Kay-Dee mentioned ina few PM's that it does, so she suggested getting a little more than needing and over estimatin so not to be left with not enough.

Are you planning on jumping in and getting fabric for Flo Gaiatha? I have to score 3.5 yards for my buddy in Taiwan and I am still heavily thinking about making myself a full tunic...I am quite tempted....

But if we bulk order to say, Todd we can save shipping and we'all use paypal ;)

My buddy is REALLY anxious to get this stuff...as is Todd, but Flo and I must talk about him...

Dam this forum is back to life! I too wish i could buy some, but Indygear.com has put me in debt close to $700. At least I can wear my indy gear any day i want and still look normal. Jedi tunics jsut arent always in constant fashion.

With all this great info in the thread (and in the previous one), and instead of scrolling through pages and pages, maybe we should put it all the on a website?

Are you volunteering Matt? :D You know, at the very least you could do what Obi-Dawn and I did for the picnic thread. Read every page, copy and paste all the important information, links, photos - etc and make an intro page to a 3.0 if you don't know how to build your own web site.

Hand wash, cold water, very mild detergent like lingerie detergent (not Woolite, that stuff is supposed to be really bad for clothing.

I'd personally test washing a decent sized scrap (not just a little 1/2" sliver) before dunking all the beautiful yardage in water. I've had silk lose a ton of color when it was dunked in the cold water and it was totally ruined. This was after I was told by the sales person it was washable. So test for colorfastness for sure!

Personally if it was me and I didn't want my expensive silk to get trashed, I'd plan on getting that tunic dry cleaned. There's just no way to predict how well the fabric will hold up to repeated hand washing (It might be fine, it might not). I'd still allow for maybe 2-3" of shinking per yard to be safe. If the fabric doesn't hold it's color when test washed, steam it really well with your iron on the reverse side to get it to shrink even if you plan on dry cleaning. Yes, I have had some garments shrink at the dry cleaners because they use hot steam when they press your items.

    Phew! That was long winded.

I also thought I should let you guys know what side is considered the right side of the silk fabric. It's the side that has the raised slightly faded looking ripples.

I've been looking to do the website for a long while and detail each movie Jedi costume completely, I have the Designer background, just only recently got this thread going :)

If anyone would be willing to help host I can start this next month...hosting is the big issue :)

    EDIT:

Not for gettig you Chris! :)

Who all wants in on this fabric?

My buddy wants 3.5 yards, I may want another yard or so, Flo wants some as will Todd. Anyone else? We can get this reserved quickly and mailed out or to someone to distribute.

Sooner we get moving on this the sooner we can gurantee it :)

Flo, my boyfriend and I would be happy to help and host this website. :)
Our domain behindthehelmet.com would be kind of perfect, wouldn't it?! :p
Flo's own website is still in the very beginning, so we can use this space.
Maybe we could get in tough via email or pm? :)
Wasn't there a plan to create a website for Todd aswell?

And please, my name is Jule :)

Flo and I would like to purchase 2 yards of the fabric. We agreed on the undershirt version.

And thanks for the washing tipps kay_dee :)
Really sounds a bit like you had to learn it the hard way how to wash silk. ;)

Yeah, some silks just don't hold up to washing at all. It's a crap shoot. I've had people argue with me saying that 'It's a natural fiber. It can be washed. How do you think they cleaned things back in 1800?'. But they forget that modern fabric might not be color fast. Yeah, I can wash it but it might not look the same when I'm done.

Just spent some time at the Satin Moon today and put my name on the list for the silk when it comes in next week. I think I'll just get enough for the neck and left arm. When I walked in and asked for a certain swatch, the lady said, "Is it for Star Wars?" We got to chatting and I also started looking for robe material, and got something fairly close. But again it was expensive ($42.98). It is a washed wool sateen from Calvin Klein. Don't think I'll spend that much, but I got a swatch anyway as a guide when I look elsewhere.

