Yeah, just because Wan's memories were clad in a different art style, doesn't mean they're any less reliable. It's merely an artistic choice, I don't think it has any in-universe relevance.

As Coruscant pointed out, there's actually precedent for a stylistic shift to indicate unreliable narration. It's the only other circumstance we've seen it happen. Sure, you could also argue that they just wanted to evoke an old timey feel, but I don't think drawing significance from the change in style is that out there.

Just saying that I tossed around that idea over a month ago. That's all. :p

But it's simply not likely to be true. Unlike in that case, the producers have made multiple public statements detailing their reasons for using this art style. All of them have been out of universe reasons, and none of them have mentioned an attempt to signify the unreliability of the narrative. If this was there intent, one assumes they would have said so at some point.

Also, if we're discussing precedents, the same episode works against you. It's the only time a historical narrative in this universe has seriously been called into question. To do so, they presented the tellers as clearly biased from the outset, and main characters signal their doubts. Within the self-same episode, the error was more or less admitted. By contrast, consider that Sozin's autobiography tracks perfectly with Roku's first hand account of their relationship. Rather incredible, given how bad of a light it puts the former in. Or again, the legends of the secret library were correct in all their given particulars, even though it had been lost to mankind for presumably centuries. Even in the episode "Avatar Day" where stories were being peddled for the benefit of a show trial, it ultimately turned out that there account of Kyoshi killing the man were still completely correct. When Iroh tells Zuko that initially, humanity all used to be the same, its presented as wise, profound insight, not as a piece of deeply questionable hearsay due to a lack of robust archeological support. This franchise is very forthright about telling viewers when they should not trust information. Therefore, the absence of any overt warnings against the accuracy of these episodes would suggest that they want us to take them as accurate.

Normally I'd rebut you, but something much more important has come up.

Hopefully the kids stay out of anything that doesn't really need them involved.

edit: Dang what is up with the boards today..

Ikki and Meelo can have their own schtick, but dangnabit Jinora should get more involved.

Perhaps as the show goes on, Jinora takes the Airbender position in new Team Avatar with Tenzin making occasional appearances, then by Book 4, Tenzin stops being involved permanently.

Well, I don't want Tenzin completely out, but it'd be cool if she were the Airbending member of the team, yeah. And perhaps even Korra's teacher like Katara was to Aang.

WTH is with you people and Jinora.. There's not much to her besides being Tenzin's daughter. She's the most boring of his kids.

Yes, it was really intriguing how she was so hateful to her own blood that her sister preferred living as a wild animal to spending another moment in her presence.

Also, thank you for the descending belittling quote. That was the best thing that happened to me all day.

It's like she was possessed by a Spirit. Maybe SHE is the one being influenced by Vaatu.

But seriously, obviously a lot of people want Jinora to take a more active role and for good reason; being the eldest of Tenzin's kids, shown that she can kick some ass during the raid against Air Temple Island, being well read, a sarcastic. And of course, all her stuff in The Southern Lights and in the trailer. And she's voiced by Kiernan Shipka.

Whether or not that'll extend into Books 3 and 4 remains to be seen but we already know she'll do something in book two. Notice how she didn't get a side-plot in an episode, whereas Meelo got to training flying lemurs and Ikki hung out with baby sky bison.

Meelo training flying lemurs was the most pointless padding sequence of all pointless padding sequences in history of film and television.

Agreed. I thought they were going to use it as a good lesson for TENZIN that everyone has their own teaching style and that there's not one good approach to how to teach someone. But nope. It was just for laughs for a Lemur army.

But even then - it's not like Tenzin has to be shoehorned into every episode. The following episode had no Tenzin, and was actually better, because it could devote more time to the development of the main plot.

And every time it comes back to Tenzin, it has to include his kids somehow. I'm just not a fan of it.

And Jinora may be the least annoying of the airbender kids, but no, I don't see any good reason for her to get any special attention or active role. But then, it's still a mystery why we've had to keep checking in on Tenzin at all, and Kya and Bumi are probably the most filler characters out of all them in this side plot.

I was just thinking about that family photo of Aang, Katara and their children from a few weeks ago. I'd love to see a family 'photo album', charting the childhood of Tenzin, Bumi and Kya. :)
