I honestly had no idea the show had been going on for so long, but it's kinda scary how about four generations of kids have had this show.

So what are your memories of this show? You may need to say what version you watched as I think there are around 40 versions and it's broadcast in 120 countries. And not just watching it yourself, but watching it with your kids. And a lot of celebreties have been on this show as well.

Favourite muppet and/or cast member? Feel free to post clips as well, as some some of them are rather funny when you look back now.

My own memories...I watched this show before I went to school like my sisters after me and there was usually a morning and afternoon session on the dear old ABC. It was the US version, though I didn't really know that and didn't know it for a long, long time. Funny how things are that way.

I used to have a whole series of Sesame Street books. Actually, I still do have them, with the Tweedlebugs and Show and Tell and Farley Goes to the Doctor.

My favourite Muppet is the Count, and still is even though he's got a girl for himself now. Though I had a soft spot for Oscar when he was with his pet worm slimy as well as Kermit's nervous breakdowns and Grover with mr Johnson at Charlie's Restaurant. The fast food sketch always cracks me up.

    Batty bat!

I am interested if anyone remembers the episode dealing with Mr Hooper's

I never watched Sesame Street as a kid, which could explain a lot of things.

Bob is STILL with The Street? Cool!

I remember the passing of Mr. Hooper, "I love Trash" and of course, the all time classic...

Big Bird was annoying. I always preferred Oscar the Grouch.

Didn't Snuffie start out as someone only Big Bird saw and they thought he was an imaginary friend?

But Snuffie's little sister Alice was so cute!

The original Big Bird, puppeteer Caroll Spinney still perfoms the Muppet today.

    He does Oscar too, right?

I was scanning the list of characters on wiki, funny how you forget stuff. Like the Honkers, or the Two-Headed Monster.

I've watched them from the beginning.

Said the alligator king to his seventh son
"My son, you win the crown. You didn't bring me diamonds or rubies
but you helped me up when I was down."

Loved it as a kid, loved it as a parent watching it with my kids. Elmo is a godsend compared to the craptacular Teletubbies, Barney, and Boobahs. Also, lol @ Baby Einstein Videos' fail.

What was it Stephen Colbert said about this on last night's show? Something like: "After 40 years, it's time to eat that bird!" lol
