This is how I imagine a conversation between Kylo and Anakin:

Anakin: I literally died to stop the evil in the galaxy and save my son

Kylo: Okay... that sounds fake, but okay...

    Nope.
Sorry, but Anakin Skywalker is long dead and has nothing to offer anyone. Even before turning to the dark side, he was a whiney pissant brat that had too much power for his own good. He was never half the man Luke was/is. Any and all wisdom can come from Luke.

Ugh, I don't understand why people leap to such an extreme conclusion. You have a boy raised as a Stormtrooper, and a girl who grew up a lowly scavenger on a backwater world.

That is hardly "people of the time".

Your opinion, and I disagree with it. Also, as it had been said multiple times, Vader could have had something with creating First Order. So if they go in that direction it could be important for the story. That is just one option.

I am not even gonna respond on the second part of your comment. To me that looks just like baiting and hating, nothing else.

Its appropriate hating for both a character and actor that deserve no praise. None.

He's telling Rey & Finn that the stories about the Force are true. The old stories about the Jedi & the Dark Side are all true. The Force is real. All of the other dialogue around this point of the trailer is also about the Force.

Hate is such a strong word for a person you don't even know. I don't think that is very healthy, but that is your choice.

Anyway I have no interest in continuing this discussion since you don't know how to make a statement without bashing or gushing so you will be the first person here I am gonna put on Ignore. Bye.

He is so not going to show up in any future star wars movie. :D First of all it wouldn't make much sense and even if they did a flashback, it would probably be Vader in his suit. Also, too many hardcore fans hate the prequels and having an actor from these might discourage some people. I think JJ wanted a clean slate and a chance to appeal to all the fans, both the newer generations that enjoyed prequels and the old die hard fans.

This would be considered bashing... this thread has been warned about this before.

Why wouldn't it make sense? He's the canonical ghost in ROTJ. As far as the hardcore fans...who cares? If it makes sense for the story, do it. Don't pander to a bunch of people who haven't gotten over the fact that they didn't like a set a movies that were made 10-16 years ago.

As far as JJ is concerned, he doesn't have a say in what happens in Episode VIII or IX. If Rian wants Hayden back for VIII, he'll get him.

Really, you consider that change by GL to be canon? It made no sense and was really unnecessary.

What is and is not canon is not open to debate or consideration. But arguments about canon aren't allowed in here anyway.

Yup, I sure do. And not only do I consider it canon, but LFL, who runs the show in terms of what is canon and what is not, does as well.

I was talking about implications for the larger perception of those things by the people of the time.

Stating something like "it sounds like" is hardly an extreme conclusion, but the observation of a possible implication. We don't know that they don't have similar knowledge of other people of the time, in fact, we know very little; you are speculating just like I am.

Don't think it's happening. That being said....if it was utilized in the right way it could work. I don't think Disney and Co. want to remind people of the prequels though. Myself included haha

Somehow funny to think about the situation having Adam Driver talking to Hayden Christensen in a Star Wars movie. This is as much to do with Adam as with Hayden. I would watch though.

Let's try to think about this objectively, putting aside personal feelings about the movies and focusing on what we actually see and hear in them.

At the end of ROTJ, Anakin Skywalker breaks through the hatred of Darth Vader and in doing so, saves his son, destroys the Sith and is returned to the Light Side of the Force, allowing him to retain his consciousness and form after death. Fast forward 30 years. Kylo Ren, a follower of the Dark Side and a Darth Vader fanboy, wants to continue what he sees as Vader's legacy and presumably bring darkness to the galaxy. But what is Vader's legacy? Is it the destruction of the Jedi? Is it the Empire and the way of the Sith? Or is Vader's true legacy his children? The destruction of the Sith and the rebirth of the Jedi and Republic?

Kylo appears to value Vader as a master of the Dark Side. This can mean only one of two things. Either Kylo doesn't know about Vader's redemption or he doesn't care. Maybe he thinks Luke made it up or maybe he views Vader's redemption as the thing that Kylo needs to rectify. Either way, he's not following the redeemed Anakin Skywalker, he's following Darth Vader. If there is anyone who could or should tell Kylo he's following the wrong path, it's not Luke, it's Vader himself. Whether Kylo would listen to him or not is another matter, but it's certainly reasonable to suggest that Anakin could make an appearance to Kylo, given that he's achieved the ultimate Jedi power in retaining his identity after death and not diminishing to become part of the cosmic Force.

But which version of Anakin would appear? Well, Sebastian Shaw has passed on so it couldn't be him. Luckily, Lucas solved that problem long before The Force Awakens even existed, by having Force Ghost Anakin be the younger version, as played by Christensen. Kylo doesn't know or care about Yoda or Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon is a formless spirit who died when Anakin was a child. Only Anakin himself has any meaning to Kylo so if there were to be an appearance, it would have to be by him and Christensen is the only actor who can play that part.

Now, is an appearance by Anakin actually required? Maybe not. It would make sense for him to show up, given Kylo's obsession with him, but it wouldn't surprise me if, in Episode VIII, Luke had a line about talking to his father for a while, learning about the old Jedi, about his mother etc before Anakin eventually gave up his Force Ghost form to become part of the Force forever.
