It breaks the illusion of everything being “real”. Which is why the Legends vs Canon debate is the way it is.

Syril is interesting because he's not really been set up as the stereotypical "sympathetic Imperial". He supports the system enthusiastically, and it's not because he's blind to some of their less-savory methods. But at the same time, he's been able to maintain that position without having to compromise his own warped, but strong, sense of justice. He knows he's serving a weaponized police state but thinks the people being crushed are criminals and deserve it. He cares about his perception and role in society but genuinely believes the Empire will reward him on hard work and merit. As per Krennic's instructions, he's not authorized to know anything about the true nature of their mission. In his eyes the Ghorman Front are troublemakers who need to be dealt with, but would he condone actually destroying the entire planet with no regards to the civilian population, or does his "the ends justify the means" attitude have some limits? That I think is still up in the air and we're going to find out where his line in the sand is or is not because the Empire is just going to keep pushing.

People don't know the whole story of why Jimmy Smits couldn't return, he's an actor and work can't be guaranteed, Jimmy had got a regular gig with East New York until 2023. He hasn't worked since so it might also be health reasons he wants to keep private, we just don't know but we do know Bail is very important to the story at that particular time.

    From new interviews..

Tony Gilroy confirms Cinta’s death had nothing to do with Varada Sethu’s schedule:

“It was totally story, and the tragedy of them getting back together. I mean, it’s the same thing with [actor] Joplin Siptain and Brasso — there has to be a cost as we go.

“I just love Faye Marsay. I don’t know if you've seen Adolescence, but she's in that and she was in Game of Thrones and she's just the most simple, straightforward, no bulls--- actor. I did it as much for her as I did for anything else. I wanted to add some luggage for her, and that seemed the way to do it.” -Tony Gilroy on Cinta’s demise, #Andor

I like this take on Syril. It makes me think that ultimately he'll be crushed like the people he perceives as criminals.

It happened at the end of the episode, so maybe we'll see this is not a good thing for Bix in the long run.

I'm really disgusted by this. Vel has plenty of "luggage" already to work with. Framing Cinta as "luggage" puts a bad taste in my mouth. She died purely for her white girlfriend's development. Her character was so underdeveloped already.

I was a little distracted. But I'll get used to it. I mean, they recast Breha already. It would be cool to both the Organas' new actors together. (I was also distracted by Yularen's casting, but I felt Malcolm Sinclair's second appearance was an improvement, so I expect it will be much the same with Benjamin Bratt for me.)

Yeah. He doesn’t know that the Empire is planning to gouge mine Ghorman for kalkite, and potentially destroy the entire planet. And if needed, wipe out the Ghormans.
Yup. And that’s exactly why Gilroy put Bail in an inconsequential scene in episode 6. So the initial distraction wouldn’t happen during an important scene, and that we could then accept Bratt when watching his meatier role in subsequent episodes.

Sucks we couldn't get Jimmy Smits, he was a good bridge between the two eras, and this would have been his perfect chance to shine. I guess Bratt's more age appropriate though.

I've figured out why Cinta's death doesn't resonate with me on a thematic level. Cinta's always pushing this belief that the Empire is unrelenting, and that you can't stop fighting it for a moment, even if it means giving up time for yourself, even if you die before you ever get to rest. But the Empire didn't kill Cinta. Her death doesn't reinforce her point. And we know the show doesn't think Cinta is wrong, because it's a lesson Cassian has to learn too; he learned it on Niamos. It's a lesson Luthen knows; he tries to impart it to Lonni. It's a lesson Saw knows; people are afraid of how much he understands this. I could go on. But the point is, Cinta's death doesn't say anything about her character. Other characters' deaths are the culminations of their character theses. Cinta's isn't. She died to lend tragedy to a ship that was already tragic. I would much prefer if they had built on the tragedy that already existed in Velcinta's situation.

I feel like it would have been more interesting if Vel was the one who died, Cinta just feels so underdeveloped and feels too much like fridging the love interest especially since all the focus has been on Vel wanting to spend time with Cinta and was a bigger POV character.

    Great episode.

I cannot get over how amazing Coruscant is in this series. Loved all the scenes at the gallery. The effects works is really gorgeous and they make it feel so alive. And I really dug Bail here in his quick scene.

And I just loved Ghorman too. The city streets, and walls, and tunnels. My god, this is how you do a resistance story. This is what a resistance actually is. You can feel the weight of the Empire bearing down on them, where one wrong move and it's over.

Now I need to rewatch them, because I'm definitely missing some details.

I'm mad about the Bury Your Gays trope making an appearance here, complete with them coming back together and having a beautiful happy moment right before Cinta died. I expected one or both of my girls to die this season, but Cinta was already underwritten. And the manner of her death felt too circa Buffy the Vampire Slayer for my liking. With a little white girl gets to live.

And I get it's supposed to be tragic, but things resonate in our world differently than in Star Wars.

Also people need to let go of the recast, was it a little different? Yeah. Is that bad? Nope!

There is a possible reason it couldn’t be Val and that’s because of her very clear link to Mon Mothma. I know they took the body with them but if at this point in time it was discovered Val had been killed fighting for the rebellion / Ghorman, Mothma cannot stay in hiding any longer, it’s too early.

I mean tbf it seems most relationships go to foodoo in this franchise, and besides Cassian they were the only survivors of the heist in Season 1. If Cinta had to be the one to die, then it might have felt more impactful if the "brief moment of happiness" took place over an entire episode where we see the loving dynamic, instead of just Cinta being cold to her, and trauma dumping into a kiss where she dies two scenes later.
