    - what exactly does it mean right after Sidious defenestrates Mace, when his voice gets all weird and "choral"?

I'd say that is the Force in chorus speaking through him. But it's not the dark side or light side of the Force. I suppose you could say it's the midiclorians. But it's not the midiclorians who are in unison with Sidious. Sidious' powers allow him to make the midiclorians/Force do as he wishes. So, yes the midiclorians/Force is resonating with Sidious' wants, but only through his making it happen. Contrastingly, the Jedi would harmonize with the Force/midiclorians instead.

    - Anakin says "Love can't save you, Padme - only my new powers can do that."

Did Anakin actually achieve the power to save Padme's life? Then it would be even more ironic that he helped kill her.

He clearly, at that point, didn't have the power to save any life from death. The only power he has, which isn't anything special, is the ability to take someones life from them. He is reckless and careless and negative. All things added up, he killed her but she also lost the will to live. All vital signs were ok. So, the one other possibility is that Sidious did have a hadn to play in that. Err...reading the book now, so I'll try and find that out. <<I kind of imagine that the life-extending thing requires that a life be taken. I wonder if in keeping Anakin alive, Sidious took Padme's life to put into Anakin. errr will see>>

My brother and I were talking, and we thought maybe that the Sith DO have a power to EXTEND life, whilst the Jedi find the power to TRANSCEND life.

A good notion. I have always thought that maintaining life, extending it, is a Sith technique. Qui-Gon, who was a pupil of Dooku's, may have come across earlier techniques in his Sith readings. So, incrementally, you'd learn how to lend ones voice to the living world...then learn to become visual to the living world...and finally be able to go between both/all realms. But what you and your brother were discussing sounds good too. Like, maybe the Jedi feel comfortable becoming one with the Force. But the dark Jedi, like Sidious, fear going there deep down knowing the attrocities they've committed and hence try and remain in the physical realm forever.

    - was Obi-Wan holding back in The Duel?

I think Obi-Wan was just being defensive. And though knowing he had to kill Lord Vader, was still in disbelief a bit of what Anakin is becoming. <<not particularly bright, even by Jedi standards really>>

"greed can be a powerful ally"

Qui-Gon Jinn, like his Master Dooku, had studied some of a Sith Holocron. I think thats how Jinn is able to start communicating to Kenobi etc. even after being one with the Force. Those teachings lead up to prolonged life maybe.

[edit]Garth_Maul, maybe living the way Jinn, Kenobi and Yoda and well innocent Anakin have, they actually become 'midiclorians' ?

I don't think Anakin actually had the power to stop death. But I mean, what better way to seduce him, damn that brilliant Palpatine... he totally knew which button to push. Though, I do think that it's possible that Sidious has that power, it does make a lot of Sithly sense. And of course, Sidious could actually be helping keep Vader alive with the dark side, thus partly explaining his death when Sidious dies.

Perhaps both Anakin and Obi-Wan were holding back a little, because they didn't really want to kill each other... I think there's something in the book about that, could be wrong. But I do think they were both fighting full out. Anakin is the more powerful fighter, but Obi-Wan is smarter and not blinded by rage, and he does put himself in the position to win, but really doesn't want to kill Anakin. And Obi-Wan doesn't exactly kill him... perhaps that's why he didn't slice him in half like Maul, or cut off his head as he lay there still alive... he just left him there, perhaps so he didn't have to watch him die, relieveing some of the guilt.

I hope this is the right place to post this question but what were Anakin's exact words as he replies to Obi Wan planning on finishing him off? "You shall try." "You can try." "You will try."