We also got to talking about costuming, and they have been working with Lucas since "American Graffiti" and "A New Hope", where they were looking for white cottons for the film. I assume it was for Luke's farm costume.

Pay attention to the glove, since it's one of the best gloves I've seen around actually.
It took me 3 weeks to finish everything off. It's all hand-made. :D
I'm so proud and happy about it :D
    What do you guys say?

Wow Jeadhead1, they didn't tell me they were also shopped at back for ANH. When I spoke with her she said she didn't even realize they were part of Star Wars history and featured in the DVD (and book) until a client told them. I think it's cool that the designers frequented San Francisco Bay Area stores and gave the local economy their business. Although we know Trisha shopped all around the world! It does seem I find things here and there that were probably found on those San Francisco shopping trips! (If only I could find more Padme stuff than just the ribbon!)

You'll have to show me your cloak swatch next time I see you. We can compare it to my book swatch ;)

i just got some super good new from brenda at kropserkel...

    she says....

    "Hello John,

I have very exciting news. A few months ago I purchased the book
Dressing the Galaxy. This week it finally arrived and it included the fabric
samples for the Annie 3. The samples included the sample for the
cloak, which I am now trying to obtain. The one I had was similar
but not quite right so I am searching again. The inner clothing was
correct. If it is okay with you, just bear with me a little longer. I am
assuming you would prefer the correct fabric that is as close as possible.
I am very excited by all this!

    Sincerely,
    Brenda Maple"

so i guess im getting everything accurate!! whoohooooo!!!!

if any other prospective anakin wannabees want to hold off for a bit i should have something really super sweet to show you when i get it...she will then most likley be offering the whole outfit for sale soon after..

Hey everyone. I've been doing research for an Anakin Episode III costume for the past few months, but I've JUST NOW discovered this site!! Haha. I've read through most of this thread, and I must say that all of the info has been a great help.

Just thought I'd share the first part of my costume with all of you: Anakin's lightsaber. It's an EL modified graflex flash unit with ROTS conversion done. I know that the actual prop used in ROTS wasn't a graflex, but was made to look the same. This thing is pretty heavy, and has more of a realistic "not-too-shiny" finish. The scale is also a lot more accurate, compared to the MR Force FX hilt. I'll post some more pics if you guys want...

    [image=http://premium1.uploadit.org/damndan18//Lightsaber.jpg]

Also, I've tried to sort through all of the fabric postings... but what was the final word on inner tunic fabric and outer tunic fabric?

Danakin - the final word on the inner tunic fabric is that the silk carried at Satin Moon is an exact match to the costume in every way shape and form (Trisha probably even got her's there). I know it is a leap of faith for some who don't have the swatch book or ability to do a side by side comparison on their own. Those who know me personally know I'm a detail freak so this isn't a case of me getting excited over something almost perfect ;)

Any day now they they will have another bolt come in from the manufacturer. They know this is the 'star wars fabric.' According to the store owner, this fabric is no longer in production so there are very limited supplies left (meaning, no guarantee she can get another bolt after this 13 yard roll sells).

    Satin Moon
32 Clement Street, San Francisco. Tel. 415.668.1623

    [image=http://kay-dee.net/costumes/anakin/anakin-silk.jpg]

At the risk of sounding repetitive, the reference swatch is under 'Kathy S.' and I wouldn't be surprised if they jotted down "Star Wars" next to it by now!

For additional reference give them this info:

    Name of Fabric: Stretch Crepe
Fiber Content: 95% silk 5% Lycra
    Color: Sable # 194
    Price: $29.98/yard

So if any of you Anakin's have a young lady wanting to - uh - take a look at your inner tunic at a convention don't get the wrong idea! LOL! I just can't wait to see some tunics made of of the silk I found :)

Thanks a lot Kay Dee! How about the outer tunic? Is there anything that you know of that's 100% accurate, or at least ALMOST perfect? I've seen plenty of suggestions, but with all of the money that I'm planning on spending for this costume, I decided against buying the Dressing a Galaxy book! Haha.
