Well, what Bix nearly experienced was difficult to watch. But she showed that she's tough as nails. After having a year to process her ex and the Empire's torture, she's done taking crap from anyone. I'll miss Brasso, and I'm glad Cassian decided to go in guns blazing. As for Mon, she's quite understandably dancing her worries away for the moment. I felt how much Val and Cinta have missed each other. Very relatable to how I used to feel prior to 2018.

I actually bought how Dedra was standing up for Syril. Why? For starters, she described her background. She thinks she has to mother Syril, and Syril's mom gave her yet another reason to believe that she can fix him. Still not a healthy dynamic, but you know what I mean.

Given all this emotional realism, I rate this as the best of the first three episodes. But all three were great.

Disagree, he still has a ways to go to the Andor we meet in R1, with a lot of that being the loss of his friends, starting with Brasso. He still has to turn into the cold blooded killer he is in R1 with all humanity stripped away before Jyn restores it.

Dedra and Syril was such a REAL relationship. My wife genuinely turned to me and said 'Maybe you should say this to my mother'!

There are plenty of passive-aggressive and demeaning parents who need scolding by adult offspring and their in-laws. But I doubt your wife stalked you twice before she got with you, which is what he did to her in Season 1. If Dedra got that side out of Syril, then more power to her. I'm merely saying that rarely works out.

The fact that the Imperial officers were throwing around words like undocumented and illegal to describe sapient beings is important. As with Cassian's arrest at the resort in Season 1, it highlights real-world problems. In the case of that officer Bix defeated, the Imperial guy was trying to use his knowledge of her status to show his power over her. Very disturbing and realistic.

Hm I'm not sure if I'd call what he did 'stalking' her in the sense that he wasn't obsessing over her, he was obsessing over the case. I think that's a bit of a misread. Their relationship sparked to life because he saved her life in a very intense situation. Whether that's the right basis for a relationship is another discussion, but let's not misread the portrayal.

I also was just commenting on the dinner with his mother, not the rest of their relationship.

Huh? It’s very clear in S1 that Syril was waiting for her outside her place of work not just because of the case, but because he felt invigorated by her presence. He was stalking her. Dedra said it. And Syril admitted it.

And she's such a mess that she took that as relationship material. It's brilliant characterization, with the additional information of her upbringing. Being stalked by Norman Bates is the most affection she has probably even been shown in her life.

Also love that Dedra does her research no matter what situation she is entering. It also perfectly compliments what she says to Krennic when he calls her out for being silent. But here with Syril's mom, Dedra has all the facts and goes in guns blazing. I particularly love how she shut down Uncle Harlo stories going forward. ^:)^

I almost suspect that if we see Ma Karn again at all, she will be completely muzzled and just sitting quietly with her hands in her lap.

Syril admitted he was stalking her because he was interested in her personally? I might have missed that scene on my re-watch.

After my (I lost count) at least 20th rewatch of the whole season one I can confidently say it was painfully and awkwardly clear that Cyril’s interest was also on a personal level very icky and very cringey 8-}[face_sick]

    Tay's a goner. Cinta doesn't miss.

Exactly. Change the timing and circumstances, and these could be the people who gave their lives following Cassian to Scariff in R1.

Well, she's not 17 or 23 or whatever. I've seen some people say the line is a kind of lore error. Not saying that you're saying that. At any rate, I'd suspect that her parents were criminals during the Republic era, that she came under the "kinderblock" care under the Republic, and that the Republic/Imperial distinction doesn't really matter because one theme of the show is that the Empire was marked by gradual changes to the way of life (think Maarva's "we were sleeping" line) such that the more unnatural line from someone in Dedra's position would be "well, actually, it was the Republic, but then it became Imperial").

Oh Syril you're such a wimp, I was certain Dedra was using him but I'm not sure now. I just couldn't believe the ice queen telling Syril's mother when she could see him, when he'd contact her. All Dedra needs now is a collar and lead and she can take Syril to ISB meetings.

I think an interesting seed that might pay off is the convo between Andor and Kleya. She has been very careful with the coded transmissions but that was anything but. I wonder they might end up being an important strand that leads to the exposing of Rael. That transmission might come back to haunt them because all code broke down.

Mon Mothma is consistently shown as a planner, in control. The scene of her dancing, her frustration, maybe her acceptance, at her inability to manage not only her life, but her role in the rebellion. Knowing she can do nothing to save her childhood sweetheart and friend. Her frenzied dancing was just perfect reflection of the chaos her life is slowly becoming.

Just an aside, GoT did too good a job. I immediately have a negative emotional reaction every time I see Vel. I can't separate her Andor character from her GoT character.

The bit I appreciate in Mon cutting loose is how it was (intentionally or otherwise) following her husband's advice to focus on a good time if you cannot have control over the anxiety life in the galaxy has thrust upon you.

Music during Dedra and Syril's preparations is so retro (in a good way), reminded me of The Incredibles.

I definitely did not think Mon was focusing on having a good time. She is pretending to be celebrating but is really, truly miserable and drowning her sorrows. She's trying to lose herself, numb herself to pain that is about to unfold around her.

I enjoyed this episode more than the second. The first is still my favorite of the initial three.

I’m puzzled by Tay Kolma. I don’t believe he would have acted as he did based on what I know of his character from season 1. I suppose this is a casualty of the increased pace of the show. If Andor was intended to be 5 seasons then the entire second season was condensed to these three episodes. Perhaps we would’ve seen more of his spiral/downfall given more episodes.

Part of me is glad they didn’t drag out the TIE heist/wedding/wheat arc for an entire season.

Love every part of Chandrilan culture. The wedding traditions are an unexpectedly great addition to the series.

I’ll likely watch all three again before next week. Overall, I’m pleased with the first arc.

Dedra actually seeming to care about Syril, at least on some level, is a nice surprise.

    I'm almost speechless.

    In awe.

That was fantastic. Peak SW stuff right here. Give this guy a trilogy of movies already.

I really loved the entire wedding plot line. The visuals were unique and lovely. Mon losing herself in the dance, knowing she's getting in deep now and having to go against her morals and kinder sensibilities, all for this fight is great. And I think she's going to lose her husband and daughter by the end of this too. Entire thing feels like a set up for loss.

And I especially loved that the planet that Cass crashed on was Yavin, but before there's a base there.

EDIT: Also..now that's how you do a freaking Imperial harvesting story. I'm talking to you, Rebel Moon! lol.

I was convinced... convinced... that Tay Kolma spending 2 nights becoming publicly blindingly, staggeringly drunk on a planet full of steep cliffs was going to end on the third night with him "accidentally" drunkenly falling to his death. And then they nailed the landing with him quietly being given a lift off screen, never to be seen again.
