In the two subsequent losses, they’ve only scored 5-runs.

phillies/yanks game for tonight also postponed. not sure if this has to do with the marlins team still being physically located in philly as the site of their prior series, or additional cases.

Not being a sarcastic ass here, but are you aware of how the virus transmits and how outbreaks happen?

A group of people who spend a large amount of time together, some of it in fairly close contact ... that's exactly how an outbreak would happen, and it makes more sense to happen to a single team than strung out among several teams. This is why the NBA Bubble works where the MLB travel to home stadiums (that are empty) doesn't work as well. The NBA is able to control a lot more variables (though, apparently, not players going to Strip Clubs), while MLB is able to control ... very, very little. This type of outbreak was almost inevitable, given the MLB plan.

But, don't worry. The virus will be gone "soon"

Doesn't explain how while most teams might have one or two players tops testing positive; and Miami had nearly a quarter of their entire roster testing positive. The bottom line is this is the first time such a significant outbreak has occurred across an entire team. I don't know; maybe Miami's methods of isolating their players aren't up to par with most other teams.

It explains it fine? If you get the virus and get tested for it and isolated before you ever enter a locker room, you won't spread it to your team. If you get it and haven't been tested, then are in a locker room, suddenly a bunch of people on your team get it. We've got a massive cluster where I live that comes from exactly one person being in a night club at the wrong time. It's literally just the world's ****tiest game of chance.

It's two and a half months later.

The virus is gone! (from Marlins Park)

The Yankees and Philadelphia were supposed to have a four-game home at home series this week; would the Phillies be able to just play those first two games at The Stadium, maybe a double header tomorrow? Since there's no fans it shouldn't make much of a difference; and of course they'd get the home field advantage.

per stark/rosenthal, the marlins (and presumably mlb, who is handling contact tracing) knew of what medically qualifies as an "outbreak" within their team yesterday, prior to their game. four positive cases on friday and saturday, which is 10% of their traveling group. when asked, mattingly said that the team "never really considered not playing."

if major league baseball is unwilling to police this ****, it isn't going to work. we're less than a week in.

MLB is just trying to shove in an get as many of their regular season games in as possible without incident. Although; as much as I like Mattingly, he did come off sounding like a complete 8ss with that statement.

It's like I said months ago-- there isn't going to be a season this year. An attempt is being made, but it's not sustainable and will collapse.

Last night I heard about several Marlins players, eight I believe, including Jose Ureña (which means I’m biting my tongue and trying to be nice here) tested positive. Eight to fourteen is a big jump in one day.

Meanwhile Tyler Flowers and Travis d’Arnaud are out because they “don’t feel well” and are being tested. That will be five total Braves players if they are positive, although not all at once, Freeman recovered. And that’s with Snitker telling people they aren’t setting foot in the ball park without a negative test.

it's odd looking at these dugouts. you've got coaches in masks, players out of masks, both close to each other . i'm not sure how that adds up to stopping the spread.

The Marlins have to be done for the year right? The whole team has to be quarantined and there is no way they can make up two weeks of games. Unfortunately possibly the Phillies too due to the gross negligence the Marlins showed.

Does not look great. Least I got to watch three Twins games.

I was hopeful they could get the season in safely....but this after the first weekend? I worry about guys like Jon Lester and Anthony Rizzo....can't blame anyone for wanting to opt out after this and I wonder how many will, if the season even continues.

Edit: Oh and the Cubs are heading to Cincinnati where we could be seeing another outbreak. Good stuff.

It doesn't help that so few of the players are taking this seriously. The Tigers started opening day by sitting apart and air fiving after a highlight, but by game two they already dropped the air five, we're making tons of contact, and sitting next to each other talking face to face without masks. Some of the other teams I've seen never even air fived from the start. If the players aren't acting like getting the virus equals death, that one touch equals death, that all of their teammates have a radioactive radius of about six feet, then this isn't going to work. They aren't, so it's not.

Radio here is confident that there is a discussion about double headers on Wednesday and Thursday on the Bronx.

I feel horrid for the Miami players who tested positive but dayum if part of me isn't simply irrationally incensed that the Marlins... the MARLINS... came and played plague-fueled hero ball all over us and then coughed all over our stadium.

It hasn't been made official that tomorrow's game in Philadelphia was cancelled, has it?
