Her performance is excellent, but I think it's clear that Bo joining the covert was in no way involuntary, and was in fact something she expected or wanted to have happen.

I'm not saying it was something she "engineered" or "manipulated", mind you, because that implies too much diagnosis of calculation and realpolitik for her right now, but neither would the words "hoped" or "prayed" work, since those imply too much clearly benign or positive intentions for us to glean from her at this moment.

Bo clearly chose to keep her helmet on and refrain from her usual anti-Creed diatribes and snark while Din was recovering from his near-drowning, against her usual behavior and previously deeply held opinions; clearly, she had realized that by the teachings of the Children of the Watch, she had the ability to join them now, and she didn't want to lose that option. Yet she also neither makes overt requests or actions to try and get Din to take her to the Watch on one hand, which would clearly imply either a full religious conviction or a clear political gambit, nor does she share the existence of the Mythosaur with Din when that's highly pertinent and revelatory information regardless of one's beliefs.

We can tell Bo knows now that Din and the Watch are all something she has an "in" on, and now it would behoove her, regardless of her end-goal or character, to join the organization that has Din, the Darksaber, and knowledge of Mandalore not being cursed.

The question is whether this is Paul on the road to Damascus, someone looking out for the lovable idiot who keeps stumbling into a Hero's Journey, or a traumatized and desperate former leader looking for a comeback...

To be fair, she was only there because TIE Bombers blew up her castle. Plus, Din said it might be a good idea to keep her helmet on and since she already knew he was in a crazy cult, she's smart enough to know to curb any snarky comments or any signs of disrespect.

Plus, Armorer made it pretty clear she can leave whenever she wants. I'm sure that part was added for a specific reason for the story. But yeah, we'll see. Because in the grand scheme of things, once these Covert Mando's are mixed in with the other Warrior ones like Axe and Koska, I'm sure there's going to be some changes needed from both groups of Mandos beliefs in order for them to all become united.

    Yup.

...It's just that Bo has always been pretty quick and casual about taking her helmet off when not in a combat situation, and her keeping her helmet on all the way from the Living Waters to the dogfight near her ruined castle stands out as highly irregular behavior of hers; I again don't think she's yet firmly decided to go after the Watch yet, but her keeping it on that long hints at her making a decision to at least keep that option open at that time.

I even think her seemingly-casual inquiry about Din probably not handling a feast because of the helmet thing strikes me as her double checking that keeping his helmet on is necessary (as it would be for her), especially since Bo Katan doesn't seem like the "throw a feast for a sometime ally" type of person at the best of times - its not her style.

I also *do* expect her to join Din in trying to organize the Watch's coming fight for Nevarro so that they don't embarrass themselves by all going Leeroy Jenkins - and when that happens, I think that will clarify her position and goals a bit more. If she deliberately tries to just act as Din's wingman in doing so, that might hint at more overtly altruistic and heroic goals. if she tries to keep herself as his peer and maybe gets a tiny bit practically bossy... that might be a red flag of her starting to shore up her personal position.

Yes I should've made it clear. The acting is great. I mean in-universe, she is now more covert
It looks like all the Mandos are going to have to compromise.

But as for Bo-Katan's true intentions, she's evidently holding back. We just don't know why yet, and she is perhaps more "under cover" by adopting the ways of the Way (i.e., the covering up of her emotions with a helmet).

The COTW have only accepted her because of an unwitting atonement really. There's definitely some revelation going on for Bo-Katan so I'm sure Din will sort things out and unify their differences.

Before taking on a greater enemy...

This was my feeling. I assume she's just taking a "wait and see" attitude, for now.
I think she doesn't want to tell anyone until she decides what she thinks of it herself. Right now, she's questioning what she believes. And until she figures that out, she'll play things safe.

Exactly. That's what I meant by "involuntary" originally. She clearly needs a place to stay for now and her acting when the Covert were congratulating her was that of somebody being uneasy about that revelation. Not really someone who was excited about the news. But yeah, between her seeing the mythosaur, both in real life and in the Armorer's plaque, I wonder if we'll get a nice convo scene between them two about it next week. If it isn't another bait & switch episode[face_laugh]

I am leaning toward it being a matter of her processing what she saw within herself because... the moment she actualizes having seen the Mythosaur, she really has no choice but to commit to the whole "children's tale" version of what it means to be a Mandalorian.

Yes, and maybe the Armourer/Covert need to adopt a more Bo-Katan style of things in order to no longer be in exile.

Compromises on both sides maybe? Roll on Din's negotiations...

Yeah, it'll be nice to get some canon that's consistent going forward when it comes to Mandos because some these clan members with The Armorer, who took the creed, were from the same clans that pledged to Bo-Katan in Rebels. And most of them were not wearing helmets there.

I think she is questioning everything and right now, she knows that the CoTW is her best way to find out more about the mythosaur. She needs that knowledge and her currently cooperating as part of the covert is the best way of getting that info. The interesting part will be who she ends up revealing the mythosaur to, whether it is Din, Ahsoka, Sabine or the armourer, maybe totally left field it could be Viszla before she knocks him off or something but I doubt that it the path they go down. I do wonder whether Bo will end up realising that she is not the rightful ruler to unite Mandalore and that it is in fact Din or Grogu and this knowledge of the mythosaur, the fact Din has the dark sabre and a little half Jedi / half-Mando kid ultimately makes her realise all the signs are there and she needs to get behind him...or marry him and they share rulership which would be a really cool route to go down.

I don't think she's committed, yet, but her beliefs have been shaken. And now she's questioning what the right path is. Is it "The Way"? Maybe. But, if she was sure, she would have told them about the Mythosaur. She's holding back, because she's undecided. In the meantime, she's not alone anymore. And that's better than the alternative, for now.

I loved Sakhoff in BSG, as she’s allowed to really tear into the role, and according to Sackoff, she shares a lot of Thrace’s character traits in real life. So it’s a natural fit.

I think her live action Bo-Katan is less successful and rather one note. Playing a scion of an aristocratic house just isn’t a natural fit for her, IMO. The acting is a touch too stiff and surface-level.

That said, I can’t wait to see more of her story…Such is the power of the Mandalorian!

She's still better than Carano -- a perfect replacement.

Din's helmet is a better actor than Carrano.

The actress who plays Elia Kane is better. And is a new actress.

Surely the Mando writers thought of COTW and the Armourer as a bit of mystic fun, rather than in-depth exposé of cult replication and indoctrination?

    I'm sure it's just harmless...

..or have I just adopted the ways of cult already? Is this...the Way?

I like her..and am glad they got her as she originated the role in TCW. But I would also say to give her time. She has not had much live action screen time as Bo.

IMO, she's knocking it out of the park playing internal conflict and crisis of faith. I never much liked her as Starbuck, and her earlier episodes as Bo didn't do much for me, but now she's the most interesting character on the show to me.
