Nail the shutters and alert the guards, because Garett is at it again with a new installment in the Thief series by Eidos. Eidos' site has a little bit of info on the game, which will seemingly be put out on the pc and Xbox. The Official site also has some screenshots as well as more information.
Having never gotten to actually play a whole Thief game through and through, i have played the demos for the games, and they were interesting enough, so ill be seeing how this one turns out and what new features they will have in it to see if i get this one.
It has a may 2004 release date, so its coming out fairly soon. Hopefully they have changed its combat system a bit around from the three basic attacks it had before...

Looks like it's running on a similar setup to Deus Ex IW. (as expected) Should be good. In relation to the sword fighting, it will be rather intersting to see what one can accomplish with the new Unreal engine as opposed to the older Quake 3 engine. As far as I know, no first person shooter runs of an engine that allows rewarding melee weapons. Most rely on random swinging or stabbing and little skill.

Yeah, itd be awesome if they could incorporate some Jedi Knight style fighting. That would be cool. Or at least some leaps and different types of attacks besides vertical/horizontal/stab or something like that. Something more elaborate, is all i ask.

I enjoyed playing the Thief games a lot

The first 2 games had a very original story, and the gameplay was awesome.

I liked how cultures with Hammerites, Mechanists and Pagans were created, and the clips between levels are cool.

I look forward to the 3rd game, and hope the storyline will continue to improve.

After playing the huge turd that was Deus Ex 2, I'm beginning to doubt that Thief 3 will be as good as the 2 previous games.

Especially after one of the lead members of the development team ( I forget his name ) just left the project, apparently because he didn't like the way the game was coming along. Disturbingly, this guy was a former employee of Looking Glass, which made the first two Thief games.

I'm hoping for a great game, with the same feel and gameplay of Thief 1 & 2, not a watered down version for a console.

Deus Ex 2 was exactly that. Watered down for the stupid X-Box. Removal of many menus and unification of certain things to simplify it. Very disappointing.

probably after the game is released. Lots of games just try to get the thing released then worry about letting people test it out with a special level not seen in the actual game.

I hope they link the story to 1 and 2. The 1st game flowed nicely into the 2nd one, and Victoria's character and fate was greatly improved.

It looks like fun. So how are the previous Thief games?

I enjoyed playing them a lot. The 1st has a slightly better storyline the the 2nd one, but the 2nd has improved gameplay, and you get to sneak away from security cameras (scanning metallic masks - cause it's a medieval but high-tech environment)

What's very original about it is that you don't go killing everyone. The enemies are much better warriors then you, and you won't last long if many attack you and you get in a sword fight. You're a Thief and have to sneak past them to survive...though you still manage to bring a few down with arrows and clubs.

You hear them threatening you, and searching for you as you creep in.

It's got great atmosphere, hearing guards talking, ghosts passing, ancients sects and a terrific storyline.

I rented this last week and I'm hooked. The story is good, the graphics top notch and I love the fact that you have to use stealth rather than brute force to get past your enemies.

I havent gotten this game yet, but from what im hearing, this would be a great buy. Its one of a kind, I think, since what you said, Katya, you use your stealth abilities instead of brute forces to win levels, something that basically no other game lets you do as well. Some games have the thief path you can take, but none offer it as well as these games. Can you still dissapear once you're in shadows?

The only time I've gotten caught when pressed up against a wall is when I'm running from a guard that spotted me and I didn't pick a good hiding spot. Other than that, once you're in the shadows and pressed against a wall they can't see you.

I want this game, it looks good, but i dont have any money lol and no place to rent games around me. hopefully they release a demo for it like they did with other games sometime.
