Force majeure (/ˌfɔːrs mɑːˈʒɜːr, -məˈʒɜːr/ FORSS mah-ZHUR, -mə-ZHUR; French: [fɔʁs maʒœʁ]) – or vis major (Latin) – meaning "superior force", also known as cas fortuit (French) or casus fortuitus (Latin) "chance occurrence, unavoidable accident",[1] is a common clause in contracts that essentially frees both parties from liability or obligation when an extraordinary event or circumstance beyond the control of the parties, such as a war, strike, riot, crime, or an event described by the legal term act of God (hurricane, flood, earthquake, volcanic eruption, etc.), prevents one or both parties from fulfilling their obligations under the contract. In practice, most force majeure clauses do not excuse a party's non-performance entirely, but only suspend it for the duration of the force majeure.[2][3]

Force majeure is generally intended to include occurrences beyond the reasonable control of a party, and therefore would not cover:

That implies neither wants to work with the other. They are normally enemies, but circumstances force them together.

"What do you do with a problem like Kylo?"

Heh, Grant seems like a cool down-to-Earth dude from that interview. :) Have seen him in a bunch of stuff, but never had any window into him being that cool of a guy. Sounds like a kid in a candy store.

I was asking about some speculation based on 'force majeure'+what we know of this Pryde at the moment ('know'=rumors and leaks), but thanks anyway.

For example, 'force majeure'+Pryde+Rey (the interrogation scene in that interview given by Grant) sounds like a 'the enemy of my enemy' situation, in the Rax+Sloane+Norra Wexley style. I also wonder if 'force' has some other meaning here, with those red (sith?) stormtroopers around.

Old imperials -such as, supposedly, Pryde- ended up thinking not very highly of Palpatine. Already in TLJ there was a palpable generational gap (Canady, for example)

Im not a lore buff, so maybe someone here could explain it to me, but: did the imperials (except Tarkin and a few more) regarded Windu's 'the oppression of the sith' as true, and something to be feared? Sloane herself calls Palpatine monster, but appaerntly she doesnt know he was a sith.

I guess Kylo created the rank to annoy Hux. He created two ranks, in fact -'Treacherous General' being the other.

Sounds like him. 'Highly skilled at commiting high treson'

Anyone else think "Pryde" is a bit on the nose even for SW? I'm not a fan of Maul or Grievous either, so you know.

"Pryde" is what you're taking issue with, after "Skywalker" and "Vader" and "Sidious" and "Bane" and "Solo" and "Plagueis"?

    [face_rofl]

Ridiculous cheesy names are half the fun. in"Vader", seriously? "Skywalker"? in"Sidious"? It's always been a matinee, a serial, a cartoon. Nothing going forward can ever be as laugh-out-loud as "Sidious" or "Tyranus" or "Grievous", and that's not even a negative. It is what it is.

Silly is different than on the nose. It's nice that you're easy to please though. Hollywood loves consumers.

Do you have to practice being so patronising, or does it just come naturally?

Yeah, all of us that have been fine with ridiculous crap like "Vader" and "Skywalker" from the start are just somehow mindless "'consumers".

Like somehow that objectively-laughable pulp nature isn't a huge chunk of the appeal in the first place. Idiotic character names are as "Star Wars" as Luke's speeder or Leia's hair-buns, lighten up Francis.

With certain people, it comes naturally--truth and knowledge are insults to people who live mystified lives.

Those names are much more creative than Pryde, but perhaps you can't see the difference?

You're the one who needs to lighten up. You can't seem to tolerate anyone critiquing what you like. I said before, if you enjoy this stuff, that's good. I, however, believe it can be much better.

Oddly enough, I was excited to see "Pryde" and "Bliss" as surnames. Star Wars has a well established relationship with aptronyms. Han Solo, Darth Vader, salacious crumb. Sidious, Plagueis, Maul. Sleazebaggano, etc. I'm interested in seeing how Pryde lives up to his name.

Yes and it’s more cringey that it’s spelled with a “y”. Then again I think a lot (most?) Star Wars character names are bad.

My first thought was that it's actually that it's amore 'grounded' name, since Pryde is an actual not-uncommon last name. But, sure, I guess it's too on the nose for SW, even though the guy who created SW used names like 'Solo', 'Maul', 'Sidious', 'Grievous', etc, etc.

Come on man, you just belittled anyone who actually liked the name. What's up with you lately?

It must be tough being the guardian of truth and knowledge on here. Stay strong, man.

By the way, you forgot to say 'meta'...it's a word that isn't used enough on here, I feel.

Everybody in here had better knock off the personal jabs. And @Knight of Jedi Ren Sith you need to knock off the condescension. Having an opinion about a character name doesn't grant you any superiority.

Pryde is so evil that he spells his name with a “y” because he knows it really gets some people’s undies in a bunch.

Pryde's uniform looks a grade or two fancier than Hux's, so I would guess Kylo put Pryde in charge to flip off Hux. More reason for treachery for Hux.
