Ahsoka Ahsoka Episode 1.05 - Discussion Thread (Spoilers Allowed)

I never would've known how much this was weighing on Ahsoka if I hadn't read the comments on this site. Aside from a comment or two about Anakin in some of the previous episodes I never really thought that Ahsoka was emotionally wrecked by Anakin's fall or really anything that happened to her in the past. As I mentioned in an earlier post, in the first episode of Kenobi it's clear that we're looking at a broken man and because of how TV shows go it was also clear that Kenobi was going to be a show about Obi-Wan getting his mojo back. It seems like we were all supposed to think the same thing about Ahsoka on her show but I just never saw that. I'm very puzzled to see so many comments about how amazing her transformation was on this episode. I noticed her costume change but I didn't feel like her personality was massively different from before. If I was supposed to think she was depressed before you could've fooled me. Now I'm wondering if I'm supposed to think that Mace Windu was depressed in the PT because that's basically how Ahsoka comes across to me! Ahoska's transformation was like watching a caterpiller transform into another caterpiller.

 

I was literally a different person last time I felt the need to speak on the forum.

All I have to say is 10/10 episode however as someone who is a Shin Hati Stan it's a 0/10 - me and my sis jokingly call it the Shin Hati show even

 

So hopefully a less heated topic:
One weird memory that came to my mind while watching this episode was reading the Rebel Files.
Granted that source has already been contradicted to death, but one comment that stands out was when someone wrote on Hera something to the effect "If only they knew where she'd end up!" Presuming the court martial goes through (Ahsoka can't really testify if she's in another galaxy), that comment could prove rather prescient.

Yes, agreed. Thank you for the answer. My question was more did an uninitiated audience know it was clones with Mandos fighting on the side. The clones fighting against Mandos I think was clearly conveyed.

I need to see it again.

 

Oh also something I noticed while at the theater for the screening.

I would say the parity among men and women was almost equal. Maybe 55% men 45 female. It is only a collection of like 300 people. But I found it interesting regardless probably lines up more or less with viewing as well.

 

I was actually wondering how many people in the forum had seen the episode at the cinema. Was there avid reactions at the big scenes?

the first time Anakin appeared there was cheering

when Anakin ignited his lightsaber there were some gasps

there was cheering for young Ahsoka

Cheering for Rex appearing

cheering for Rex talking

cheering when Hera mentioned Kanan

some laughs when Jacen hid behind chopper

some laughs at Ahsoka’s I have no idea where we are going.

the overall experience was great. Lucasfilm treated us well. There was a Disney rep there as well. Tickets were free and we also got a free large drink and free popcorn.

the best part other than waiting in line for 2 hours and 30 minutes was getting that sick poster they posted like a week ago.

 

There's a load of evidence that suggested Ahsoka was starting down the path to the Dark Side.
"Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."
She has fear of training Grogu because of previous experience with attachment.
She feared training Sabine so much that she quit on Sabine.
She used the Mind Probe on Morgan to get the coordinates of the map, instilling fear into the Nightsister.
Baylan says that her legacy is death and destruction. Ahsoka has fear that he is correct and that's all she'll ever be.
She has fear that Sabine has been killed, which then leads to the anger where she throws Shin into the stone wall.
In the WBW, she expresses fear to Anakin that she'll become what he became.
Finally, her eyes go red with anger and hate as she has the lightsaber to Anakin's throat. This parallels Luke's decision of whether or not to strike down his father.
If she strikes Anakin down, she'll be consumed by the Dark Side. Instead, like Luke, she throws the lightsaber away.

 

That's a great close reading of the story so far, and it's nice of you to do it for those not playing close attention. But keep in mind that many are intentionally not paying attention, or even if they are, they're just looking for things to hate on.

 

Filoni isn't a hack. He's clearly talented but he's like Ryan Murphy or Joss Whedon. His best work comes from situations where he doesn't have final say on story direction. Star Wars is supposed to be fast-paced and lively. It's got to feel like a lived in world, not a solemn lesson from a history book. I feel like he's just too caught up in how big it all is. Not every story in the setting has to contain world shaking gravitas. Have more fun with it!

 

This episode was probably the funniest episode of the show.

 

And what about those of us who are old? And bald? And let's not forget the pilots, those of us who are pilots are sick 'n' tired of pilot-shaming! We've had enough, and we're not gonna take it anymore!

 

Loved it. Excellent episode. The first time I ever gave a SW TV episode a 10/10.

 

The deliberate erasure of the rebel alliance's proud, husky pilots is shameful. Can't a man enjoy both a good meal and shooting down a TIE fighter? Porkins would be rolling in his grave if his body hadn't presumably been disintegrated when the first Death Star exploded.

 

I give the forum a solid 1/10 not enough talk about how every scene is the death of Star Wars

Eh, to me she's been portrayed as even keeled and cool as a cucumber. Walter White from Breaking Bad is how you show somebody turning to the dark side.

 

Respectfully and briefly, no. TLJ was one of the best theater experiences I've had (though it did not include an orgasm).

 

Did you like Andor? It certainly wasn't fast-paced and lively.
