Due to the success of the PT CBC discussions, I would like to discuss ANH chapter by chapter on the DVD. There are 47 chapters to discuss over the next eight months, excluding Chapter 1: Opening Logos, Chapter 2: A New Hope and Chapter 50: End Credits.

Each discussion will last 5 days. At the end of 5 days, the following chapter will be posted.

Chapter 41: Arrival on Yavin 4
    DISCUSSION: May 31, 2005 - June 4, 2005
    DVD TIME INDEX: 98:02 - 99:32

    Synopsis:
The Millennium Falcon heads toward the moon of Yavin 4, passing the red ball of Yavin. The ship breaks through the atmosphere sailing above the forest and is picked up by a sentry. At the Massassi Temple, the Rebel Base, Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie are brought into the hangar bay on transport. One of the leaders hugs Leia glad that she is safe from the Empire. Leia says that there's no time for compassion and they must take the data out of Artoo immediately. Artoo is hooked up to the main computer at the Rebel briefing. The Death Star structure appears on a viewing screen. Meanwhile the Ultimate Weapon looms in on the base. In the Death Star conference room, Tarkin is informed that they are approaching Yavin. Back on Yavin, mist surrounds the temple. END OF CHAPTER

    Opinion:
Officially the final act starts, we reached our final planet or superstructure in space and it's one of many scene that preludes the first end space battle of the saga, theatrically of course.

There's really not much to this scene. It's really more of filler material and about destination. It furthers the story bridging the previous chapter and the chapter succeeding it. Yavin 4 is certainly a beautiful planet. The cinematography used for the entrance to the Massassi Temple is good. I think Guatemala was an interesting locale for Yavin 4. There's a creepiness and a beauty surrounding the planet.

Pretty much this chapter just establishes the planet, the fact that the Rebels know that Leia is safe and that Death Star is approaching the planet. For one reason or another, I don't remember the Death Star closing in this early. I also like the cinematography used when Artoo gets plugged in. Fits the film perfectly, but wouldn't work for the prequels

It's a good chapter. I love the last shot with the mist, that's the part what I consider creepy. I haven't read much EU about the Massassis, but I have this feeling that it echoes their characters. Good chapter.

After watching ROTJ just recently, I noticed a great size diffrence between Yavin and DSI and Endor and DSII. Now DSII's supposed to be bigger and badder, but the DSI gave the illusion that it was bigger since it's almost the size of Yavin.

I like Yavin IV. It was almost going to be Kashyyyk in the early drafts. And I still think of it as a forest/ jungle. But I thought GL never like to double up on environments, now with Kashyyyk in the mix.
