Crust punk and black metal have always overlapped.

I think the first one of their albums where they brought in the more traditionally punk sound was The Cult is Alive, but Darkthrone has approximately 3 million albums so your guess is as good as mine.

I think Bathory's debut is technically considered crust in some circles. There's certainly an Amebix influence in there.

Does not take much to get from here:

    to here:

Will I ever get tired of Googling "Varg Vikernes" and posting the results?

    ... Probably not.

Listened to Burzum/Aske for the first time in a long time tonight. I had forgotten the simple magic of THIS IS UH HUH, WOW.

There is a great Tumblr with Varg pics. I posted some in the villains thread.

    I have been loving "Tomhet"

I haven't listened to much Opeth but I did like what I heard. Although I am aware that they seem to be one of those love/hate bands.

    People can hate Opeth? How?

(except for the last album, that was pretty much "if you don't like 70s Italian Prog bands, **** off")

Perhaps it's more of their recent stuff that has received more criticism, I can't say for sure. I just know through browsing other forums that they have their fair share of haters. Surely you must have heard the term "Blowpeth" before. :p

I don't hang around many forums anymore, so nope. I sit contented in my own little weird world of prog, metal and Japanese idols :p

I listen to some Opeth here and there but the last album was quite bland. I prefer their growly tunes.

lol "this is uh huh wow" i am crying

all the opeths are good, apart from the newest one, which is so-so. if you are a hardcore prog nerd like i am, it's a little easier to get into. probably the weakest opeth besides the new one is morningrise. i know most of you are probably pooping your pants with outrage at this suggestion, but hear me out: an album comprised of little cells/units of laboriously repetitive riffyriffs and melodymells glued together with absolutely zero connection to one another and haphazardly divided into lengthy "songs" does not a good album make.

It's not quite up to the standard of the Burzums, in other words?

i feel that varg is trying to do something completely different with burzums, at least in relation to opeth. in essence, burzums exists on a totally different floor in the same building. or maybe in a different building altogether.

Even the bad Varg, like "Fallen", is still good.

New Varg is redeemed by Belus.

Old Varg is kvlt and needs no redemption. Unless of course you're a Mayhem fan. In which case... oops.

yes, i agree burzums is still good. but i can see burzums becoming not good in the future. and it will be a sad day when that happens.
