Full Series Ahsoka in Rebels

?

What should Ahsoka be like if she turns up in Rebels?

  1. Like she was before the S3 timeskip. Snippy, impulsive, petulant, a little over-agressive

  2. Like she was post-timeskip: Mature for her age, insightful, reserved, able to mentor others

  3. Radically grimdarkened, fatalistic, sarcastic, determinist, but still essentially a good guy.

For the record I think Rebels should have been with Ahsoka as the main character. Leaving aside everything else, the fact that despite being only a side character she's clearly the most interesting character anyway (besides Rex) it's a bit of mystery why she isn't training Ezra or Kanan.

I would have started it after her leaving the Temple just after order 66 Maybe even starting off with Vader. That she would be horrified at what happened to him (being burnt) and that the Jedi tried a coup. Then realise Anakin was with the Darkside and now evil (obviously he wouldn't tell her) leave to help Bail etc. You then have a 20 year gap to play with with Ahsoka both fighting the Jedi (Kanan becomes her apprentice because she spares him) the Empire and the founding of the Rebellion to play with.

It would also play with some historical parallels. There is a famous female German diarist who started out a fervent Nazi and thinks Hitler is great (whose Husband is in the Wermacht) then over the course of time is horrified at what happens to Jews that she knows and becomes anti-Nazi and opponent of the regime.

I'm getting a mounting feeling that Ahsoka is actually going to bite the big one by the end of this season.

I mean I like the character but I'm not emotionally bound to her per se. Going by some of the responses in this thread though... if it happens it's going to be the freakin' Red Wedding to some folks.

Like I said, it will be a big deal; regardless of how you feel about her.

I have the opposite feeling, I somehow doubt that she dies by the end of this season. I have more and more the suspicion that it will be Rex who bites it.

Could be both. Rex could go in an earlier episode.

Hey, can you imagine the flame wars if Disney has Ahsoka Tano survive until after the Battle of Yavin and retcons the OT so that she trains Luke in between ANH and ESB? Internet would melt!

I feel conficted between thinking "They wouldn't dare!" and thinking "There is nothing The House of the Mouse won't dare to do!"

Yeah I think it's fairly safe to assume Ahsoka is going to get a Gandalf/Obi wan style death scene.

Yes, I have said that Ahsoka would die before the end of Rebels myself:

However, I can't but think that, if somebody in the world would dare to retcon the OT in order to milk more money from the TV series, it is The Mouse.

To be fair it should be said Lucas was retconning the OT long before Disney came on the scene. I don't just mean the Special Editions either. The PT really retcons things so much, Obi wan is basically a huge liar

That sounds like a great idea and I personally am only watching rebels for her and Rex. It could also show something like the decommission of the clones, The Great Jedi Purge, and the establishment of the empire. The only thing is, is that a show like that will take a very long time to finish. The historical parallels would be also cool but very few people would understand them. What is the name of the diarist? I love reading about partisans from WWII.

I'm really annoyed because I can't remember the name of the diarist but she is quoted by Ian Kerhsaw in his first volume on Hitler Hubris. I was interested too and then googled her name and she is famous but it looks like her diary was only in German and there is no English translation. Don't look for any Partisan exploits or anything like that. Its just an ordinary German woman of the time periods diary

I think we're going well off in a tangent here. If you want a Star Wars related reference, you could either go with Sinjir as an ex-Imperial loyalty officer in the novel "Aftermath", or of course

    Finn from TFA.

I came to the same conclusion with the end of "The Future of the Force" as well, but with a difference. What if she takes a realization that that is her purpose going forward with her story, she find it her duty to protect, like the episode name seggests, The Future of The Force.
Ahsoka does not need to die to ruin the OT, she just needs to be out of the Front seat.

David Filoni has said he wants to end her Story to where everyone is satisfied. What if he pulls off a Dark Knight (Batman) similarity. If you go back and watch the ending scene of The Dark Knight, just think of it like this:
Batman is Ahsoka, Gordon is Bail Organa or perhaps Princess Leia, Two-Face is maybe Kennen/Ezra perhaps? One of them turns to the dark side, The Joker is Vader, and Gothem is the Rebel Alliance.

It almost makes perfect sense. This type of story ending would fill all rolls people are really fearing with Ahsokas fate, Vader becomes refocused on the Rebels going into "A New Hope" rather than on Ahsoka. The Rebels get the Martyr they need to become a threat against the Empire like they are in the OT. Ahsoka then runs and hide because "She is the Hero the Rebels deserves, but not the one it needs right now". Then Luke comes in, because he is the Hero they need.
She effectively becomes a "Dark Night" (in a good way).

Unless she is the unseen wing-man of Red Leader (the one that doesn't talk or have his face shown, before the other wingman says "They're right behind me") and is unceremoniously shot down by Vader during the trench run. :p

I like your Batman comparison and agree with you that Ahsoka doesn’t necessarily need to die before the OT. However, there is still the problem that Ahsoka will die. Let’s face it, she isn’t Darth Plagueis. IMO it would be better for Ahsoka’s character to go out in a self-sacrificing blaze of glory like Obi-wan than to die of old age in bed like Yoda. It’s not that I want Ahsoka to die (I don‘t!), I just want her end to be epic awesome. Maybe in her own Anthology film? (I can dream…)

She dies of a broken heart, therefore losing the will to live after she finds out for sure that Vader is Anakin.

I agree that if/when she dies, she needs to go in a blaze of glory. My example was just trying to make so everyone, if you hate or love her, can have a satisfying conclusion to the story of Anakin and Ahsoka. But let's face it, she's a popular character. She has toys! She sells and she gives a good character towards girls (don't forget who owns Star Wars now, sadly). Lucasfilm and Disney wants to expand the stories of Star Wars. Creating new characters is a very hard thing to do, especially when there are soooo many stories that we want to hear with already established characters, including Ahsoka after she left the Jedi. I hate to give reasons outside of lore to why a character would die or not, but I don't see a popular character DIE on a show that's on Disney XD. I don't see it happening in a marketing perspective. Can you imagine the parents after their little kids (girls) that started watching Star Wars because of Ahsoka, running to their parents crying because they just saw their favorite character take a lightsaber to the back.

Whatever the outcome is, if she dies, make it impactful. If she has to live because they need established characters, then make it impactful.
The Dark Knight reference takes her out of the light of the main series and puts her into a just as impactful setting moving forward. Herself and Luke's Journey's are not the same. It's a perfect ending if they never want to visit her again. Or a perfect setting for a new TV show years down the road whenever they decide to have a story that's set during episodes IV-VI, and you know they will!
