Consider that Sidious is more powerful than anyone except two people in the entire galaxy and that Dooku was already a powerful Jedi Master before he fell to the Dark Side. Sidious is also said to be the most powerful Sith in history, so it makes sense for him to be that much more powerful. Dooku already was powerful and the quick and easy power of the Dark Side on top of that boosts it.

Also think about the fact that many in the Order as it was in ROTS could probably have beaten Maul.

    No..not more powerful.

They are easier..more seductive... I'll stop now before I paint the Sith as people of loose intimacy morals. XD

Here's an explaination of why the Sith are so powerful in the movie:

Sidious - Dark Lord of the Sith = Super Powerful

Maul - Trained for over 25 years by the Dark Lord of the Sith

Tyrannus - Trained over 60 years as a Jedi, became one of the greatest, then another 10 by the Dark Lord

Grievous (not Sith but meh) - Already a fierce warrior, then trained by Tyrannus and upgraded to kill Jedi

Vader - The Chosen One, spent 13 years becoming a powerful Jedi then converted by the Dark Lord

it is all about believing the lie! But at the same time watch how quickly Ani came up in the ranks. It took decades to what he could do in years!

The individual Sith Lords may be more powerful than the average Jedi, but that is because they have to take great care selecting apprentices to make the order survive. I mean, if Trebor Coleman or whatever his name was approached Palpatine wanting to be his apprentice, Palpatine would have just killed him. Palpatine didn't even think DOOKU or SUITED VADER to really be good enough to be THE Sith Apprentice. Those are some pretty high standards. The Jedi, because they don't all try to kill each other, can just keep recuiting force sensitives and have tons of them laying around. Sure, they may be weak but they probably can handle an average mission.

LUKE: Vader. Is the dark side stronger?

YODA: No...no...no. Quicker, easier, more seductive.

LUKE: But how am I to know the good side from the bad?

YODA: You will know. When you are calm, at peace. Passive. A Jedi uses
the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack.

-ESB: I think that answers the question pretty well.

Yeah, I think that there's many ways to look at that especially when you consider all the different definitions of power, and that the Sith definition would IMO lean far more to "I have more painful ways to kill you thus, I have greater power."

I agree though it has to be set up to work along with that Lucas quote.

The Sith are stronger than the Jedi because Lucas said "the dark side is more powerful". That doesn't mean the Sith can't be defeated, but they are using the stronger side of the Force. The reason why the Sith were initially wiped out by the Jedi wasn't because the Jedi were as strong as the Sith. It was mainly because of infighting and disloyalty among the Siths. Many of them killed each other in an attempt to become the most powerful.

They're stronger in a physical sense which is what Lucas meant given that the context is Anakin saying someday he'll be the most powerful Jedi ever. However given that he has also said that the Dark Side will destroy you in the end I think it's debateable if that's true power or just an incredibly fleeting illusion of it.

Yes, I think so too. In the films we don't see the Sith as stronger than the Jedi. The Jedi can defeat the strongest of the Sith, as the sith can defeat the strongest of the Jedi. It seems more individual. But the darkside is easier and faster, so it will take you shorter time to become very powerful as a sith, and longer if you're a Jedi. However, the Jedi will in his due time have more knowledge and patience than the more hasty powers of the Sith. That's why I think we see the experienced Jedi are at least as good as the Sith. Mace and Yoda serves as good examples I think. Also that OBW was able to defeat Anakin is proof of that.

IMO it's very much about quality over quantity. The Sith are only two and the Master choses only the very best as his apprentice and trains him especially to fight Jedi. Emphasizing on aggressive Force powers and offensive lightsaber-skills meant to fight someone with a lightsaber.
The Jedi on the other hand are so many (because they need to be many) so many of them have not got that exeptional talent and are not trained by the best and they focus not only on fighting, but on teaching morality, non-aggressive Force-powers and meditation. And most of them are trained defeat ordinary enemies with blasters not lightsaber vs lightsaber.
But the very best of the Jedi can match the Sith of course.

I agree with the last post and we have to keep in perspective that
what we have seen in the PT has not been a real consistent showing of jedi more powerful than sith or vice versa. We know the counsel
members didn't live up to expectations, but Yoda, Mace, Obi wan all
went toe to toe with powerful Sith Lords who could have wiped out and most did off camera , hundreds of jedi.

