You want bigger roles for various alien Jedi in the ST?

The Force connects to all living creatures, meaning any living thing may become Force sensitive. However, most Jedi on screen in the Star Wars films have been human. With the exception of Yoda, there hasn't been any other single alien Jedi serving as a main or supporting character. While the OT featured Yoda, it had only had Yoda and it wasnt Yoda in his prime. And while the PT featured lots of alien Jedi in their prime, they were mostly limited to background characters in non-speaking roles.

Do you think the ST will break this trend and have new alien Jedi who are young and strong in main or supporting roles with more dialogue? And, do you think its a good idea?

I'm sure we'll get something like Chewbacca and Jabba the Hutt, but wouldn't it be way cooler if those were Jedi and not just "normal"?

I would want this. Whether or not there will some sort of Jedi Order in the ST is yet to be determined, though.

yes very few main characters have been aliens. But there are tons of alien jedi in the jedi council during the clone wars, as well as in the eu. I think Ashoka is a good example as well. If your talking strictly main characters, and only in films, you do have a point.

Well, there's Maz Kanata probably. And I could see more Jedi entering the picture as the trilogy progresses. Maybe we'll get an alien Jedi "Lando" equivalent in the next one.

They could introduce some cool alien bounty hunters ala kind of a cad bane. The so called Jedi Hunters if they exist could also be aliens.

Well, the rumours about Snoke indicate that he will be an alien, and probably a main character. We have Maz and Chewie also.

Chewie's not enough... I wanna see an alien in a lead role, one of the "Big Three" of a given movie--whether Jedi or not. There are so many fun species in the GFFA. Even if they're "odd-colored humans maybe with funny hats or hair" would be good, too (like Hera, Ahsoka, Thrawn). I'd much rather see a diverse galaxy where 'baseline human' isn't the default setting for the characters. Bring on the Duros, the Chiss, the Chagrians, the Twi'leks, the Togruta, the Mon Cala, the Sullustans, the Trandoshans, the Rodians, the Klaatus, the Baradas, the Niktos!

If this trilogy is about rebuilding The Jedi, then I certainly believe we need Jedi of varying species, it's insulting to have this vast universe and only use humans. I'm still bummed VII doesn't have a new alien as a main protagonist. What I really want is a Wookiee Jedi. I want to see the Kel Dor again. The Chiss in Canon, an Ithorian with a supporting role.

TESB is my favorite SW film and there aren't many aliens, actually must be the SW movie with less number of aliens of all them. Chewie and Yoda as supporting roles. Bounty Hunters, Ice Wampa and Ton-tons does not count!

I'm not even sure, now. What with all the alien Jedi we got with the Prequels, which were all pretty boring, I'm not sold on seeing any more of them. Especially if they're based on alien races that we've seen too much of, such as...

Twi-Leks, Rodians, Ithorians, Niktos, blah, blah, blah, blah blahhhhh.

I could get behind this. But make them new species. You can still have other aliens from the previous trilogies as background characters.

I would love to see more alien species as main characters and bonus points if they're Jedi/Sith/Force Users. Few alien species in TFA thus far has been one of my main concerns to date.

PS: Do we even know for certain if Kylo Ren is human or not? I might've missed any confirmation as to his species.

Different alien races are one of the things I love about Sci-Fi. So I would definitely welcome more aliens as main characters as well as in supporting roles.

They were boring because they didn't do anything. Only Mace, Yoda, and Ki-Adi ever spoke, among the Council (aside from late-joiners Obi-Wan & Anakin). The ones in the Geonosis arena mostly just struck a pose and were never seen again in the battle until they were rounded up--most of the action in the background seemed to be humans in boring earth-toned robes flailing at empty space with sabers & random "Force" gestures. The human Jedi, outside of the major characters, were all far, far more boring than anyone in makeup or a mask.

Give some aliens (Jedi or not) something to do... have some characters who contribute, but also many that are just set-dressing. There are plenty of other sci-fi franchises out there with humans galore taking the spotlight in part or in whole.

Sure. I wouldn't mind that crimson alien at Maz' place being force sensitive, in addition to Maz herself.

It's a fine line. 'Alien' characters who are very unfamiliar in appearance and manner can struggle to connect with the audience, so having one as a major character is pretty high risk. Yoda was modelled on a composite of several humans and Chewie was reminiscent of a big, loveable dog, so they were very familiar on many levels.

It's not that difficult, particularly if said major character is one of the more humanoid species (Twi'lek, Togruta, Mirialan, Nikto, Weequay, and many others). Even the more 'alien' ones like Mon Cala, Quarren, etc could work if the face is given enough expression and/or the actor behind the performance can emote well thru physicality as well. Even back in '83, with his limited expressions, Ackbar still conveyed a great deal when the Executor was destroyed...as his bridge crew cheered, he slumped back in his command chair, exhaustion & relief very evident.

Wall-E's a weird little Short Circuit-ish robot...audiences had no problem connecting with him, or any number of other animated, inhuman characters. Similar principles applied to mo-capped (or straight-up animated) CG aliens, or actual actors in makeup/prosthetics, will make 'em believable enough, along with their interactions with others.

Agreed. But working as a major character is a different challenge in my opinion. Ackbar was great in the role that he had, but do you really think he would've worked with ten times the screen time? Would Han Solo have worked as well in his original incarnation as a green alien, or whatever it was?
