I'm not sure for the Dark Throne, but I thing that the Best Emperor album is Imperial Live Ceremony. It's an excellent live album and it has the bets Emperor stuff, IMO.

I've heard a track from the new CP. Not that good, imo. The best Darkthrone album is a draw between A Blaze In The Northern Sky and Transylvanian Hunger. Best Emperor... depends highly on what you want. Each album is completely different to the last.

Wrath of the Tyrant and Emperor = Pure BM, minimal keyboards, pretty evil stuff.
In The Nightside Eclipse = Defined BM as more than just DM in corpse paint, has some of the best BM riffs ever.
Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk = Inspired wherever the hell CoF decided to go after Dusk... It is to BM what Epic Metal is to Power Metal. Sort of, uber-symphonic with good riffs too, pretty much Thrash Metal with keyboards.
IX Equilibrium = Back to basics album, with heavy metal and death metal shining through more than BM.
Emperial Live Ceremony = Live album.
Prometheus = Neoclassical BM masterpiece. Though it's virtually an Ihsahn solo album.
Scattered Ashes = Best of, with loads of rarities too.

Choose which you think suits you best.

I can't be sure. I've only heard one track, but I'll stand with my old point that CP's getting boring and that Nattefrost is focusing too much on his solo stuff, and that Tchort is focused too much on Green Carnation.

I like their post-Nightside stuff, but to call it BM is a stretch.

I agree. They just don't do anything for me. The first two releases have an emotional honesty and conviction that sweeps them above the dreck. They still give me goosebumps.

Though it still amazes me that they claim that Samoth wrote the lyrics to "Into The Infinity of Thoughts", "Burning Shadows of Silence", "Beyond The Great Vast Forest" and "Towards The Pantheon", despite the fact that he didn't actually speak English when the album was written :p To be honest, they all look more like Mortiis lyrics than Samoth lyrics, and considering Samoth wrote only the lyrics to "In Longing Spirit" after Nightside, despite the songs that he "wrote" being the best, lyrically, on the album, I reckon that says something :p

But they did go downhill after Faust, Samoth and Tchort all went to jail. Ihsahn seemed to take over after that.

A friend and his girlfriend came over last night to hang out...finally. First people I've met here in Asheville that like the same music as me and we have alot of the same records.

Anyways, they turned me on to this band DISGUST. Loved them, Gotta get that Hemdale/Disgust split 7". There's one currently on Ebay. Wish me luck. I wonder if their full length records are as good as that 7"

Cool. I'm getting more into Grindcore recently. There was this really good US Grind band I liked, called Incendiary. Their vocalist was insane, he could hit notes about an octave higher than Dani Filth, and an octave lower too. But now they've turned into a regular Death Metal band, so they're boring now.

Immortal's lyrics make no ******* sense at all but they're still amazing. I thought Mortiis made some pretty good contributions to the band, really. Even though he's a total joke now.

Indeed. However, I simply think that Ihsahn let his ego get in the way of the music. It happens with a lot of artists. All of a sudden, they're huge and they think they have some kind of responsibility to fulfill. (ie. "Golly! I have to get singing lessons now! We're a BIG DEAL!" etc. etc.)

Yeah. Peccatum was... wow. I can't even describe it. If ego could be infused into music, it'd be Peccatum :p

The new Cryptopsy is great. I can't believe Lord Worm is still awesome after all this time. They're rockin' it like it was 1995!

Much better than the newest Suffocation.

Have you guys heard the new Nachtmystium? It's not bad at all. Necro-production black metal, but with some rock 'n' roll touches. Sounds weird, but it works. It's called Instinct: Decay.

    Nope, not heard that one.

What the hell is it with so many metal figureheads dying? In the past two weeks we've had:

    John Nodtveidt - Dissection
    Otto - Setherial/In Battle
    Kvarforth - Shining/Diabolicum

    And now, just in:

Four. Two of them veritable legends, dead in two weeks. It's like a metal purge...

    *peeks in*

Hm, so the Trop is still alive and kicking. Good.
Sorry I haven't been around to annoy you with my fangirly-ness but I've been kinda busy. Haven't had time to listen to anything that resembles metal (except Rammstein) and started TA-ing this semester, among other things. So, how's everyone?
