Yes. If they kill Hux, it's basically a carbon copy of Tarkin in ANH. The poetry, rhyming thing is all well and good, but it makes things pretty predictable after a while.
I am not sure about that, they offered Joaquin Phoenix the role first. You don't offer actors like that a role like Jabba the Hutt, who pretty much serves as a distraction to the main conflict (main villain remember) and is dispatched in fifteen minutes or less. No, this character has to be in the same, or close to the same, threat level as Snoke or Kylo Ren. That means this character is going to be Imperial / First Order; probably either a Moff or a Grand General or Grand Admiral.
the only problem with this, the one thing I really did not Like about the PT was there was a different Villain in every Prequel movie it seemed, I think the ST will mirror The OT more and have one main villain, at least I hope. May be Del Toro is a bounty hunter or something not the main Villain?
If you read the Variety article, it never states that Phoenix turned down the role. It actually says he is someone else they have considered for the role. It never states he has been ruled out or has turned it down. It actually reads like he is their #2 choice, so maybe if del Toro turns it down, Phoenix will be the guy? I think he will take the role the General Hux leaves free after he dies in TFA. Not saying their characters are going to be the same, but probably it means del Todo will play a First Order official.
When I first heard the news I thought that maybe he'll play Kylo Ren's master. We may hear of the character in VII and meet him in VIII. No one has to die necessarily.
I think he will play a high ranking officer in the First Order or I dare say a mercenary bounty hunter for hire. You could totally do this exact scene in Star Wars episode eight, just replace one word "boxing" for "Jedi".
I watched him in this recently and I am definitely leaning towards military officer: And for him to be a main villain he has to pose a threat to everything the heroes hold dear. When you got Liea being a General in the New Republic / Resistance military and secretly building superweapons like the Sledgehammer, when you got somebody on the power level as Luke on your side, bounty hunter / mercenary doesn't seem to cut it. For him to be a main villain the audience has to feel there is a real good chance he can completely undo everything the heroes hope to accomplish.
Agreed. Ren and Snoke can be the Vader/Emperor of the trilogy, but I think either Phasma or Hux will get killed (much like how Tarkin died in ANH).
"La senorita Bouvier!" That's pretty much the only movie I know him from (007: Licence to Kill, 1989).
