Senate "Biden Beats Trump" - The 2020 General Election Presidential Thread

Yep they are already saying on Twitter, "well debates don't matter after they were hyping it up that Tony Baloney's appearance would be bigger then when Trump brought Bill Clinton's accusers. Got egg on their face but that isn't new and we llearned debates don't move the needle much but this certainly didn't help DJT. Not unless having a 80 year old beat you senseless is a good thing for your campaign.

He did really well with those kind of "statement, let it hang" moments. Harder to do in a speaking role than it looks.

I don't really understand the chart because especially the closing statements and leadership/inauguration question seemed particularly bad, but I guess this focus group does what they do...

 

Surely if that was the case I'd object to Joe Biden, who very clearly doesn't think like me.

This wasn't about what people think, it was the behavior pattern. This was about you complaining about the word troll being used in the statement "Kids also troll the internet". That is not "kids share their sincere beliefs", trolling is acting in a disingenuous manner. Like, say, someone complaining about slang being used to refer to people while using slang terms to refer to groups of people.

Saying you're a troll isn't about different *beliefs*, it's about having a dishonest attitude and approach rather than discussing things in good faith.

 

If Trump did this in his first debate he might have been able to right the ship but it’s probably too late for him.

This was not a lopsided debate win for either candidate, I think I would even give Trump the slight edge on points (not substance, performance), but it was damn close. Biden tripped up at the end in his remarks of “transitioning away from oil” even if it’s an obvious course we’re heading, just don’t say it now as your closing your last debate. And politicos are making Biden looking at his watch a thing simply because of a past mistake of H.W. Prob not much will change but now Trump has a little something to run on for the last week. Polls were always gonna tighten.

Trump has nothing (again) In defending his coronavirus position and Biden killed him on healthcare, family separation, and race.

Don’t see too much changing.

I don't blame her a bit. It's hard to cry too hard for Melania, since A) she chose this life, and B ) by all accounts she's not a pleasant person. But still. If nothing else, the ****er unnecessarily gave her covid. She's got to have slave Leia nightmares where she chokes the guy out with her chain.

I want to believe that actual policies and some vision of the common good--however hazy--are relevant again. I mean--the past few years have revealed that there is a very deep sickness in the U.S., rooted in an almost solipsistic level of selfishness. That's not going to up and evaporate if Trump is no longer president. But it would be nice to live in a nation where even the appearance of sanity is in fashion again. I'm really tired of LARPing an antisocial 15-year-old's pastiche of the Illuminatus Trilogy and Call of Cthulhu.

I might show the ending to the kids tomorrow. It just is a reminder of a ameutuer DJT really at this. He couldn't wait to bolt from that stage as you can tell he was asking how long they had to stand there before they can leave while Joe was chatting with the moderator and grabbing his notes.

And this isn't a GOP vs Democratic thing. I remember after one of the 2000 debates GWB was up there forever after one of the debates, talking with the moderator and even signing a few autographs. You can tell he was comfortable in the spotlight. Trump though? He couldn't wait to get out of there as you really are exposed in a debate. It's not like giving an stump speech in front of your supporters. But in a debate you are exposed and have no surrogates to lean on therefore DJT wants nothing to do with it.

So Murdoch's tabloid paper pushes conspiracy theories while his real newspaper helps disapprove them. So bleep up on every level possible.

My main take-away's:

Biden: “500 kids lost and they don’t know where their parents are.” Trump: “Good.”

Trump also said he might even be better than Abraham Lincoln for black people, Trump still denied the reality of the pandemic, and Trump mocked Biden for wanting to talk about middle-class families struggling with everything.

 

Indeed, to be a bit specific, currently the new case rates in New York are, I believe, 6th best. Behind just Vermont, Maine, Hawaii, New Hampshire, and Oregon.

The six highest, incidentally, are North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wisconsin, Idaho, and Nebraska. They all have rates that are between roughly 5.5 and 12.5 New York's rate.

 

I think this was the most comprehensive defeat Trump has taken during a debate. Hillary hammered him personally, because that’s easy, but Biden beat him on issues of substance at every turn. Four years of Trump policy helps. Trump’s attacks haven’t worked as well this time around; Biden isn’t Hillary, Trump doesn’t have anything new and is using the same lines he used four years ago, and again, Trump is the sitting President this time so he can’t play the outside challenger.

And kudos for once again applauding Trump ****ing over America with his botched handling on the pandemic.

 

So, allegedly, Trump said "Go ahead" to the moderator. Not "good".

Still, he made his opinion on this issue crystal clear already.
