I am an amature at this and only starting my jedi costume. Personally I do not like general light colours most Jedi costumes consist of. Also I don't want to replicate Luke's ROTJ costume or Anakin's AOTC costume.

So what are my choices for appropriate colours. I want it to be dark because that is the mood of the character (Think Wolverine as a Jedi).

I am thinking a lot of leather but that will become expensive.

    Any help?

Humm well some of the Jedi Council wear Dark colors. (Browns, deep blues, Greens.)
I have a forrest green tunics.

Not all of them wear the cream and white tunics, each Jedi's tunics they did themselves, but with earthtones.

I may do my own version of Anakin's outfit but not a "dark" atitude.

Pretty well any earth tone works Jymm. There are the extremes from cream to Deep brown almost black, and all in between. If you look at each Jedi in the PT they have pretty well the light browns.

    Be creative though :)

As for Wolverine as a Jedi? YIKES!!

Butler Swan had a pale green over tunic. Jocosata Nu had a yellow/gold, color almost a mustard color. So it's not JUST browns.
It can range from White, great(Anakin's under tunic'appears' a grey color), cream brown, black, for under tunics.

Over tunic colors run from pale and dark greens, creams, white, browns(From tans all the way to a deep dark chocoalte., yellows, black(ROTJ), Even some Jedi in the books I think wore blues for certain divisions.

Pants also run a gammit of colors from white all through the spectrum to black.

Boots: same here. leather in various browns or black, even some SUEAD ones that are reminisant of Robin Hood or a Rennie.(Ki Adi Mundi's footwear).

I suggest grabbing all the Star Wars Visual Dictionaries, study the pictures. Use them as a template for costume ideas. I did that. Not all of them are the same except for the over robes being brown and they carry Lightsabres.

Yes, but, if you are a Jedi Knight or above, you can wear all colors! And there IS NO RESTRICTION TO BROWN ROBES!!!

I am designing a costume that is completely original. It is colored red and black, WITH A BLACK ROBE!!!!! And, I am A JEDI!!!!! But I am a Jedi Master, so that means I can get away with my costume choice.

I hate it when people stereotype a Jedi with an Earth Tone wearing loser with no sense of creativity. Just one of my many pet peeves.

And, don't be an Obi-Wan's Costume Copycat freak, unless you are creating an Obi-Wan Costume, which you obviously aren't. Another one of my pet peeves.

But, if you want to be average, and follow the ways of the norm, go ahead!

But remember, IT'S YOUR COSTUME!!!!!! Do whatever you want with it!!!!

Jauhzmynn- Yellow is still an earth tone ;) But yeah there is a vast array of colours, but what I did say they have pretty well the light browns. Wasn't saying they ALL have those colours though.

Kev Mas- I don't think the costume has to do with your rank. It was never stated in any film, and Visual dictionaries are 90% made up off the writers head.

The costume Obi-Wan has is the basic template that many of the Jedi uses, take a look at each of them. Mace, Qui-Gon, Anakin, Adi Gallia, even Jocasta has the basic template that most Jedi have. There are a few different ones, but the basic fact is that there is a few designs but they all inhibit the same things, tabbards, inner tunics etc.

Also remember, if you want a Jedi costume that is easily recognisable then just alter the basic outfit to your wants and needs.

    Have fun with it! :)

Check some SW comics, too if you want, there are all types of variations with Jedi outifts, and color choices.

Also, Corellian Jedi have a tendency to have green incorporated in their outifts.

Ylenic It'Kla, a Caamassi Jedi, once had a blue outift if I remember "I, Jedi" correctly. It's totally up to you. Have fun with it.

It all depends on how recognizable as a Jedi you want to be. If you don't care, then let creativity run rampant.

However, even the general con-going public doesn't recognize some canon (the films), Jedi garb. I was at Westercon, a major regional Convention, wearing my Jocasta Nu replica garb, and someone thought I was a Klingon!

So if you make something completely out of your own head, please don't get annoyed if people constantly ask you what you're supposed to be. But if you're OK with only you knowing you're wearing Jedi clothes, then fine...wear black and red or whatever.

*L* "Yellow" is a primary color, not an earth tone. You can dirty up any color and make it more or less neutral, though. A brownish yellow could be considered earth tone by some people. I think that's what you meant. :)

I do agree that people's costumes can be whatever color they want. However, if you make a bright blue and black set of robes with a "Ravenclaw" badge and call yourself a Hogwarts Jedi, then don't expect people to know what the heck you are or even appreciate your creativity or the work that went in to your costume. That's just a sad fact of life. Most people know what a Jedi is if he's wearing something that looks like one of the main characters.

A good idea, if you want to stay recognizable as a Jedi but you want to be creative, is to only be creative with EITHER the color or the style. For instance, my costume is changed from the Obi-Wan/Mace/etc. style, but I kept the color traditional, so it's still easy to tell what it is. If you use a "non-traditional" color, then keep the style "traditional". If you use a "non-traditional" style, then keep the color "traditional". By "traditional", I just mean the style that most movie-goers and fans are used to seeing, which basically means Obi-Wan/Mace/etc.

I am planning a version of Boba Fett from some very early drawings. The color is mostly white, and the armor and some parts are different. I want to make it because I think it will be fun, and I will really like it. I don't expect more than one or two other people to even know what it is from, though. Most Fett fans may recognize the white, but they will think I just "messed up" some of the armor, rather than designing something from a piece of concept art. Does it bother me? No, not at this point. I'm still going to have fun and make it for myself.

Yup thats what I meant :)

I agree with everything said, theres a reason theres only like 3 (correct me if I am wrong) unique Jedi in AOTC, Aayla and the Luminari. Without their presence in the arena and holding lightsabers would you ever know they were Jedi?

    That's a good idea Stubbzilla.

A good 'mantra' to use. (Forgive the use of that word, it seems to fit.:).)

I do have some styles that look like Ki Adi Mundi's but in tans and creams. Now where to host the pics.:)

Ya' know I think we ALL are saying the SAME thing from differant vantage points. Bascially have fun, but keep it Jedi recognisable. :)

I would suggest greens and browns, they go together well. Dark chestnut or dark red, depending ion the shade, are pretty good to.

Actually I have been inspired by the TV spot for the new KOTOR game to design a costume of a more classical age. Lots of leather...expensive but I could also pass for a LOTR character if I so wish. ;)

It did looka bit strange. I had been looking for other types of clasps to hold my cloak on.
