In the time since this fine motion picture was released, no other work has come close to matching its quiet brilliance and social importance. It explores the nature of life and death; putting an almost-innocent spin on the latter through William Sadler's masterful portrayal of the Grim Reaper. It examines the conflict of good and evil; the Evil Robot Dudes acting as a metaphor for the darkness that resides in us all, and the Good Robots a representation of our desire to take control of our less-admirable qualities. It set man against machine in such a compelling way it puts The Matrix to shame. It took us through the Netherworld, and showed us a paradise beyond where we may find the peace and enlightenment that cannot be found in the physical reality.

Most importantly of all, it gave us all hope that through music and being excellent to each other, peace could finally be brought to this troubled world. Perhaps that hope has not been repaid with true peace, but I, and all those who have been touched by this film, continue to be excellent to each other and party on, knowing that one day the promise of Bill & Ted will be fulfilled.

Also, the air guitar was awesome. What contributions do you think this masterpiece has made to the society in which we live?

The Stations never made any sense to me. Why did they form into one big Station to make the good robot Bill & Teds when they could've gotten them done much easier split into two Stations?

No, I think, actually, that Manos: The Hands of Fate is the pinnacle of Western Civilization. The classic story of good vs. evil vs. suicidal actors pretending to be goat men. The Faustian bargain and thrilling denouement. The capturing of the modern attention span by filming with a camera that couldn't record more than 30 seconds of footage at a time. The existential angst of driving, driving, and more driving, without actually getting anywhere...

beause the stations were'nt the smartest being in the universe as the two little guys, with thier smarts combined, they were clever enough to build the Good Robot Bill and Ted

I believe the Stations were intended to be a metaphor for unity and cooperation between nations; and the Big Station was meant to represent the United Nations.

They probably went too far with this, though. As you say, it's far more realistic that these two troll-like alien scientists would make greater progress as unique entities, and they would still act as a shining example of the importance of cooperation.

Perhaps the filmmakers were suggesting the world would be better of if we were to cede soverign powers to a supranational body?

Yes, the 15 minute driving sequence (broken up in 30 second segments) was one of the most powerful in all of cinema.

And the women with the red ribbon "tails" were hot.

Very astute observations, my friend. However, I would like to think that George Clooney?s Good Night, and Good Luck has made some small measure of impact, due in no small part to the contributions of a certain supporting player.;)

It explores the nature of life and death; putting an almost-innocent spin on the latter through William Sadler's masterful portrayal of the Grim Reaper.

This only underlines the fact that, when all is said and done, Bengt Ekerot will always be known as a "poor man?s" William Sadler.

It examines the conflict of good and evil; the Evil Robot Dudes acting as a metaphor for the darkness that resides in us all, and the Good Robots a representation of our desire to take control of our less-admirable qualities.

Yes, the film is rife with complex allusions.

It set man against machine in such a compelling way it puts The Matrix to shame.

Mr. Reeves also gives a career performance in Bogus Journey, one unmatched even by his skillful portrayal of Neo in The Matrix. "Whoa!" indeed.

It took us through the Netherworld, and showed us a paradise beyond where we may find the peace and enlightenment that cannot be found in the physical reality.

The film?s transcendent ideals continue to resonate to this very day. Bill and Ted?s Bogus Journey's profundity was such that it forced me to reconsider my bourgeois lifestyle - I forewent the simplicity and shallowness of materialism and instead sought to get back in touch with my elemental being.

This explains why Wayne?s World will be forgotten, whilst Bill and Ted endures in the annals of time.

Also, the air guitar was awesome. What contributions do you think this masterpiece has made to the society in which we live?

It would be easier to count the ways in which it did not impact society.

The existential angst of driving, driving, and more driving, without actually getting anywhere...

That sounds rather like a recent film directed, written by, and starring Vincent Gallo. Of course that one did have a climax of sorts?I guess....

    Never mind.

Meh. I didn't really like that movie. It didn't have the charm of the first one. Although I really loved the scene when Bill & Ted duel with Death ;)

Bravo, Mr. Langella. Bravo. It is most heartening to see that this film has had such a positive impact. Kudos to you, sir, for making the effort to apply its philosophical and spiritual ideals to your own life.

This explains why Wayne?s World will be forgotten, whilst Bill and Ted endures in the annals of time.

Oh, I concur. Although there is much pain, sadness, and uncertainty in the world, I know that there is hope for future generations as long as they hold this film dear and live their lives as Bill and Ted would... being excellent to each other.

'I bahlieve. It was Colonel Mahsturd in the Conservahtory with da candlestick!'

This was indeed a most fascinating scene. I find it interesting that Bill and Ted were able to defeat the Grim Reaper, as he claimed no one had succeeded before. Why did Bill and Ted win? Was it simply not their time, or is there a suggestion here that being excellent to each other can allow one to overcome the great beyond?

Perhaps the defeat of Death reflects an optimism in the world following the fall of the Soviet Union and the destruction of the Berlin Wall that we might escape the shadow of death and destruction that had loomed over us for so long. The fact that Bill and Ted succeeded with simple games often played by children was also interesting -- were the filmmakers suggesting that the key to peace lay in the carefree fun of youth? Or perhaps the fact these games are manufactured by large multi-national corporations represents the triumph of capitalism; that our mass-produced goods can overpower forces even as powerful as death.

It's also intriguing that the Grim Reaper was unable to guess the identity of the murderer correctly when playing Cluedo. Surely Death would be the foremost authority on such matters. I think this may be the filmmakers expressing their dismay at the seemingly indiscriminate nature of death: so many that deserve to live end up dead before their time. This failure on the Reaper's part to determine that the murderer was in fact Professor Plum perhaps suggests that Death is often mistaken in his work, and many who end up dying early were not truly destined to meet that fate.

This film works on so many levels. I continue to be impressed by its brilliance.

This movie also shows us a truth that transcends time: babes are like "whoah."

Indeed they are. And clearly our heroes needed their princesses if they were to succeed in their heroic musical endeavours. Again the film promotes a message of unity and cooperation, this time between the sexes.

out of curiosity, how is this show related to Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure? Are they one in the same, like Critical Decision & Executive Decision with Kurt Russel and Steven Seagal? or they different movies of the same series?

I can't decide which one I like better, the first one or the second one. But both are rather entertaining to watch when they appear on TV once in a while.
