Kudos to JJ for seeing all that from Season One of Girls where Adam was naked or at least shirtless and having crazy sex all the time. =D=^:)^ This is a perfect example why people like JJ become famous directors while fans remain fans with their obvious fancasting tendencies. The trick is to see something that regular fans wouldn't and know that it's the right decision no matter how risky it is.

To be fair, casting Adam was Kathy Kennedy's idea, not JJ.

I'm hoping that, depending on the direction they now go with the story, that Leia's potential passing will be the catalyst for Kylo's return to the light.

In my eyes, Kylo's redemption is pretty much guaranteed at this point because of the reasons you pointed out.

It is just as likely, given Kylo's past behavior, that Leia's passing could have the opposite effect.

There are several scenarios I can see playing out as Kylo's Arc:

    1) The Redemption Arc- the most predictable and redundant of the arcs.
In which Kylo sacrifices himself to save Rey and whatever remains of his family and the Republic/the Resistance. If Rey is NOT Kylo's sister or has no children when he dies, I would find this the most personally painful arc. Given Han's death and Carrie's real one. If Han and Leia's only child died without children of his own. Though given the number of women on Starkiller base and on the Finalizer, in addition to Rey, seems unlikely.

    2) The Conquest Arc - In which Kylo defeats Snoke and assumes political and military command of the FO. However neither the FO nor the Republic/Resistance are unable to win a decisive blow against the other. A tenuous peace results. A Galactic "Cold War" in which further wars are fought indirectly through proxy planets.

    3) Total Defeat of FO, Snoke and Kylo Ren. by Restance/Republic forces. Rey, Finn, Poe and Luke. Luke forms new Jedi and Council. Kylo is imprisoned and not killed in deference to Gen. Leia.

    4) The above followed by a Riskalnikov Redemption Arc- in which Kylo's suffering and Rey's faith and goodworks brings about personal redemption in Kylo Ren.

I'm sure there are others I could come up with if it wasn't 3 am

Just saw the Tonight Show episode. He has just a cool voice. I was actually wondering why no one ever asks him about Kylo voice and maybe doing one of the lines. Anyway he still seems a bit awkward but it fits, I guess, with him trying to fly under the radar mostly.

The vest makes sense, why should anybody wear a coat but no vest?

I hope they think outside the box with future Jedi costumes. Chirrut Imwe has, IMO, the best Star Wars outfit ever, and I'd like to see stuff like that for Jedi going forward.

Agreed and that should include female Jedi who seem to be shopping at the GAP:

Saw him in 3 films this year. Kinda seemed like the Domhnall Gleeson of 2016 since he kept popping up in films targeting industry awards buzz. Overall, Adam seems like a dependable team player/supporting actor for movie casting. I don't think he'll be up for the bigger prizes on the 2017 awards circuit, but Paterson and Silence boosting his profile could help his future chances. Dialogue delivery and exhibiting typical lead role charisma don't appear to be his strengths, and he's not as much a chameleon as Oscar Isaac can be. However, his strength seems to be his commitment to the physical aspects of his characters and making sure they move/carry themselves in a distinctively precise way. Even if he were to wear a helmet for most of his Ep8 scenes, I feel like he could genuinely convey Kylo Ren's mindset. Fingers crossed for interactions with Luke, Leia, and characters with whom he can emote something other than intimidation, maybe Poe Dameron since Driver's and Isaac's friendship could translate into a pretty interesting onscreen dynamic.

Hmm, I'm not sure yet if I want Kylo to be redeemed. I enjoy him as a messed up person constantly battling his demons.

Damn that would be awesome. I'm all for unusual alliances and team-ups and this has potential because, as you say, their off screen dynamics would seep on screen.

Neither actor (Domhnall, Oscar, Adam) strikes me as awards hungry, though. I think they just like to challenge themselves and are grateful that they have the opportunity to work with the best in the business.

Everything I've read about Paterson says Driver is great as the lead. But then also note that his performance is understated which likely won't win him any awards because he doesn't Leo "Look at me acting!" DiCaprio it up. The AAMPAS doesn't like quiet performances.

To each its own. IMO, Leo in Wolf of Wall Street and The Departed is GOAT and Titanic is one of the most iconic star-making turns. I do agree that AMPAS loves

which makes it hard for understated performances to make the cut let alone win. However, nobody does a movie with Jim Jarmush expecting awards and boxoffice. They do it cause it's a privilege.

2b) Conquest / Host / No Redemption Arc - In which Kylo becomes highly trained through Snoke's tutelage. However, Snoke isn't looking for an apprentice; he's looking for a host to join with because his ancient dying body is so damaged that he's essentially physically/mentally powerless. Snoke, who has done this time and time again thru eternity whenever his body becomes unusable, seeks out a 'chosen' force-user host. As a descendent of the Chosen One, Kylo is a perfect candidate. He promises Kylo absolute power in this deal. Power that he can't even yet imagine. With both parents now dead, Kylo realizes that his connection to the light side is finally terminated. He desperately wants to reclaim is his long lost heritage and is prepared to truly become more powerful than Vader. To lord over the GFFA and be one with the dark side. Kylo's journey isn't about redemption. It's about finally destroying the sins of the past, and the heritage of the dark side with Rey - figuratively a ray of light - to extinguish the the dark times.

They said no such thing. Plus, what's darker than killing your dad?

They said it was the evolution of a villain. Which means moving forward in my mind. I think he's going to get a lot worse before he gets better.

Regardless, didn't carrie say something to that effect? (That Kylo was brutal or even darker in this film) Or am I completely making that up?

But now with the death of Carrie, I feel the story is going to change a lot when it comes to Kylo.

But that's more than likely having to do with IX not VIII

Whatever the main story for Kylo is, and I'm sure it's "You cannot deny the truth that is your family", will remain the same because it's a major thing. There may be cosmetic changes to accommodate his scenes with Leia or lackthereof, but the endgame will remain the same.

Plus, considering that novelization hinted on that he cares for his mother,

I'm sure there's an emotional scene in VIII already.

Moreover, Leia's fate (assuming she was to live through VIII and IX) doesn't have to change. They can just reduce number of scenes in IX. I do think that they'll have to use CGI for few like in case of Paul Walker (Furious 7) and PSH (Mockingjay Pt 2).

Kylo did nothing to prevent a possible Leia's death in TFA. It's like in the bridge scene, he chose to kill Han even having feelings for his father. Meanwhile we have the example of Finn, who chose to do the right thing even if his chances of dying in the process were high
