I thought it was a very Star Wars scene. Ewan shines in it. I love it.

the whole scene felt sooooo unStarWars to me.

It was in a Star Wars film, so saying that it is un-Star Wars is contradictory.

You know, I'm getting tired of bashers looking at a Star Wars movie and saying crap like, "Gee, this just doesn't look like Star Wars." Just admit that you're pissed that Lucas hasn't hired you as his personal creative consultant and get over it.

Once it is in Star Wars... it is Star Wars. Now we may not always like it (Jar Jar for example), but it becomes StarWarsy once it is found in a Star Wars movie.

If you want to get rid of the Diner Scene you better get rid of the Trash Compactor in ANH. I hear that they have those things on Earth as well. ;)

And don't forget to excise Han's 70's jive talk:

    Leia: They're tracking us.
    Han: Not this ship, sister!

I think it's just a knee-jerk reaction. Many of us got pretty weary of some people's constant bitching about TPM, so our defenses are on high alert this time around.

King Louie,I agree with you, that scene didn't feel like Star Wars to me. I doubt it felt like Star Wars to anyone who was around to see the OT in the 70's and 80's.

    LOL, Luke_Clone and Durwood. [face_laugh]
I don't know how anyone can say Dex's dinner isn't SW.
Dex is in Star Wars, Obi Wan is in Star Wars, Dex and Obi Wan are in Star Wars. Therefore, they are Star Wars.
If you say the dinner wasn't SW, then why don't you chuck the cantina in ANH, Luke's haircut, the Hoth snow, and the forests of Endor? I mean yeah, we have 'em here in the *real* world, so they can't be SW either.
Ah well. To each his own.
Dex is still cool, and Obi is always cool. ;)

No sweat. :) I just wanted to point out that there were other "earth locales" used in Star Wars. I can understand your POV, but if you are going to point that out I think you have to admit that there are other thing straight out of our planet.

I mean, those rebels, tsk tsk, using all of those German WW2 weaponry... what are they thinking? :)

The "Diner" scene was 100% pathetic, and "un-George-like" to me.

at least with the desert and the swamp an effort was made to make the buidings look alien and not just like some diner on the corner. ice, sand, rocks, and water are all basic elements on any planet. since when are diners? especially 50s diners. at least make it look like its a diner in another galaxy.

the cantina doesnt look like an earth bar, it looks like a bar you might see in a galaxy far, far away.

the buildings on tatooine look alien, unique.

yodas house in ESB and ROTJ is not earthly, it has a unique look as well.

the diner looks like a diner in new york or chicago or anywhere. and we get skyscrapers and traffic jams, just like many of us can see by looking out the window.

i also had a problem with the night club. it looked like a scene from battlestar galactica. what happened to imagination?

i know GL used a desert, a swamp, an ice field, and a forest. but within these natural locales there were unearthly situations, and imaginative architecture etc.

now we get a city with flashing neon lights, signs, and a diner and a waitress with FLO on her name tag and WEVE SEEN IT SO MANY TIMES. bladerunner, 5th element, metropolis, minority report, to name a few. what happened to transporting us AWAY from earth?

yes weve seen scenes set in forests before, but where else have we seen a high-speed speederbike chase like the one in ROTJ?

weve seen snow but where else have we seen a battle like the one which took place on hoth?

in AOTC we get a big city car chase and a nightclub much like any we have seen on earth and a diner made to look like your typical 50s diner. not very imaginative if you ask me.

when GL had to create a city before he put it in the clouds, and it looked nothing like any city we have seen.

when he needed to create suburbs/a farm, he gave us the lars homestead, not like any house ive ever seen.

now we get a plain old run-of-the-mill seen it before "future" city.

are you starting to get where im coming from?

i hope the next movie has a 7-11 and a gas station so you can all be happy about that too. im surprised there werent ads for pepsi and mcdonalds. (biting my tounge in fear of it coming true)

you see the city and the diner and you come right back to earth and forget all about that galaxy a long time ago, far, far, away.

at least thats the way it felt to me.

    Jul 02 - "exstremly" [face_plain]

Making fun of someone because they are new and made a couple spelling errors in one of their first posts is more - [face_plain] - than anything else. Yeah. You know who you are. You were new here once too. Grow up. [face_plain] //end rant

Anyway, KingLouie, I really liked the scene. Probably because it was something we hadn't seen in Star Wars before. Plus I thought Dexter was a cool and witty new character. It seemed quite believable that he and Obi-Wan were old buddies. Just thought I'd stick up for ya and add my 2 cents. :)

"Now, where was I...?" ?[face_plain] -Lenny

    Firstly it's "Dex" not DAX

That scene is awesome! I never felt Dexter was CG because of the good direction and acting. Dexter's voice is so perfect! Like when he says "Obi-wan" And then that Obi-wan smile ?Hello Dex? sweet :) You can actually feel two old friends meeting. Nice. I loved the scene since I saw it the first time. :)

I found it interesting... reminds me a bit of Tatooine Cantina...

But what exactly did Dex mean by "how big your... pocketbook is... ehehe..."?
It didn't seem that the Kaminoans cared at all about money, not to mention being outside of the republic - they shouldn't even have any value in republic credits!

Obi Wan sounded a bit unhappy to see Dex, but had a smile of gold nonetheless
