Moontygr, I have to agree with you on this one. I can not go to Dallas to see AOTC on the IMAX screen. Houston is the 4th largest city, yet when was the last time we had a successful scifi con of any kind? We won't get AOTC and it's unfortunate. Unfortunately, this time the stupid and ignorant side clouds it all.

EDIT - I just spoke with Moody Gardens in Galveston. They will be getting the Imax screening. Lucas Films has asked the local fanforces to help promote this. I'm currently speaking with the officers about what we might do, but thought I'd go ahead and post the good news.

Excellent! I was worried Dallas would be the only Texas IMAX on board!

    Looking forward to this :D

This is awesome news. I just checked the moody gardens website and it shows it being on there, but it looks like you have to buy a 30 dollar day pass to see it. At least we can see it close on a big screen. By the way does anyone know how many seats that theater down there holds?

well, it looks like i'm in the minority on this one (which is fine), but why is everyone so excited about seeing this substandard version of the movie we are all such big fans of? first, they cut 20 or so minutes out, then we hear it may be a pan/scan version, and now it looks like you may have to pay $30 just to see this thing! i'm sorry, but you guys come off as a little desperate when these things make no difference to you. i'm starting to think they should advertise this as a bonus. "ALL NEW, NEVER BEFORE SEEN VERSION WITH OVER 20 MINUTES OF THE ORIGINAL SCENES DELETED, PRESENTED IN 1.4:1 NARROWSCREEN, NON-DIGITAL PROJECTION AND FINALLY, PAY THREE TIMES AS MUCH FOR A TICKET!!!" as i have said before, why didn't they simply cut the film in half so the imax system could handle the footage length? if they had done this, i would be there opening night (assuming the ticket isn't $30).

hey, i just checked with the imax in galveston, and they said that to run on their equipment properly, they had to cut an additional 35 minutes from the film, but assured me people would still come to see it... because their screen is really big.

My Imax contacts tell me that Galveston is getting a bunch of all-new equipment to run AOTC and they will be able to run the standard Imax release.

I personally commend Moody Gardens for their foresight in upgrading for AOTC and the many other feature films that will soon be released in Imax.

The standard Imax release is with 20 minutes cut right or did I miss something. I think DECO_DROID was just joking when he said there was an additional 35 minutes cut out. I personally thought the comment about it still being a big screen was great.

I don't like the fact that they are cutting anything but some of the dialogue with Anakin & Padme at the Lake Retreat was just awful imo (cut away here please).

Overall I have to agree with some of Deco_Droid's points. It seems like we can't get a break here. First no Imax and no Imax for highway robbery. It's ridiculous that you could drive to Dallas, watch the movie, and come back, for a little more. I guess the $30 price was the result of negotiations with Lucas films. Here's my interpretation of the their talks- Ok fine we'll let you have the Imax film in Galveston but you must charge a small service fee of only $30 to show it. I know that is a little pessimistic view but why is it that price here and no where else?

Guys, next time please do some research before you start complaining.

From the Moody Gardens website, IMAX ticket prices are $8.95 General Admission, $5.95 for children 4-12, and $6.95 for Senior Citizens 65+

To corroborate the information, I also called their info line, and they told me the same information. No fee for parking, so you're not going to spend an exorbitant amount to catch AOTC on IMAX...sweet! :D

The $30 price is for a day pass, which includes access to many of the park's attractions, and includes one IMAX ticket.

If you haven't been to Moody Gardens, you might want to make a day of it and get the day pass...sounds like a cool place

    Thanks,
    Brian

why see AOTC in IMAX...2 words...
    YODA BIG!!!

the 8.95 ticket price is reasonable considering that the edwards GIANT screene charges $10

the $30 day pass is a tremendous value considering that tickets for individual attractions start at like 7 bucks & go up.

I will defintely buy a day pass so that I can see the film. A few years ago I drove all the way to galveston so I could watch the Special Effects film and see a star destroyer in the largest way possible.

I spoke with the manager of the Imax theater at Moody and he said they would be getting the equipment in to show it properly, so, no, there will be no need to cut another 35 minutes out of it.

We are going to have a great night Nov. 1st at Moody Gardens! The showtime is set for 8:20pm, but the fun will start to begin at about 7pm. At 7:30pm we will hold a Star Wars costume contest, followed by a charity raffle benefiting the Disabled Survivors Association. If you have a Star Wars outfit, or even just a Star Wars t-shirt make sure to wear it! We will all be meeting up in the Garden lobby adjacent to the IMAX theatre. If you don't know where exactly that might be just be on the look out for some Stormtroopers from the 501st Star Garrison.

Remember to come early to make sure you have a ticket to see AOTC.

Is there going to be a midnight screening on Halloween? One of my friends told me he heard it but wasn't sure. I'm going to to try to go on the 1st that should be great. I'll bring my Anakin FX lightsaber. That's the only costume thing I have.
