Oh man, I actually remember that guy from a Star Wars magazine I got way back.

He was supposed to be the architect of the Clone Wars. He and his "Clone Army" were waiting in the wings, ready to pounce on the Empire and the Rebels when the time was right.

    I still can't believe I remember that. :p

It all worked out for the best though. Can you imagine the continuity whinings we would have heard over that? :D

It was a story created by Kenner to push a post-ROTJ line. Atha had a smaller ship that would attach to a larger one, as I recall.

I believe it also involved Grand Moff Tarkin somehow surviving the DS1 as well (thank god...).

Atha Prime himself had his designed recycled into the Imperial Sentinels guarding Palpatine on Byss in Dark Empire. He also got an action figure out of that as well ::)

Everything you could want to know about Atha Prime and related products.

A powerful force long kept in exile in a remote fringe of the galaxy has been released by the death of the Emperor. It moves now, like a plague, securing control over the shattered remnants of the empire and re-enslaving newly freed worlds. Atha Prime, genetics master, ruler of the dark worlds and architect of the Clone Wars, is free again. His advanced army of combat clones has already decimated rebel outposts along the galactic frontier. His goal is to crush forever the Rebel Alliance and control the Galaxy.

I'd like to see this inserted into continuity somehow. Not in it's exact form, but in heavly modified for that still goes along with the idea.

Atha could be just one of the many Warlords the Rebellion had to deal with.

In theory you could actually made everything work. He could have helped Pal with the Clone War and such. Very interesting stuff.

What were those Sentinels in Dark Empire, and how are they explained when Kanos says they flocked to Byss upon hearing the Emp had returned?

I'd always assumed that the Imperial Sentinels were genetically "beefed-up" humans/humanoids. Then again, there was the theory that they were droids.

Coincidentally, I did know that their design came from old concept art of Atha Prime.

Atha Prime is mentioned in the Fact Files articles. He has a hand in the events of the Betrayal comic.

What were those Sentinels in Dark Empire, and how are they explained when Kanos says they flocked to Byss upon hearing the Emp had returned?
[/blockquote]
From page 67 in that great evergreen resource, the Dark Empire Sourcebook:

    [blockquote]Imperial Sentinels

These mute titans are the subject of endless talk among those at the court; their origin is unknown. While obviously inhuman, their intricately wrapped bodies and draping garments are something out of a forgotten legend.

Even the Imperial Sovereign Protectors have no idea, nor real interest, in their origin. An outsider might assume some confusion would occur as to responsibilities, but no interference ever occurs because nothing is done without the Emperor's direct order. Ordinarily, the Sentinels function primarily as guardians for the Dark Side Adepts that do the Emperor's bidding.

The first Sentinels appeared, typically, without any explanation, at the scene of a battle where a few Jedi had been captured. Bearing cryptic but authentic datachips, they assumed complete control over the disposition of a particular prisoner. Escorting him back on a dungeon ship, they formed a sort of praetorian guard for Ashka Boda as he journeyed to Coruscant and his doom.

As in the case of the Imperial Grand Vizier, idle rumor and speculation sprung up to answer questions not asked aloud. Some suggest the Sentinels are from some captured race of giants, enslaved to serve the Emperor. Some believe the Sentinels are immense droids or cyborgs. Still others whisper the Dark Side Adepts are somehow behind these aberrations. Little do these whisperers realize just how close to the truth they may be.

The Sentinels are clones, mutated by the Dark Side Adepts as part of their training. During the growth cycle, odd chemicals that suppress the growth of higher brain functions are introduced. Simultaneously, the Adepts attempt to form a mental link to them. If the process is successful, the Sentinels end up as automatons: living statues dependent on the will of the Adepts themselves for purpose or movement. If the process is unsuccessful, the living monstrosities are disposed of.

For the duration of the wretched being's existence, it is the slave of the Dark Side Adept, knowing no other will than the Adept's.[/blockquote]

Thanks for that! So, what's the background behind the Imperial Sovereign Protectors, so seem to have taken the Royal Guardmens' place, yet Kanos still said in CE they flocked to Byss?

The Sovereign Guards ARE Royal Guardsmen, they are just the elite of the elite. They are Royal Guards who are sensitive to the Force.

What role did Atha Prime play in Betrayal? Was he portrayed as part of the Empire? Is he a clone himself? Is he Force-sensitive?

I have not seen that Fact Files card, but I'd venture he was the cloner behind the "drones" Grand Moff Trachta used.

    Aren't all Royal Guards Force-sensitive?

I wrote that FF card on Trachta, with the Atha Prime ref. It's likely Atha will get some more action in the near future. Keep your eyes peeled.

Excellent news! But, the real question is where Tarkin's been hiding since his escape on the DS. :D

So let me get this straight . . . Atha Prime, as far as the aborted Kenner series, is lostworlds. but the concept of Atha Prime has crossed over into the main SW timeline?

Apparantly. I'd wager that Antha Prime had something to do with the Soveriegn Protectors as well. ;)

But what buisness, exactly, did Trachta have with Antha Prime?

I assume Kir Kanos was just a run of the mill Royal Guardsman, not a Sovereign Protector?

I suppose the chances are nil that Atha isn't that enemy from the Dark Nest trilogy, is he?

Chances that Atha is the enemy from DN--0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%. I'll give you that small percentage because, as we all know, stranger things have happened with the Star Wars storyline.
