Good for Nash, taking herself on a vacation. One of the things that most frustrates me with many fictional characters is that they ALL seem to be workaholics--the job is everything. Frankly, that's not terribly interesting, and neither are most real-life workaholics I've ever met. Much better is the character who, like a real person, recognizes that there is so much more to life. And hey, it indicates that Nash is not as unstable as others may fear. :)

Pandora26...I see you have Mr. Saxon for your icon. :p Have you seen the trailers for the upcoming Christmas special?

It looks as though Nash just needed to have a holiday, to get out into the wild and just be herself. She might not be pleased to be back to regular life (and I can understand that), but Pashu noticed she was more relaxed, and she tends to be quite perceptive about that sort of thing.

Oh, and of course the Trianii are still active predators. I can't honestly imagine cats, even if they are bipedal and sentient, being anything else. They still like to to hunt, and they like to play. (And that remark has nothing to do with the kitten who was attacking my feet a moment ago.)

Frostfyre, my icon isn't Mr. Saxon. (I haven't watched enough Doctor Who to know the character). It's John Simm in another role, as Sam Tyler in Life on Mars.

I apologise for the lack of a new post, folks. I've been home sick for two weeks now and the diary (along with the next post or two) is on my work compy.

I should be able to get a new post up on monday.

Okay, we're in the home stretch!

I have nothing to say. I trained. I did my duty.

    I always do my duty.

I'm stuck here because my duty is not the same as my orders sometimes.

    02.05.xx ABY

I need another mission. Training is all well and good, but the edge of danger in a true mission is a better hone for skills than any training. Even live fire exercises will not get you the same experience as actually pitting yourself against the enemy, and no one will authorize a live fire exercise for me while I am still technically under mind healer supervision.

Especially not after the incident at the target course.

My vacation in the natural lands was not long enough.

This morning at the track, several people told me that Pashu was looking for me. When she didn't find me, she ran laps on her own. That made me smile while I ran my laps. I told her she'd like it after she got used to it.

Duty and orders not the same, huh? So that's sort of like this right?

    Orders: capture imperial
Duty: dismember imperial into tiny little shreds

    just curious. [face_whistling]

I'm also curious as to what exactly happens on her missions, and yet I'm not sure I want to know...

    Good update!

There is such a thing as keeping someone in therapy TOO long... I mean, if Nash were completely well-adjusted...she probably wouldn't be working as a covert operative. :)

    This is probably true. :D

Sadly, doing my duty of beating sense into my co-workers is not actually part of my orders. It's very sad!

Uh...where's my reply? I swear I replied earlier... grr. Argh!

Anyway, we'll try this again. Poor Nash, fighting a bit of the boredoms. But shes been bored and she'll be bored again. At least she got Pashu working out without her. Total bonus points for that. :)

Great post! Thanks, keep it up!

It sounds like there was another incident at the target course (unless Nash is referring to the earlier incident when she ripped the Imperial dummy to plastic shreds, but I don't recall there being any consequences save the admiration of her peers), especially given how terse she is in her 01.05 entry. She has nothing to say on the matter, whatever it is. She is on a mighty cat sulk.

Sometimes, you just can't have a long enough vacation.

She's frustrated. Because it's true, and training is only training, and no substitute for the real thing. And she's bored. It's a good thing she heard Pashu was at the track. It made her realize she'd had an influence on Pashu, and a positive one, and that seemed to cheer her up.

Okay, here we go, the last post.

    Healer's Notes:

Nash is still avoiding me. She is constantly varying when she goes to the track, making it only pure luck that I spotted her across the track from me this morning. By the time I got there she was gone, nor did I see her again. I do not particularly like this turn of events. The only thing I can think of is that she feels betrayed by my reluctance to allow them to send her on missions. I just worry about her. I worry about anyone who might get sent out with her. I worry about innocents who might find themselves between Nash and her target.

    She's still dangerous.

I have pointed this out to some of her superiors. They said she's supposed to be dangerous. I think they're missing the point.

    05.05.xx ABY

Col. Crispin approached me today. It was mostly a 'how are you doing' type of conversation. I have gotten used to them, but that does not make them any less tiresome. Tucked in between his words, however, was the feeling that I might slip this final leash they are keeping on me and get back to true active duty, real missions. The very thought makes my heart sing. That is what I am best at. That is what I am for. It may not be what my parents envisioned for me, but it is what I am, now.

    Healer's Notes:

Nash was punctual for her appointment today, as usual. She seemed happy and excited, so I asked what had caused the upswing in her mood.

She's been reassigned. She's going to an Intel squad currently based on Coruscant. I asked if she thought she was ready for that, ready to stop her sessions with me. She looked right at me and said that change was inevitable, that no assignment, no relationship, not even the stars themselves lasted forever.

I said that was a rather bleak outlook. She responded that bleak or not, it was true.

After she left, I stared at my desk for a while, stared at the forms I'd started filling out before she arrived. Forms, that if approved, would move me off this stable, safe planet and closer to the front lines, closer to the people who obviously needed help closer to hand, if Nash was any example.

I stared for a moment at the screen, then finally jabbed the 'send' button.

    Nash was right.

    All things end.

I never felt like this dragged; I always looked forward to the next post! I'm sad this is the last one, but I think it ended at a great time and on a perfect note. I think both Nash and Pashu grew in surprising directions over this story.

Great job! I'll look forward to hearing more from you. :)

So, this story and diary ends as Nash goes off to her new assignment (which I've a good feeling is the Talon Intelligence Squadron) and she starts a new story. Pashu is also making a change, and one inspired by her experience with Nash. And no, I will not quote that one song by Semisonic that was on the radio all the time in 1998, but I was tempted.

I like how the diary ends on that open note. Nash has changed, but in a subtle way I'm not certain she would recognize--mostly, she's learned to understand herself, and the life she has chosen, even better. (And she has not softened one iota towards the Imperials, but that goes without saying.)

I don't read much fanfiction, but if you are ever moved to write more about Nash, I would be interested.

All things, and stories, might end, but I'm glad I was there with this one.
