    1. Interview with the Vampire
    2. The Vampire Lestat
    3. Queen of the Damned
    4. The Witching Hour
    5. Tale of the Body Thief
    6. Lasher
    7. Taltos
    8. Memnoch the Devil
    9. Pandora
    10. The Vampire Armand
    11. Vittorio the Vampire

EDIT: I'm not sure where The Mummy goes on that list... I'd read it before you start The Witching Hour.

Aren't there some events described in Pandora that happen directly after Memnoch and before Armand, Merrick, etc.? I can't remember...

I just listed the books by publication date (except The Mummy) to be safe.

Thank you so much for listing those..now, I read on www.annerice.com that "tale of the body thief" was the 4th book in the v.c. so I should be reading Pandora first? And on the website it says that armand can be considered the 6th v.c. as well as the 2nd new tales of the vampire???? i am confused... so, amidala ....the above is the order you read them in? That is really helpful...thank you to everyone who answered I appreciate all your help! :)

"Vittorio" was actually the first Anne Rice book that I read. Aren't I naughty. [face_mischief] I thought it was a very good, if a little on the short side, novel. Although I did start to drift away from interest when she started going into angels and god and yada yada, I stuck it out and it got better.

I finished "Blood and Gold" recently, and I have to say she made me fall in love with Marius' character. [face_love] I wish they'd make a movie out of that - but then again, they'd probably screw it up. It's a long book, and they'd end up cutting out a lot of what makes him so interesting.

I'm not really concerned with the order I'm reading them in because I don't intend to read the entire series. Some of the books just don't interest me from the inside flap description.

I wanted to read the book "Pandora" - anyone think this is advisable or should I stay away?

*** Jumping into thread way late***

Greetings all... Just started reading Anne Rice before Christmas. REally enjoying her work. So far I have read The Vampire Lestat, Pandora, Blood and Gold, and The Vampire Armand. I know I should have started at interview, but what can I say... they were gifts. I'm looking forword to reading more of the female Vampires. Love to see a book come out about Maharet [spl] and her twin. I was amazed to see just how far off the movies have gone. I find that happens witha lot of writers though. So... Is the Mayfair Witch series any good or is it to much liked "Charmed" to bother?

I am an Anne Rice newbie... only seen the film "Interview with the Vampire".

Does Louis feature in any of the other novels?

Someone mentioned earlier about Lestat's maker... according to the film, he didn't know who this was... is it revealed in the books?

Which of all the books are directly related? Ie: Is "The Mummy" directly related to the Lestat novels, etc...

Louis appears in quite a few of the other books, though he really isn't a main character again until Merrick. But he is in The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, Tale of the Body Thief, and Memnoch: The Devil. Somebody might wish to double check me on some of those.

Someone mentioned earlier about Lestat's maker... according to the film, he didn't know who this was... is it revealed in the books?

Lestat knew who it was that made him, but not very much about him. Lestat's maker was a Paris vampire named Magnus. Magnus was an outcast among the Paris vampires partly because he wasn't a part of the coven and also because he had stolen the Dark Gift.

Which of all the books are directly related? Ie: Is "The Mummy" directly related to the Lestat novels, etc...

All of the books that carry the sub-title "The Vampire Chronicles" are related. There are also a couple of books under the "New Tales of the Vampires" category which are stand alone histories of other vampires.

The Mummy is not related to any of the vampire novels, though the mummy Ramses is named in one of the vampire books. That's about it, though. The Witching Hour, Taltos, and Lasher are also separate stories concerning the Mayfair witches. Anne Rice has recently done a couple of crossovers between the vampire novels and the Mayfair witches novels, but none of the three I just mentioned are related to the vampire books.

Some more newbie questions (thanks for your previous answers!)

Is Merrick set after Interview with the Vampire?

Are any of the novels set in present day?

Merrick is the second most recent book, Blackwood Farm being the most recent.

The Vampire Chronicles are a sequential series and each new one is set in the present day (aside from histories and flashbacks).

So far the New Tales of the Vampires books have been "written" in present day but deal with the histories of certain vampires rather than modern day events.

Hell everyone. *apologizes for also jumping into the thread late*

I tend to have a love/hate relationship when it comes to Anne Rice novels...I love her characters and she can set a good scene. :)

My first was Queen of the Damned, after that I started reading the vampire Armand & Interview with the Vampire...Personal favorites were Pandora & Queen of the Damned.

I just finished Blood and Gold a few weeks ago...In all honesty, I thought it was one of the worst of her novels that I've read. (Never read the porn books, or, sadly, the witches ones, though I want very badly to read those) I didn't like how she introduced Thorne only to occupy about 30-40 chapters with Marius...Not that I don't like Marius (I do), but it seems absurd to introduce a new character purely for the purpose of listening to Marius for about 3/4ths of the book. And the ending...:( I won't spoil but I found it quite the dissapointment...

I think another problem is that she constantly brings up the past books, in particular, Queen of the Damned. After awhile I more or less felt that she was shoving it down our throats for the benefit of those who had only seen the movie to convince us that her book was the way things "really happened". >_<

Another problem is it's hard to get into, as a lot of the earlier plot is, again, covered by the other books; in particular, Pandora. Once he moves out it gets interesting, though.

Overall, a very uneven novel though. Has anyone read Blackberry Farm yet? I read the little except in the back of Blood and Gold, and it sounded quite interesting...Is it worth buying?

Anne Rice :) Yay. Personally I don't like her that much. I read a few books and they are interesting but a bit long winded.

I wonder, has anyone read books written by her sister? I can't remember her name, but she wrote a few books about people who turn into wolves (not werewolves) who fight Romans or other invaders. I liked it, but she's also a bit long winded.

    Hi.

I'm heading down to New Orleans next weekend. I know that you can go by Anne Rice's house but is there anything you guys might suggest to take in as fans of her works?

I have read the first three books, but it was many years ago, and I don't remember a lot of details. I'm a fan of the Interview film, but it doesn't make a lot of references to places in New Orleans in particular that might be worth visiting.

Any thoughts? The Anne Rice Appreciation tour of New Orleans?

I plan to drink Chartreuse on Bourbon St as a nod to Poppy Z. Brite.

Did anyone else hear the news???
Anne Rice has a new book coming out in October 2003 that will be the very last of the Vampires and Witches.
I got my info here http://annerice.com/ph20030114.htm
I saw no mention of it, so I thought I'd pass it along to other Rice fans.
What are your thoughts on this??
Myself, I'm sad to see it go, but glad there will be some ending or closure to it all. No more wondering 'What If...'

Last I heard Anne Rice no longer gives tours of her home.
