I heard the opposite about Iroh's name but I can't claim to know the first thing about Chinese pronunciation, so the only one I can strongly hold forth on is "avatar" itself. That's interesting about the poster though, and that wouldn't surprise me -- given what we know about how good the Chinese was on all the written materials because they hired a scholar.

I mean, we're on a Star Wars forum so we can talk about how the pronunciation of Coruscant changed in TPM and we all went with it, or how the name Leia is pronounced different ways within ANH and we all went with it.

"It's always been this way" seems like a thin defense to me.

My main point is that there are a lot of criticisms about the film that are valid, but if the pronunciation was authentic (again, if, see Mar's response above) I don't think it's something that ought to be held against the film.

On the other hand, the opening narration with the elements is complete nonsense in the film because apparently the Chinese characters they use are gibberish and they couldn't even be bothered to just copy the correct Chinese characters from the cartoon....

It will bee some time before we see these projects, probarly in 3-4 years. As they just made their own studio and it takes time. This is good as it meanst the IP gets the highest quality.
