They recast her.

I think the alive but we never see her again is the most likely option

 

Reinventing the role and changing the actor, I can accept that.

 

I think it's fortunate that Cara Dune's story arc is pretty much wrapped up at this point. Personally I don't think it will be a huge loss if she doesn't appear in the show again. With a potential time skip and a focus on the fate of Mandalore, does it really matter if Cara Dune makes another appearance or not? If Carano left the show under better circumstances I could see recasting her but with the continuing toxicity between her supporters and her detractors recasting her seems like pouring gasoline on a fire.

If Disney were to go the recasting route, I definitely agree with you that Lucy Lawless would be a good stand in. She's almost 6 feet tall and has a commanding presence that would definitely fit the character. I also think that Lawless is a better performer than Carano so I wouldn't be opposed to such a recast.

 

Lucy Lawless is a gem. Plus she's already played a heroic, tough as nails woman before. I'm glad we agree.

We should just start a hashtag #LucyLawlessIsCaraDune or something.

Steele Saunders made a great point in his most recent Hyperchat about the role being tainted/a poison chalice now - add to that, that Lawless is what, 15/20 years older than Carano and I’d say the idea of a recast is pretty horrible all round.

Reality is she’s not that big a part of the show or story, as cool of a character Cara Dune was she will not be missed and the show will function fine without her.

 

That's a fair point about lawless being significantly older and about a recast, but they could also bring in a new character to replace her?

It really doesn't bother me either way. I'm just throwing ideas around. I agree with you too, that she wasn't a big part of the story. She was only in a few episodes.

I see no reason for a recast... Disney made their decision so they should move on with a new character or characters; I'm sure they will have plenty of people watching regardless.

 

I don't think she'll be recast, the character is not important enough for it to be necessary. They'll just avoid including Cara Dune in future stories and we'll likely never hear about her again.

I was kind of excited to see where it would go from here with her. I could have totally see a Leia tie in. But I'm content with her not being involved now.

 

Not gonna lie, character-wise she suddenly got a lot more interesting in that scene in the shuttle cockpit in the season finale. Or at least the scene as a whole was really interesting and well enough written and directed that Carano's actual performance didn't matter. Still, the point's been made that the show is very elastic in terms of its side cast. Some characters you don't expect to come back do (the Mythrol); others that seem like naturals don't (the Armorer). No arcs are really guaranteed completion other than the title character's, at least so far.

 

I liked Cara Dune's spunk a lot, and I would have watched a Cara Dune miniseries if it had been made. But I'm completely fine with the character disappearing from the universe without a trace, I just don't think she's important enough to recast. There are plenty of other strong women whose stories could be expanded even further, I particularly like Bo-Katan.

I don't mind recasts when they're done well, like Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo or Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, or even the entire TOS Trek cast in the Bad Robot movies.