Palpatine showed how powerful a Sith Lord can be. Darth Maul or Count Dooku didn't really impress me. The only time the best Jedi matched up with the best Sith, it was Palpatine vs. Yoda. Count Dooku beat Anakin once but also lost to him. Maul had all types of problems with both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan on an 1 on 1 basis. So, with that said, the Sith are nothing.

The Sith are nothing? there was just 2 of them and they took over the galaxy. Maul aside, Dooku was for real, went toe to toe with Yoda after taking out Anakin and Kenobi. Dooku was more than a match for any jedi, except Anakin of ROTS, and Yoda possibly.

i have to go both ways on this. i mean there were over 200 jedi and 2 sith were able to destroy them. but the sith were weakminded and GAVE IN to the seduction of the darkside. and the dark side eventually destroys you anyway. but still.. light came on top.

Are the Sith, on average and taken as a whole order, better warriors than the Jedi?

    Definately Yes.

Are the Sith more POWERFUL than the Jedi?

In 300 pages people will still be arguing that one in this thread, it's far too subjective.

I meant in terms of power against the most formiddible Jedi. They stayed hidden until a Sith Lord was powerful enough to bring them back in to prominence. But they took over the galaxy due to coercion and deceit.

The three dead Jedi in Sidious' office speak volumes. Those were three JEDI MASTERS!
They were known for their saber combat. Even in Palpatine lost to Mace, he beat three out of four.

In the comic book JEDI VS SITH , Darth Bane explains that , to become stronger the Dark Side must be concentrated in one or possibly two persons (that´s why the rule of Two was created). When the Light side is fully concentrated in one person (Obi in Rots , Luke in Rotj) , this person becomes much stronger in the light side .

    agreed

Dooku was losing to Yoda signifigantly and in the end had to run. The master Sith also lost and got drop kicked by one of the top Jedi.

Dooku was not losing to Yoda, and he had just fought Anakin and Kenobi and took them both out with ease, don't tell you don't think they are top jedi. He had to be tired, it even says he was in the book and looked in the movie. And Mace only got to do that b/c Palpatine did not try to kill him immediatly, was waiting for Anakin.

Point 1: Obi-Wan and Anakin are definitely top tier Jedi in Episode 3. In Episode 2 Anakin is skilled but doesn't have the experience he gains in the Clone Wars and at this point I don't think I'd classify Anakin as top tier yet and Obi-Wan I would but Dooku trained his master so he has a special advantage against Obi-Wan that he wouldn't have against Mace. Dooku also was losing to Yoda as shown by the fact that Dooku couldn't match Yoda with the Force and when it came to sabers Dooku fled and brought down that pillar knowing that Yoda would save Obi-Wan and Anakin.

Point 2: Lucas himself has said that Mace over powered Sidious and it's far from proven that Sidious was waiting for Anakin. Palpatine only started faking when Mace had already kicked him to the ground and Anakin had already entered.

?This shot where (pause) Anakin walks through that little anti chamber one of my favourite shots cos? the whole thing is a matte painting. Ok, well this sequence always started out with Mace uh overpowering Palpatine and then Palpatine using his powers to try to destroy Mace and Mace deflecting his rays with his lightsaber. It always was that Anakin cut the lightsaber out of his hand. But this part where he pretends to lose his power and be weak was something that I added later cos? this is it moved the point where Anakin turns down to this moment right here and you can see that he?s now that its very clear that he?s, he wants him to go on trial so he can pump him for information about how to get these powers? - GL DVD Commentary

Thus the only part where Sidious was faking was when he was pretending he was out of Force Lightning where in actuality Mace could have kept reflecting it until Sidious was no more as unlike with Yoda in this fight Sidious didn't have the size advantage and terrain advantage being as the only reason he walked away from Yoda is that the pod Yoda grabbed had no bar and the one Sidious grabbed did.

Well yoda trained Dooku so i guess he has an advantage over him, even though they were equal in force powers, i don't what would make you think Dooku could not match him, Yoda did not touch him, once or knock him back.. And After seeing the power that Sidious could wield with the force against Yoda with the Senate pods, and the lighting knocking Yoda's saber and him down, i think he could have taken Mace out very quickly, and from what i have seen Dooku could more than match with Mace in a saber fight, i know its EU but they did duel in there. And it is also debatable whether that lighting was hurting him at all, he was clearly faking, and then all of sudden after he got what he was WAITING for, he had full power. In an interview last year Star Wars Insider, Ian said he thought that Sidious's face was actually his real face.
