ST Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) in Episode VII

I was surprised by how much I liked Kylo. Driver's performance was great. He was imposing in the mask but when he took it off I found him to be sympathetic. I didn't expect him to be so conflicted. I realize there's an (annoying) trend lately to woobie-ize villains, but I can't help it when the film does it for me: I felt bad for him and I'm hoping for redemption. I want to punch Snoke in the face for screwing up this kid's mind.

 

Totally fascinating character. I can't get him out of my head to the point where I am having a hard time sleeping--didn't see that coming.

 

Outside of going out like a punk in the end (I thought that was just bad writing by JJ and crew) I like Kylo and thought Driver did a great job. He almost has think Joker quality ready to come out like this guy ain't all there. I like how he had zero control unlike Vader.

What about when he went up against, and destroyed, his fellow Padawans? I thought it was silly that he killed all the force sensitives who at least had some training under Luke but had issues against Rey who only hours earlier realized she was force sensitive. Ok so you say she called out to the force to empower her? Why didn't Kylo? He's at least been trained in the force!

 

He reminded of Bane a lot of the time.

I like how he crouched down talking to people in a very unusual way.

 

Indeed his performance is superb,best in all SW movies.

Driver/Kylo were the best character of the movie. At certain points I felt he captured the essence of Anakin without the parts that pissed everyone off in the PT. Superb.

 

Maybe it's just me on this but as soon as Kylo took off the mask, I couldn't take him seriously anymore, kinda like PT Ani.

 

On paper, I could see why you'd say that/agree with you. In execution... well, to me it was the difference in acting and directing making a HUGE difference.

 

it's you. people have said he takes off the mask too much. he took it off twice! once to reveal what he looked like to rey and the audience and once more to confront his father.

 

I know Kylo Ren was a great villain because I hate him. For what he did to Han, but also Lor San Tekka.

I wonder why he hates his family so much? I got the sense that he thinks he deserves praise just because he's a Skywalker. He's a real spoiled jerk.

I can't wait to see Rey school him again.

 

I liked him. The similarities to Anakin once turned were striking. he looked like Han, and he looked like Leia. I could see Shmi in him too. But he reminded me so much of Anakin. Wow.

Anakin turned for love... so what made Kylo turn? Fear? Fear of himself?

 

He thinks he deserves to rule the galaxy. I bet Snoke told him how special he was and selfish Kylo turned in a drop.

 

Ben being manipulated by Snoke to believe its his destiny and that Anakin failed in realizing his destiny? Maybe a twisted version of the prophecy?

The skull of Vader is now all the family he has left...

 

I think, as Han said, Snoke has been majorly manipulating Kylo. Something may have set him off but Snoke ensured he went further into the dark. Kylo said to the vader mask, "show me again the power of the dark side."(paraphrasing) I believe that snoke fooled Kylo by creating a fake force vision or something of his grandfather. Really messing with his head.

 

Yeah, there's definitely more story here that will eventually be revealed.

I think part of it is when you grow up with famous parents, it's really hard to live in their shadow. As we can see in Kylo's fight with Rey, he's not really as powerful as he likes to think.

That was also amazing how he kept hitting his wound to keep fighting. That was a great character moment.

 

Also, mark my words. We will see the ghost of Anakin in either VIII or IX. Kylo Ren=Hamlet. It is going to happen.

 

Kylo Ren was the best character in the movie, IMO, an honor he shares with Rey, and it's going to be very interesting to see where Rian Johnson takes his story. The only issue I had is that they kind of unnecessarily overplayed the idea that Han might be talking some sense into him.

 

So kylo isn't like whiny ass anakin with his Emo attitude and angsty teen temper tantrums?

 

Kylo Ren is definitely my favorite part of the ST so far. I want to know more about him.

 

A conversation with Anakin post-redemption played by Hayden Christensen would be fascinating to watch.

 

Got to say after a nights sleep.

I really like sKYwalker soLO thought it was all very well done.

 

I think he should have gone a little "crazier/unhinged" after killing Han. I understand they couldn't make him seem too crazy before that because the audience has to believe there's a chance he could turn back to the good side for drama sake, but after Han is dead, I think they kinda missed an opportunity to ramp up the crazy.

Like I dunno maybe he could've taken the blood from his wound and smeared it all over his face in the final dual to try and intimidate Rey/Finn.

 

It's obviously a trait of the Skywalker family tree.

Actually Kylo throws multiple tantrums. Boy are they fun to watch.
