all 3 ladies involved have alternative costumes they could wear & they could all still be involved but alass, they are not allowed :(

Skipp raised another good point...they can't accomodate 15 people walking ? Strange, it's not like we're trying to fit 15 people into our Norwood trailor float o_O

Toddi- =D= They might end up being run over by a GIANT rocketship or a HUGE clown float [face_laugh]

    gah... begun the wars have

I just wanna make it clear, this is what they asked for. I tried getting more but its all ballanced on time frame meters and how much space is used.

as stated this is a support role I offered a number of optiopns and in this instance this is what they wanyed. I accepted knowing that in the future we wll be able to put more to it.

as for 501 \saffers the list is effectively people who are members of both.

basically guys, I wish I could of done more but this year they have pretty much already had things worked out from last october. next year we have a shot of now doing something fantastic and that's what we have to see this opportunity as.

I refuse to appologise for any tough decisions i've had to make in this instance, jedi were offered and refused.

anyways I just would appreciate people either coming to me or DLA before stating this was all done unfairly or without representation. Yes it sux for those who raised there hand but they wanted a specific, uniform look.

as mentioned if ya wanna know the speifics come talk to me. Not attack the outcome here..

excuse bad spelling this was all done on my phone

oh and luche has taken the RG position with her new costume.

I think this is the salient point here. This pageant is a huge exercise and now Star Wars has a foot in the door. Its not for us speculate on the decision processes used by the organisers, and we know that the general public's appreciation of the finer points of the universe far far away is not always the best ( .. I'm over the "Look its Darth Vader" thing .... I am, .. really.... I'm making great progress with my therapist ;) .. ).

You also have to consider that it can be a bit risky involving licensed characters in the parade without the consent of the license holders. The last thing anyone wants is Lucasfilm getting heavy with the Adelaide City Council.

But when the organisers see the sad look on little Johnny's face when the parade passes by and there were no Jedi, they'll come to see the light. :)

I know this is easy for me to say to say (being included and all..), but i want to say this:

Thank you Dave. From the bottom of my heart.

This is the start of something HUGE.

Bear this in mind, all: The Credit Union Christmas Pageant has been limited to Credit Union Employees.

    Until Now.

The C.U.C.P. (!!!) has always been about Christmas and Christmas themes....when has there EVER been 'commercial' or 'pop culture'included???

    None! Until now.

This is an acknowledgement of what we already know to be true. The characters of Star Wars are enduring, endearing and a part of of our very culture.

I agree that the selection is narrow, but it the decision of the C.U.C.P. people, and I for one, pray that we do such an awesome job, that they will take it to the next level again.

This is the single biggest street parade in Adelaide, and one of biggest, most enduring SA traditions. I, for one, was staggered that they even contemplated it, let alone included us (the small number may be reflection of soime trepidation, too...remember that this is a huge break from tradition for them too!).

A BILLION kudos to Dave for having the kahunas to even put it to them!!!

This is year, 9 costumes....next year, 15-20-30.....a float? Who knows......

    It has begun.

    Did I say thanks, Dave?
    =D=

It's good to hear that SAFF participation has been confirmed, but it's very disappointing to hear about the organisers not wanting jedi or other well known face characters. Very surprising in fact!!!

In addition to the preparations for next year, might I also suggest that someone in SAFF compile a portfolio of all SAFFers, with their relevant costumes, including photos of us in the costumes. We have a lot of members now, with a number of us who have multiple costumes (and more in the works), and it would benefit SAFF to have something that represents us well :)

It's easy for people who don't know Star Wars to not think of characters because they honestly don't know Darth Vader from a Biker Scout (in fact, it happened last night!!!!). We know because we are fans, but they don't. Show them and at the very least, they can instantly see SAFF being well represented with our diverse range of costumes from all films :)

As well as keeping a printed version of this for meetings, this would be excellent for our SAFF website. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a full length image to show the costume being worn, with the character name above it, and the member name. Obviously you can only have that person as one character at a time! lol I dont have a clone, although somtimes I wish I did ;)

After careful deliberations I have decided to have AIEL as Princess Leia.

She has accepted this role and I thank her for doing so.

After realising that although we have "Other Leia's" whose costumes look absolutely stunning, I feel that Aiel's costume is more recognisable than the others due to the Hair Buns.

I formerly apologize to all other Potential "Leia's" but this is my decision. I know you ladies have worked hard on your costumes and as mentioned earlier, they all look stunning.

    So to summarize my decision:

Guri: Queen Amidala - Purple Travelling Gown
Aiel: Princess Leia - Traditional "Hair Buns" Leia

If either of these two girls cannot make it I will alter my decision

Not Really, they knew what they wanted, they wanted a uniform look, and the Organiser had already seen footage of parade's done oversea's with star wars characters.

He was pretty specific in what he wanted, they wanted a uniform aka similar looking characters, he knew the stormie and scout look similar as he was already aware of the rose ball parade not to mention others (Between initial contact and now he had done a massive amount of research) What they wanted is what they decided upon.

It was all going to be stormtroopers until i brought up the fact that they might wanna include a couple of female characters in it, and then it was only going to be 6 people.

I think we all have to move on from this, it is how it is and it's how they want it.

    Please note -
    1 x Darth Vader (Darth Hunky) - SAFF / 501st
    2 x Royal Guards (Tyken /Luche) - both SAFF / 501st
    2 x Scout Troopers (Quinten / Evil) - both SAFF / 501st
    2 x Storm Troopers (tk671 / ?) - 1 501st exclusively & if Rui takes the other spot 1 SAFF / 501st
    1 x Leia - Aiel - exclusively SAFF
1 x Queen (there words not mine, but he's refering to padme) - Guri - exclusively SAFF

    ONLY 1 so far exclusive 501st.. - 2 exclusive SAFF - do the math people. 5 possibly 6 SAFF / 5 - 501st.
Yes, whilst it would have been better to have more SAFF & more 501st - there is no imbalance between the 2 groups. The only imbalance is between troops & Jedi. To make a statement that the 501st goes to the big time is an insult to those of us who are in BOTH groups.

QJ - it probably didn't come across in my constructive criticism (I definitely know what it's like working with people who are less of an expert in the particular field I'm promoting), but great work in getting this off the ground. It's obviously not an easy thing to get your foot in the door. My comments were in no way directed to you.

The slight tone of disappointment is with the organisers in terms of this bit...

It looks great with 20+ armoured characters, but with just a few it might be a little sparse.

Of course it's an organiser's perogative to do what he/she wants, but the lack of vision ;) (especially with regard to Jedi etc) perhaps is a tad disappointing, especially being the 30th anniversary. On and upward then. I think this year's Norwood pageant (which I can finally attend :) ) will be the biggest. I think it will be the best opportunity for photos and we could put together a nice portfolio for the CU pageant people for something to think about for the future ;)

BTW, I know for a fact you don't need to be an employee to get in it (though it obviously helps if you want to be a generic clown etc), close enough to them in some way usually works. ;)

We are attached to a float / group... So we are amongst 30+ people... hence the small size

I respect that is what they wanted, I was just saying that I think it would be good for SAFF to have a portfolio that represents all of us and our diversity in an easy to read format. My experience last night in Melbourne showed me that there are many people who don't know what the respective Star Wars costumes are. I wasn't implying that the people organising the pageant were such people. Just trying to improve future relations and SAFF appearances.

Thank you for your efforts Quin, I meant no malice by my earlier comments, I guess I was disappointed, sure I wasn't alone there.

Good Luck to those involved, maybe the rest of us can be somewhere with the Banner and cheering?
