Minister Tua makes more sense in that role. Kallus was apparently perfectly willing to order the extermination of Zeb's entire species and seemingly has no real regrets about it. Tua on the other hand, hasn't really done anything particularly "evil" yet, and she seems to be not all that fond of violence. When Aresko and Grint were killed, her face was one of genuine horror, whereas Kallus's seemed to be more surprise than anything else.

They should introduce Madine as an Imperial in season 2 and then make him defect from the Empire.

Oh, hey, look at this. I got it backwards. Maybe Kallus will be the long-running villain? He certainly needs more development, and I wish they'd dwell on what he did on Lasan, and build up a rivalry between him and Zeb.

I think Kallus will be killed off, by Vader, in the next season.

What's the point of going through so many villains? The more of their own the Empire has to kill, the weaker it looks. Kallus should step up his game, imo, rather than being the next sacrificial lamb.

Agent Kallus is a whole bunch of nothing.

And the mystical stormtroopers who genocided an entire planet don't seem to be under Lothal's wing. Nor Kallus's.

    Nor Tarkin's.

    Nor Vader's.

Well, he doesn't have to remain as such. If they introduce garbage villains and go through them quickly (example: Inquisitor), the show won't become any better. Better to develop your villains.

Darla went from being "villain's henchwoman" in Season 1 of Buffy, to being a long-running character, especially in Angel, who's past actions were very important.

Maybe Kallus will be like that - superficially a henchman, but actually with a more important role to play?

I must say, after watching season 1, Kallus does not strike me as incompetent at all. True the crew escaped him, but it usually was not his plan's fault. And he bested Zeb, who seems a lot stronger than a human, in single combat on Zeb's terms. I doubt any of the Rebel's crew would survive a 1:1 fight with him unless they are force users.
(Of course, I have to admit, Zeb suffered a bit from the Worf-effect...).

I am afraid, he will be overshadowed by Tarkin and Vader in the coming episodes, but what he represents is important: the ISB. Until they introduce a new character to replace him, he will keep his post. Like Iron Lord, I hope his role slowly develops into something more important. After all, he is a genocidaire and an ISB agent. He needs to be fleshed out more. The very fact that he ordered a genocide is puzzling: he seems rather low ranking for that, being posted on a backwater planet with no staff.

It'd be interesting if they did something similar to what they did on Babylon 5, and have one episode just about Kallus. The real advantage of this is that it could offer a real window into his world and into how the ISB functions.

Kallus is my favourite character, and I’m dreading the day he gets bumped off.

IMO, he's one of the most interesting characters; quietly confident, intelligent, daring and a capable professional. Add to that he has a calculating, manipulative streak to either throw people off balance or make them compliant/co-operative so he can manage them; this is more obvious in the books, but you see traces of his strategist personality in the cartoon. Some examples from either format? When Kallus is casually provocative when asking the Lawbringer’s Captain Zataire about his rebellious son’s rejection of the Empire. Seeing an opportunity to take down one of the rebels, Kallus intentionally draws Zeb out of hiding and after being on the receiving end of Zeb’s incredible strength and knowing he can’t hold out for long, he deliberately enrages Zeb to the point of adversely affecting his performance and defeating him. Also, his firm but still polite reassurance to Tua after she ranted about the rebels ruining Empire Day and the stern look he gives her afterwards (LOL). His voice and aesthetic appearance are awesome, too. :3

It would be handy to know the year when Lasan was devastated by the Empire; I want to know how young Zeb was and where he was when his society was destroyed, where the rest of his people have fled to, if they try to keep their culture/language alive, what jobs they would be drawn to, etc. But given the focus of Rebels, I suppose that’s a tall order and probably out of the question...

From the comment about Kallus being fairly low in the Empire’s hierarchy and having no staff assigned to him, it will be interesting to see if or how Disney will go forward with his character development and past.

It is odd that Kallus (a senior ISB agent, but way down in the Empire’s command structure) would have the authority to authorise the use of a particularly destructive weapon on an entire planet/race; on a mob or settlement, yes, to send a message asserting the Empire’s might and brutally control a situation. But on presumably thousands of people and a planet with potential untapped resources? Due to the possible repercussions, I thought that kind of decision would rest with someone much higher up in the Imperial chain of command.

So, leading on from the above; a controversial question - did Kallus actually play the leading part he says he did in the destruction of Lasan?

There are a number of other possible scenarios and whatever the case, Kallus is far from a good guy and will still come out smelling of something other than roses. But, if Disney threw in a plot-twist about his claimed degree of responsibility with regards to the destruction of Lasan, it would add a rather interesting and complicated relationship dynamic in a future confrontation between him and Zeb, or even if he was to desert from the Empire and also interact or side with the rebels in the future.

On the other hand, of course it's possible that even with his micro-expressions hinting at something other than self-concern (particularly since Tarkin entered the scene), Kallus was gloatingly telling the truth, is a Class-A d*** and is also a war criminal guilty of genocide.

It would be rather disappointing and lazy writing if there was no further exploration into his and Zeb’s linked past and Kallus is killed off before he has a chance to develop. Fingers crossed he’ll have a long-running and deep development arc.

Indeed there is a lot of potential in this character. And with 22 episodes at least one can be devoted to him. I also think his place in the hierarchy will be better explained when the rebels visit other planets than Lothal. Will Kallus be chasing them? Will he be given more resources? (His statement in Call to Action seems to imply he only had local assets at his disposal).

Also, I wish he gets a new 3D-model. It is silly watching him doing paperworks in armour. ...which is a chance to explain why is uniform is so radically different to what is usually identified as ISB-uniform. And no, battle dress does not explain it, since battle dress only means added body armour and helmet (like seen on Tarkin and Veers), not a totally different uniform.

Yeah it's curious. I keep hearing him described as being an "idiot" or "incompetent," but I'm not really seeing that. He seems fairly intelligent/capable to me, and he's come close to catching the Ghost Crew on numerous occasions. It's usually either clever thinking or dumb luck that allows them to escape. Plus he straight-up defeated Zeb in a personal duel, and Zeb's species seems to be stronger than most humans are.

Agreed and I think he will be a more potent force in Season 2. Since the Ghost and her crew are no longer the only Rebels we see.... well, there are now plenty of other people to serve as blaster fodder for Kallus and his troops.

Season 2, Zeb gets his ultimate revenge. How, by shaving off Kallus's magnificent facial hair.

The mere sight of them improves stormtrooper accuracy by 15% and decreases enemy morale by one-third.

    ......

God, I hope they make that a rule in the next RPG source-book.
