That was me. It wasn't a big deal, but I thought BB-8 was a little too much of a good thing in TLJ. I adored him in TFA.
I agree about BB-8's actions being over the top in TLJ, but IMO it was reminiscient of R2's actions in late AOTC and early ROTS, so I didn't mind, thinking "this isn't the first time we've seen a droid do stuff like this before." I didn't mind his hotwiring the AT-ST, but I thought it was abit silly that it ran. Walking, in familiar style would've been better IMO.
Those cables we see him use when he's being thrown around the Falcon in TFA? Fire near the top, reel himself in, fire another, disconnect, reel.
I think fans are in general a lot more forgiving of little flaws like this in the PT and even in the OT. The tropes are constant mirroring anyway, apart from tlj which is utterly bonkers mad
Those were some of the worst moments of AOTC and ROTS. Completely unfunny, terrible CGI, tension-killing, etc. Not sure that’s what I’d emulate from those films. Honestly, I got the sense RJ was kind of taking the piss with scenes like this one. It’s just a dumb space movie, after all...
Not at all. I love TCW. It was an animated series. And what passes muster in an animated series is different than what passes muster in live action.
...Or what passes muster in one's personal preferences as well. At any rate, I wasn't talking so much about whether I liked those scenes or not-but simply the fact that BB-8's antics on the Supremacy weren't the first time we've seen some stretches made with the actions that a droid takes in a dangerous situation.
R2-D2 being able to fly in the PT was kind of a surprise at first, but it generally fit the situation. I don't really think BB-8's antics in TLJ (firing the coins that the gambler had put in him, controlling the AT-ST, etc.) really fit a need so much as were just there to be funny. Also, let's try to steer this back to the topic of the thread:
[FINN]I have an idea for that[/FINN]: When Babu pops up in the end and shouts, he causes audio feedback so strong that it spills over to the FO's comm system and sinks their entire fleet.
When Kathleen Kennedy spoke of how the characters of the sequel trilogy would live on, clearly she had our sweet boy Babu front of mind.
adding to the legend of Babu Frik, we now have Ian McDiarmid on record saying if he were to play any other character in Star Wars it would have to be Babu Frik.
