Maurice certainly didn't have that dialect that the Orangutan in this movie has; in fact, I don't recall how much he spoke at all; mostly sign language.

I never finished the newish trilogy… just the first one, and parts of the second. Overall how do people rate it?

Not as good as Prince of Egypt, but fixed some of the mistakes of The Ten Commandments. A good live action alternative.

First one is good, if you ignore all the non-family human characters being cartoons.

Second one is legit good. Third is even better.

Yeah, the trilogy is very highly rated. First one is the weakest by a mile, second I like a lot, and the last one is very, very good, and I’m a harsh critic.

Im excited for this movie, i quite liked the Trilogy. This is also Freya Allen big role as lead actress. Her other big project is The Witcher. Freya Allen and Anya Chalotra getting into big roles now.

Exactly, yes. Rise was decent, but not great. Dawn was great and War was even better.

I'm surprised these are still going, I hope this will be as good as the previous instalments but I'm not sure since Matt Reeves has moved on to doing The Batman.

It'll be interesting to see how they move on without Caesar; he was an excellent protagonist. Knowing now when it's set, and that that also means that we won't see Caesar's immediate family or Maurice either, will just add to that. But I'm hopeful / expecting it to be good.

I predict this film will involve some chimps discovering evidence of advanced human civilisation, the orangutans try to cover it up, film ends with Taylor crashing to 'Earth'.

So then we'll get Planet of the Planet of the Apes?

It would be interesting if we event got a (much better) Planet of the Apes remake but using franchise logic, Taylor wouldn't crash until the closing minutes of the 3rd movie of this series, setting up another Trilogy

They'll show Taylor fall to his knees on the beach, but just as the camera pans it'll cut to black before showing the Statue of Liberty. That'll be revealed at the start of the next movie three years later.

Yes, that's entirely the problem. In the first film, you saw a connection between biology, social organization, and their emergent philosophies. In the latter films, it literally could have just been guys in monkey suits, or any generic Star Wars/Star Trek alien costume. Their body plan was not Homo sapien, but there was almost nothing that was distinguished their way of interacting with the world as specifically inherited from the great apes of Earth. That's a huge disappointment. I would much prefer that a series that is specifically called "Planet of the Apes" explore things about apes.

So you’re saying it went from mildly interesting science fiction to much more interesting historical allegory?

The Apes actions and body movement do become more human by the time the original Planet of the Apes happens so that tracks they become more evolved as humans devolve

There are a thousand pieces of fiction that use elves or aliens or unicorns or sea monsters as thin stand-ins for indingenous peoples/racial/ethnic minorities/etc. That is one of the most painfully obvious directions to go. Some of these are well-written and some are not. Some are thoughtful. But it makes little sense for you to pretend that abandoning the one point of uniqueness we have here is somehow an unalloyed good, especially when it was not mutually exclusive of the other points you like exploring more.

This wasn't a zero sum game and we're not baking pie. It was and is perfectly possible to explore the mistreatment of marginalized groups and try to explore the unique features of great apes. Taking away the latter didn't do anything to enrich the former. It just made the whole enterprise less ambitious.

I feel your indignation, but in the end, the second and third films are simply much better on an artistic and narrative level. And exploring the unique characteristics of great apes is a worthwhile endeavor. There are just better ways of doing that than in a "Planet of the Apes" format...

I liked the first one (in this run) but I really didn't like the last 2 and this looks like more of the same.
