry, Akasha plans to save mankind from itself by elevating herself and her chosen son/lover to the level of the gods.

As these three threads wind seamlessly together, the origins and culture of vampires are revealed, as is the length and breadth of their effect on the mortal world. The threads are brought together in the twentieth century when the fate of the living and the living dead is rewritten.

I've always thought that Anne Rice under-used Khayman. I'm still waiting for that character to get his own book. :)

Yeah, Khayman could use a little more attention. Could be a interesting story there beyond what we already know about him. ;)

Yeah, I'm betting that something interesting had to happen to Khayman in those 6,000 years. [face_mischief]
