I thought tachi meant "we" or "us", it's a plural pronoun. Hmm, could that be an error in the sub translation?

ok, I just saw a commercial on Toonami for something called D.I.C.E.

what the hell is this? Is it real anime or an american imitation like Megas XLR. All i know is it looks 100% crap.

D.I.C.E. is a kiddy show made by Xebec for America. Which definitally makes it odd. But Xebec tends to make great anime, such as Nadesico, Stellvia, Love Hina, and others.

Then again they've recently made Fafner, so that doesn't always hold true.

They've also made Zoids, so the similarities you are probably seeing are definitally there.

Hey, lets not go associating a good show like Megas XLR with this new one we know nothing about.

Second show of the season appeared.
Bah Air is an another harem, definitly based on a hentai game. I've to admit the setting of the show is interesting and the animation looks fantastic (HDTV rip I'm assuming). The characters are typical are not interesting.

I will probably drop it in time, like with Mahou Sensei Negima :)

RS, Megas is not ripping off anime. It's spoofing anime along with B films, video games, and the DMV. Basically whatever it can, whenever it can. So far it's had two episodes that are definitally spoofs of anime. The one with the Gatchaman Force/Voltron/Power Ranger guys, and the other with the Sailor Moon people.

Uh oh, I'm in an anime related jam and I need this threads sage advice! (and I don't mean the herb)

I only have enough cash for Neon Genesis Avanglion of Serial Experement Lain, which 1 should i buy?

EDIT: If I buy Lain I will have 20 bucks left over but Genesis comes with the movie

Lain since you spelt Evangelion wrong :p just kidding

Well, seems you are thinking of getting the Perfect Collection of NGE, and i was too, and then i was given sage advice to get the Platinums, there will be 6 of them, and 4 are out now, with number 5 due out February 8 and number 6 due out March 15 i wanna say.

Personally, I know nothing of Lain, but am going to get it from somebody in anime club.

    It's Evangelion. With an E.

I'd definitlaly say Evangelion, but judging by your edit you're going to buy bootlegs again. In that case, I don't care.

Now, Trell, let's not jump to conclusions like the people in the JCC.

How much are each of these and how many discs come with each?

If you say that they are both over $100 and come with 4 discs for Lain(I believe that's how many there were) and 8 for Evangelion, then I would say buy Lain and then buy Evangelion Platinum Vol. 1.

If you say they are around one disc, are less than $100 and have chinese subtitles...then walk up to the Geneon and ADV headquarters, bend over, and ask them to be gentle.

easy "answer" to your question: all those that are into eva in this thread (read: the majority of this thread) will tell you to buy eva, i (and maybe a couple others) who are into lain will tell you to buy lain.

both are thought-provoking...an eva fan will tell you it is moreso and a lain fan will tell you it is moreso (like i would), however eva is longer, includes 2 movies at the end (one of which is completely unecessary) and includes, largely, action. lain=no action, as i said before. it's really a matter of personal preference as to what you will be happier w/.

what other shows are you into and maybe a less biased recommendation can be reached?

(one of which is completely unecessary)

Well let's keep in mind that the first movie came out a good two years after the show ended on TV. (I think.) So your average fan would need a review of events. That also included a few of the scenes cut from the show, so it's also good for that.

Iwa, if you'll notice, I'm a big Eva fan but I suggested getting both...if the discs are legit. :p

RS,Both are great shows that are highly recommended. Most of the Eva fans, had you not been considering Eva, would have suggested you buy Lain...if the discs are legit.

If the discs aren't legit, please follow my previous suggestion involving getting done to you what you are doing to the company.

well, i certainly wish i would've known that while i was renting them. i sat through the first half of that first one thinking "wth are they repeating everything from the last bit?!?" and then the first half of the second one thinking "*%& @&%$*@ @%$#@!!!"

Iwa, if you'll notice, I'm a big Eva fan but I suggested getting both...if the discs are legit.

yep, i noticed. i suppose i should've stated "most of the people into eva" many in this thread seem to have not seen both series.

At anime stores, which are rather rare. The nearest anime store is loaded with bootleg CDs, and posters. I think the DVDs are actually about two thirds real though. Also, if you buy from any of the Amazon sellers, it's probably a bootleg, same as E-bay.

I can also easilly imagine a comic book store selling them.

to be honest i do not know if its bootleg, but there is only 1 anime store in town and i dont have a credit card for the internet.. its the only place to buy anime... it is suspicous though, INCREDIBLY cheap, so it probally is bootleg...

(30 bucks for every episode of lain and 50 for every episode of evanglion plus movie, my friend said they imported it from japan and repackadged it... but i think he was just trying to sound like he knew what they did)

EDIT: though I would like to say again, it is literally the only anime store in possibly the intire county, and i do not know its bootleg, only suspect

You don't have a Best Buy? They sale anime. No credit card needed. I'm sure there are ways you can get legit anime. But that is obviously bootleg. So if you buy those, promptly follow my previous suggestions.

If it costs less than $100 dollars, and isn't published by ADV or Geneon/Pioneer...IT IS BOOTLEG! NO SUSPECTING ABOUT IT!

    Okay, five things here:

    1. It's a bootleg, pure and simple.

    2. Your friend has no clue what he's talking about. Japanese DVDs don't have english subtitles from all I know. And are also much more expensive than ours. And are also more DVDs per show.

    3. If you can't find an anime store in your area, go to a REAL store like a Suncost, a Bestbuy, an FYE, anything, and ask them to ship in a specific DVD for you. That way you can buy it without worrying about credit cards. I'm fairly sure that you can have them ship in a specific DVD on request. I can do this at Waldenbooks and Barnes and Noble, why not a DVD place? Also, why not give your parents the exact amount that would have been put on the credit card? A sort of exchange. It's how I work it with my parents.

    4. Use online stores such as Animenation and RightStuf to determine how a show is actually sold. Anything you find in an anime store, but not on these sites is most DEFINITALLY a bootleg.

    5. Do not trust anime stores. Do not trust anime stores. Do not trust anime stores.
