This topic makes me want to dust off my copy.

As I recall, quick-slot is for wands and scrolls, which you equip through inventory.

Oh, and when did Yoshimo make fun of ninjas? Can't believe I missed that...

Have you had Aerie or Nalia reading the spell scrolls you find? Only the mage who reads the scroll learns the spell.

Spells on the left are spells you know, spells on the right are spells you have memorised. If they're faded out they're scheduled to be memorised at next rest. You click on a spell on the left to do that.

[TOB Tank] is a great character, though I doubt Excellence will care about him.

He's more mocking the idea of ninjas and how North Americans think that they're cool. Lines like "Fleet of foot and all that." "Very well. Hii-yah." "KIIIEEE! Heh, tourists love that stuff."

One of my favorite dialogs in the game is one that I very rarely get, as I rarely play evil: where Imoen and [TOB tank] discuss what it's like for [TOB tank] to have some of Imoen's soul in him.

    That's a good one.

I don't play evil usually either, but I get TOBT anyway and redeem him :)

I just started replaying this game myself. I still prefer it over it's predecessors and antecedents...something went right with this game that I can't quite put my finger on. It and KotOR are the only CRPGs I've finished, despite owning several more.

Look at what you've started, Excellence! We're all dusting the game off and playing through!

Imoen is my favourite NPC. She has the most interesting discussions, especially in Throne Of Bhaal. I especially liked her discussions with Edwin and Korgan. Although Minsc has a lot of funny stuff too.

I should probably refresh my memory and play BG2 again but I borrowed it to one of my friends about six months ago. Perhaps I should start asking it back soon.

You should purchase your own copy. This game = teh win.

Plus is has one of the most active mod scenes ever (for an RPG at least, I'm sure many FPSs are just as active).

I would never have known you can heal whilst sleeping, although enough times and you get the Jonny dreams. Good thing I asked here! No health bottles were drunk.

Thanks MarcusP2, the left spells are known, the right are waiting to be memorised or memorised.

Say, is there any character who can identify items without using a scroll or spell up front? I'm feeling miserly to waste them . . .

I know nothing about the Forgotten Realms universe or its books, so the significance of Tank I'm afraid is lost on me. All I know is that it's a fanatsy series that incorporates every archetype of species and food in one pot. I also don't have time to read any. Unlike KOTOR's simpler Dungeons and Dragons format, Shadows of Amn isn't designed for new entrants.

I was just curious, skipped ahead, but in the Graveyard suburb, there's a room with a few vicious spiders that leads to another chamber. Inside the small room, a woman laughs at me and . . . a tidalwave of spiders washes over me. Is there a site that tells you how to fight what creature? This room is in the bottom-middle of themap, but took me to 5 and a swift defeat.

^ I just played that last night. There are a lot of spiders but they are individually weak. A well-placed fireball will kill half on Round 1. The Horn of Blastng will kill them all instantly and slightly wound your party. The drow woman in there is easily trounced and you find a cool item on her corpse, too!

Anyone know if any modders got around to making a BGII conversion for Neverwinter Nights? That would be awsome. =P~ Would love to play this game again but I have a hard time playing 2d isometric games in this day and age. :(

You need either a bard (which is probably not a good fit for your party and is hard for new players to manage) or the glasses of identification (I think a merchant in Gaelan Bayle's house sells them). They identify items 3x per day (in actuality 3x between rests, I think).

Ah, the Bard next to the Mage it's my second favorite class. Jester just plain rocks as a PC class. Grab Haer'Dalis if you want some easy ID'ing. Although there are better reasons to get him. He has some great dialogue and really adds to the overall interaction of the party. And he is very flexible in terms of play style. But as was said Bards require a bit more work to play.

I saw the identification glasses, but funds are tight until I go to Nalia's castle. That's right; 3 items per day. I might get it.

    Haer'Dalis can ID outright? I'll find him . . .

I'm finding creative ways to fight enemies, but it makes for slow game play. After Capt Haegan's slavers in the boat, there are two Yu-tan somethings. I lure them afater me, and took cover inside a child's pen. With the door closed, I could hit them through the mesh wall unharmed. I did the same for the two wizards next room. I made them run out of spells, and didn't care of they charmed/confused my party.

I like the battle music. The game has good atmosphere I'll give it that. But SNES graphics? :_|

The graphics are a bit better than that... :p

In some ways, they've actually help up better than the Neverwinter Nights graphics. The painted tilesets mean that everything is pretty. It's just the awkwardly animated sprites and the inability to zoom around that detract. Still, for the time it was made (1998 for Baldur?s Gate, and I think 2001 for Baldur?s Gate II) the graphics were considered pretty snazzy.

    Get the glasses of identification!

As a veteran D&D player of both 2E and 3E, I can tell you without reservation that...

    Bards suck.

Hack and slash! Hack and slash! Sounds like a Monty Hall player with his Vorpal Chainsword of Smiting +10. :p

Bard is a very good class but since these computer games are focused so much on pure hack'n slash I usually avoid bards. There should be more bard-like quests available.

You have to do a pretty tough quest to get Haer in your party. Investigate some places where bards might hang out...

Assuredly not! I don't even know what a "chainsword" is!

I must say, the most crazy weapon I've ever used was a +5 keen icy burst katana. But that was a game with level 30 characters: it didn't even HIT all the enemies!

Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark has some pretty spiffy weapons. There's also a smith that lets you power up your weapons - I've dual-wielded +10 keen daggers that gave me haste, Vampiric Regenation +5, True Seeing, fire damage, and maybe a little more (been while, can't remember exactly what I got them up to).

Hey, I was a bard in Baldur's Gate I & II and NWN! Worked well enough.

I'm always a bard the first time I play games like this. I can't decide which class I wanna be so I pick bard because they have a mix of everything

I conquered the de'Arnise estate and forgot it doesn't become my stronghold. I was disappointed, but not the way Zorg was in 5th Element. I haven't used a single spell todate except to de-charm that guard inside. It would have been nice if the didn't explained why and how the Trolls invaded with such few numbers

Of course, I went back and killed all the Umbar Hulks I lured with the dog stew.
Do you realise Aerie is saying peeing underground is a strange experience? [face_laugh]

I'm pretty much fed up of getting charmed, confused and imobilised in other ways. How do you fight vamps? Why doesn't turning undead hurt them? What is energy drain? I'm finding that levelling up is nothing like KOTOR. Still, I'm glad I gave this another try. It's all trial and error.

Energy drain drains your levels. You want lots of Restoration scrolls. It takes a high level cleric to have a chance of turning vampires

Don't know if you meant for the whole game or just that section. But if you mean for the whole game, this might be the source of your Vamp problem. There are key spells that will shield your mind from Charm and confused, along with gear. Go through the cleric spells and mage spells in the manual and see what prevents or cures mind affecting spells. Or use spells that up your Saving throws against mind affecting spells.

Turn Undead only hurts Undead of considerable lower level then you. Energy Drain will make you lose a level. I think the idea is that the chill of the grave has zapped abit of your life force and the drop in level is a reflection of that.
