Who founded it? Dark Forces: Jedi Knight says that Kaan was its creator, whereas Vader: The Ultimate Guide says that Darth Ruin established it. Was this a mistake?

Did Ruin create the New Sith Empire and rebuild the Sith, but Kaan merely establish the Brotherhood of Darkness (perhaps like there are Mandalorians, and then there are True Mandalorians, Death Watch, Neo-Crusaders, etc, within the Mandalorians)?

The new sith empire was the Brotherhood of Darkness if I'm correct. Or at least it became. It was powerful for the first part of those 1000 years, with Lords controlling various systems (like moffs), but between opposing lords killing one another and the Jedi doing the same, the group became very small. I think Kaan then renamed them "Brotherhood of Darkness"

"Brotherhood" . . .? I like this male term not. Star Wars can develop beyond its '70s anti-femaling, and must.

Sith Lords are not feminists, and the "Sisterhood of darkness" sounds stupid anyhow. :p

"Only Sith view extremes" DarthBoba---why are you looking at it as fixed gender? I'm just saying, it shouldn't have been a brother- or sisterhood. Something neutral.

Excellence - If it makes you feel any better, think upon X-Men. The Brotherhood of Mutants has featured among others the Scarlet Witch, Mystique, and Rogue. It doesn't have to be a males-exclusive term. Just remember that, absent a definitive and exclusive femininity, the English language always defaults to the masculine.

How about "Personhood of Darkness". BTW Happy/Merry Christmas/Hanukkah/Ramadan/Kwanza to every one who celebrates it and to no one who is offended by any/all of these.

Dark Ruin, the Jedi spawned, created the New Sith Empire 2 000 years ago, when begin the New Sith Wars, but the name Brotherhood of darkness only concerns Kaan's army, created by Kaan himself just before the Battle of Ruusan, and lead to fight against the Army of Light...
However, it's just the name of the army of Kaan's warriors...

lol, I like the Sorority of Darkness idea.

Ex! They're Sith, and their founder is a guy! Of course he's gonna go for absolutism and call it a brotherhood!

I'm not familiar with Darth Ruin yet (only read the Old Republic portion so far) but the first mentioning of "Brotherhood of Darkness" timeline-wise was Kaan...

I prefer the "Legions of Darkness" idea, myself. Sort of harkens back to the "Legions of Lettow" back in the great-great-great-great-and so forth grandpappy of the Dark Jedi, Xendor's, time.

But, hey, in the modern age, the term "brotherhood" seems to encompass all people.

How about forget all the politically-correct surnames and embrace the wider fact that the English language defaults to the masculine? :p ;)

The Brotherhood of Darkness undoubtedly had females in it...one has to wonder if any of those females ever demanded that Kaan be more "gender sensitive" in his nomenclature. Equally, one has to wonder how long those hypothetical questioneers lasted after uttering such nonsense.

Random Sith Female: "Lord Kaan, we, and by 'we,' I mean the collective array of female sadists you've assimilated into your ranks for the 'Brotherhood of Darkness,' feel that we're being discriminated against by the name of the aforementioned organization. Any chance you can change it to reflect a more 'embracing' title?"

Lord Kaan: So you, and by 'you,' I mean the collective array of female pawns I've recruited into my ranks, feel that I, the proprietor and benevolent ruler of this hitherto unimpeachable organization, should change our policy to accomodate your "sensitivities"?

    Random Sith Female: "Well, yes."

    Lord Kaan: "I see..."

    *Female Sith's head explodes*

Lord Kaan: "Request granted. No Feminazis allowed. How's that for appealing to your sensitivities?"
