Been think the same as well for a while. I'm willing to bet he's going to be a powerful dark side master, and have force-lighting or something like it. But I also rather like the idea that the big baddie has no powers, and there's a reason for it. Snoke can still be powerful in the sense that he's demanding, thoughtful, and threatening, while having no force powers at all.

An old theory I had was that Snoke was just part of this ancient dark side cult, who's job it was to protect the linage of the dark side warriors. When he Sith fell, Snoke, as part of this dark side cult, call them...The Acolytes of the Dark Side, or what have you, spring into action to look for a new Dark Side Master. Snoke is well-versed in the Force, but like the Guardians of the Whills in Rogue One, he lacks any active force power. He's a believer, he knows it's all real, he can even sense it and sometimes allow it to control him. But he has no ability to control it or to harness it. His role, as part of this cult, is to find a new dark side Master and begin the line all over again. It's serious business and he treats Kylo like a failure because he desperately the galaxy to have a new Dark Master.

Perhaps when Kylo finds out this truth, that Snoke doesn't have any real power, it will enrage him, push him over the edge. Kylo might think it's his true destiny. His rightful legacy. Kylo then kills Snoke and takes his place as Master, of the Force and of the First Order. Thanks Snoke.

That could potentially make for a cool show down, in a different way then we've had in other trilogies. Instead of building up to this end battle with Snoke (like Luke vs the Emperor in ROTJ), it's really all about fighting Kylo.

Snoke is really the former Lobot. He tore of his headpiece, that Lando used to control him, and went rogue. [face_hypnotized] You heard it here first. :p

It isn't decay. That isn't what decay looks like. It is what skin and fat look like when they are melted, either by extreme heat or acid.

He kind of looks like a human tree. Specifically the neck. Anyone good enough with human anatomy to know if the muscles and blood vessels match up with a human neck?

I think George himself talked about there being some big evil out there that was just observing things from afar during the events of the OT or something like that (exact wording may be off quite a bit) at one time when thinking about ST movies and it was said Snoke is a character that Georgia's thinking went into some.

In the artbook you have that creepy shadowy figure behind Talon and those drawings where Talon was tricking and then slaying Jedi apprentices apparently.

Yep, it resembles melty stringy cheese. Particularly his neck.

If that's the case, I don't think it's Snoke. I think there's someone or something behind him.

I'm strongly considering that Snoke is a whill or something like that.

The mirror image if it's a help to anyone in figuring out his identity, I can't think of anything myself.

This is where my money is right now, or it could be that the Whills had their own enemy like the Sith, only on a much larger scale. Maybe in another galaxy, Snoke had destroyed the Whills but some of them escaped into the GFFA to spread knowledge of the Force and groups like the Jedi rose. Snoke watched from afar and waited for the Sith to destroy the Jedi, and once a power vacuum opened, Snoke decided to make his move. Why he decided to leave his galaxy/world is anyone's guess, but it would be best of that motive was focused on desire or need. Maybe he used up his world and now wants to control or destroy more.

Yeah, his neck does seem illogical if he is all human. Maybe Darth Plagueis was able to somehow extract DNA from the Force Tree on Ahch-to, and mix it with the DNA of a fallen Jedi (Lost Twenty). Creating a genetic mutation: Snoke. :p

Seriously though; to me, the Snoke we see here, looks less threatening than the one we saw in the holograms in TFA. Simply put. If you were to line up pics of Snoke, and all the major Villains from the previous Star Wars movies in a row, Snoke looks out of place. It's like those games, where there is a group of images; and you are supposed to pick out the one that doesn't fit. He doesn't invoke any fear in me; only sympathy. He just looks like an old man, who has suffered a bad accident.

Like the idea about a Snoke being like a anti-Whill. I'm pretty sure Snoke turns out be ancient .

Again, it is an expressionless CGI model. Once Andy Serkis' expressions are added to it I expect it to be quite scary. People today have more and more been taught that people with visual disfigurement are not monsters to be afraid of so it's not surprising that a expressionless, non threatening disfigured face does not make you fearful. I think good example of this is the Human/alien hybrid in Alien:Resurrection, it can go from looking horrible and scary, to looking sad so you almost feel sorry for it, all just from facial expression.

People are always arguing that Snoke should be different. If he's less scary than usual and more pathos producing, that's not necessarily a weakness but a potential strength.

Anyway, I think the character's actions and beliefs are just as important in terms of creating fear.

It really is such a difficult ask for the writers to come up with a completely new 'big bad' for the Sequel Trilogy. I mean, you can't get much better than Emperor Palpatine as an example of the ultimate villain...

Anyhow, I recall Rian Johnson as having said he doesn't really delve that much into Snoke in TLJ. Also, I don't think CT really will in 9 either.
The character screams 'back story' to me.

Absolutely. Personally, I´m feeling more and more intrigued by the character, that was from the first time I saw TFA one of my main points of interest. This new image only enhances his potential and my interest in his story...

I think Johnson just meant compared to some other characters. By the end of Ep 8 Snoke will have had way more screen time than the Emperor did in Ep 4 and 5.

The theories of him being someone we know won't end until the trilogy is over. Even then there'll probably still be people saying things like, "Well, he COULD have been Plagueis -- he just doesn't call himself that anymore."

The only way it will truly end is if they spell it out in the next two films that he's someone new.

Can't help, this picture screams Finis Valorum to me. Maybe the title Supreme Leader isn't a coincidence but a hint...
