It would be extremely strange and disappointing if Imperial prison guards are presented as "allies".

    Yes, all very hypothetical.

What is real, however, looking forward to episode 11 and leaving some elements of this discussion behind...

The pitch-shifted P.A. (prisoner address) system, a studio technique common in chopped and screwed music, reminds me of the song DNA by Saul Williams.
    Spoiler tag for language warning:

BTW, his album The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! is excellent from start to finish, and was produced by Trent Reznor.

Probably the best episode of the series so far. I'm really looking forward to the remaining two episodes.

    I gave it 10/10.

Wow! I just finished this and the whole episode exceeded my expectations. I knew it was the break-out ep, but the way it was done was so epic. The filming and feel really made the stakes be felt as well. Cassian for most of the series has been really indifferent to the Rebels and you can't see where the changes comes in. Of course we have seen it evolve over the last 2 eps. Here though you see this is the Cassian, the leader, we see in R1.

Mon's scenes here were fairly tame. It's been an interesting choice to add this in the series, but we do see the entirety of what it takes to pull off a rebellion. Of course that isn't always as "sexy," but it's part and parcel.

That last scene with Luthen was so well done. It really gave you chills to what he's given up.

10/10 Can SW can get any better? I hope so, but right now it feels like we're living in a golden era.

I would have liked to see Cassian pull a Han Solo move and shoot up the control panel.

Also, did you notice in the first establishing shot of the prison building, there are downspout vortexes at all 7 points of the building? (time 7:20 in E8) Obviously for the purpose of grabbing any escapees. I wonder how well they worked. Maybe disabled when the power went out? In the same scene, there is another prison building in the background. Could that be for female or alien prisoners?

There are multiple prison buildings in the first establishing shot, and we also see that the shoreline is quite close, so the swimming distance isn't that unbelievable.

And yeah, the whirlpools are likely created by the energy system. So power's out, whirlpools out.

The whirlpools weren't for the purpose of sucking in escapees. The whirlpools were the intakes for the hydropower generators.

That said, they would surely have sucked in many, so Cassian telling the guy to shut the whole thing down was providential even if he wasn't actually thinking of that at the time.

Interestingly the entire outer ring of the prison is a circular dam with the water pouring down the middle. This inevitably means that the body of water they're in is a high-elevation lake, and there is an outflow pipe running off from the bottom of each prison along or under the lake bed, through the surrounding land, and discharging somewhere at a lower elevation, perhaps miles away.

Narkina 5 is presumably one of at least 5 moons orbiting the gas giant (possibly known simply as Narkina). Perhaps engineers built reservoirs around this lake, utilizing the gas giant's tidal pull to supply the surrounding reservoirs, from a larger body of water, filling the lake with a controlled replenishment of water, which then goes down the whirlpools. I'll coin this "tidal wicking". There could even be a series of aqueduct locks that step the water up to the reservoirs from the lower elevations.
It's a scenario where a planet's gravitational pull affects a moon's tides, as opposed to what we're used to.

As for where the water goes once it descends past the hydropower generators..... maybe a subterranean lake with more aqueduct locks where the water gets wicked back to the larger body of water by Narkina's pull.

Maybe that's what happens to Kino. He jumps down that central section, and has a gentle landing similar to Luke's fall in Cloud City. Kino then works his way up the locks, and exits a coastal culvert.

With that particular facility's turbines shut down and the sluice gates closed, there is no flow of water through it at all. The outflow tunnel should be drained empty as a result. Kino and all other non-swimmers (realistically several hundred, maybe as many as a thousand men) could totally use this as an escape vector. Normally it wouldn't work since the tunnel would be full of water and anyone entering it would drown. But the flow of water to it is cut off, so it should drain out and be passable.

I’ve finally caught up on Andor. I got married a few weeks back and was busy with that and family. So now back to the important stuff… Star Wars! :p
I gave this one a 10/10, which I’ve only done for episode 6 up until now. It was an intense and edge of your seat type of episode. I really like Andy Serkis and came to like his character in the last episode. Sadly that didn’t look like him running with Andor at the end. I hope we haven’t seen the last of Kino Loy.

When Cassian first arrived at Narkin 5, the whirlpools were a "Oh, weird. I wonder what that's all about. Looks interesting." When they shut down the hydro generators, it was "Ah, ok -- that's what caused the whirlpools!" Such a cool idea and visual, and getting a payoff that mattered was a nice bonus.

I never posted in this thread. Mostly because I'm running out of superlatives. Before, I was dying for the time to pass quickly for the next episode. Now I want it to crawl because we are getting too close to the end...

So I've compiled a list of ways Kino could have made it out.

    1. Someone teaches him how to swim

    2. He sort of makes his way to shore by grabbing onto other prisoners.

    3. He makes a raft out of the guard' boots and uses a zap rod as an oar

    4. He rides a sea creature back to shore

    5. When the empire arrives to bring the next load of prisoners he sneaks aboard the ship

    6. The prison is a ship like the colossus and Kino flies it away

    7. He fails about in the water and eventually figures out how swimming works.

10/10. As the last several episodes have been for me. Ultimately it's not my favorite SW material, but for what it IS-it's fantastic. The series starts quite slow, but really has paid off over time.
