ST Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) in the ST

Eh I doubt that image of Kylo's helmet will be in the movie. They just included that in the trailer because it looks cool and symbolizes what Kylo is going through.

 

Hmmm... why? I think it's likely... or at least the event is likely. I had assumed that Snoke destroyed it while dressing down Kylo for getting beaten by Rey. But maybe Snoke dresses him down, gives him his orders and maybe doesn't appreciate that Kylo killed Han for him. Perhaps he destroys it in frustration with the Force in the list after meeting with Snoke.

 

I've long thought Kylo stomps his own helmet and goes rogue. But as this may be in Snoke's throne room, I'm thinking Snoke tried to crush him like Han had predicted, or at least takes a solid one to the face.

It will be interesting to see where this falls in the timeline. I'm inclined to think it will be third act and lines up with the rumor that Snoke kicks him to the curb. That said, a first act defection could be intriguing.

There is also a brief shot of a prop table with several Kylo masks. There is one that looks like the helmet took a pipe to the face that is severely dented in the facial region but not completely smashed.

If there are several incarnations of this mask, I suspect we're going to see what happened in the film.

 

I had the same thought, but maybe he turned himself in willingly?

I know that your stance is that TLJ is too soon for him to switch sides, but personally I think it's possible, especially if something happens to his mother and Snoke/the FO is responsible.

Kylo might be desperate to save someone he cares about, to the point of surrendering to the Resistance and allowing himself to be cuffed.

 

Not unless he isn't trying to resist being taken into custody. Think Superman in Man of Steel. He let the cuff him as a gesture of trust.

 

Maybe Snoke riffs on Han's line while training Kylo - take that mask off. You don't need to hide the real you any longer. Be proud of what and who you are. He trains Kylo, setting his Praetorians on him, pushing Kylo's buttons to get the best/ worst out of Kylo - all those (imo, needlessly) worried that Kylo can't be a credible threat after TFA have their concerns assuaged as we see Kylo taking down the Praetorians - then Kylo leaves the mask behind and goes to hunt Rey and Luke down having left the mask behind.

 

People on Tumblr have been remarkably eagle-eyed and noticed that it seems that Adam and Carrie were filming a scene together (it's the part in the BTS reel where Rian calls "beautiful!"):

The circle to the left shows a bit of an eye and a bit of hair. While it's only a tiny glimpse, the features certainly seem to be a good match for Carrie. (It's clearer in the gif at the link.)

If the observation is correct and Adam and Carrie did film together, that means mother and son reunite in The Last Jedi. I can't say how happy that makes me - I'd given up hope on getting a reunion between Kylo and Leia in TLJ, but it now really seems like it's happening. I guess the main question is what's the context - did Kylo go to the Resistance voluntarily, or was he captured? The background says Resistance to me more than First Order, so I have the impression that Kylo is with them (rather than Leia being with the First Order).

 

Just the way that shot of the broken helmet was included in the trailer was so deliberate and stylized it just didn't feel like something that would be in the movie. Same goes for the shot in the trailer of the books in the tree from the teaser. I wouldn't be surprised if that specific shot isn't used either.

I'm not ruling anything out. It just won't be a big shocker to me if we don't see those shots pop up. They remind me in a way of that amazing shot of Jyn standing in front of the lights from the Rogue One trailer. It was a great shot but it never made it into the movie nor was it meant to. It was just a "hey this looks cool" shot throw in the trailer.

 

So Kylo meets with Snoke early on in TLJ, then after leaving Snoke's thrown room, Kylo has some kind of fit in the elevator, smashes his own helmet (and a lot of glass), so when he arrives on Ach-To he doesn't wear a mask, and may not wear a mask for the rest of the movie? I would welcome that. He's seen fighting in the teaser trailer without a mask.

 

The Gif is definitely more convincing that this is Carrie. The undyed grey hair is a dead giveaway, and that is her eye with the heavy eyeliner that Leia wears. I'm very hopeful that we will get a reunion in this movie. And it definitely lines up with Adam saying that the last time he saw her was on the set of the film.

So hooray for short and very tall actors in the same photo frame.

I don't think they intended to let this cat out of the bag. But if that is Carrie, this BTS clip inadvertently revealed the biggest spoiler of them all.

 

If nothing else this confirms that Leia is his mother.

 

I bet Snoke says something to push Kylo off the ledge. Perhaps the Supreme leader dishonorably discharges the master of the Knights of Ren for his failure at Starkiller Base (much the enjoyment of General Hux), and has named the scavenger girl as his next personal project. Kylo must fight his way around Praetorian Guards & Executioner troops to escape. He goes rogue and vows to destroy the last Jedi as well as the Knights of Ren. The smashing of the helmet symbolizes his abandonment of Lord Vader's legacy and the The First Order...

But this is all part of Snoke's plan: Kylo's training. He just needed one more push to complete his journey to the dark side.

Greatness. I like it. Snoke turns on Kylo as a test. That could be awesome. But my hope would be that this tactic backfires on Snoke in a big way by the end of TLJ.

That makes me think even more so that there's going to be a MF vs Kylo dog fight somewhere.

(I wanted to add to this so I moved it over from the Leia thread since it was getting off topic)

I don't think there's any reason to assume Kylo is obviously going to lose if/when he faces off with Rey at a mid point in the movie on Ahch-to. I also think it ends in a draw or he even somehow comes off with the upper hand, and Rey makes a narrow escape. So Kylo wouldn't necessarily be crawling back to be reprimanded a second time. Snoke might even summon Kylo back, perhaps denying him the chance to continue pursuing Rey, because he has new orders for him. Or something else happens with Leia elsewhere that makes Kylo go back, cutting short his business on Ahch-to.

 

Cool design! Reminds me a little of the Sith infiltrator as well as the clear tie interceptor and Vader's tie.

 

If there's a Poe vs. Kylo dogfight, my fear would be that Poe wouldn't survive it...

 

I think Poe deserves to dish out some payback, frankly

 

I predict that he does come face to face with his mother in TLJ, and he crushes his mask in the elevator after Snoke tells him something.

I also think that even if Kylo Ren doesn't turn on Snoke during this movie, the seeds will be planted. It will be interesting to see if the mysterious Knights of Ren are truly his followers vice pawns of Snoke, as well.

 

Kylo seemed more like he was on the periphery of the First Order. I do not think he cares about it or its goals the way Hux and Phasma do. I could see him going rogue if he has a falling out with Snoke, especially if their goals begin to differ or Kylo begins to resent Snoke.

It would be very interesting to see Kylo go to the Resistance/ Leia or Luke and Rey and have them and us be uncertain as to what his motives are, and if he can be trusted. Much more interesting than having him be a constant straightforward antagonist going after them repeatedly.

I am glad to hear we get to see Kylo pilot in Ep. 8. I was expecting him to be a good pilot.

 

my money is on poe if they have a dogfight. hopefully kylo presents a chalenge though.

 

I would think Kylo would win in a dog fight as he has the Force, Poe does not.
