Yay for her not looking like this.

Though tbh, I think I saw a costume like this at one of the celebrations... but it was a guy.

    Just a question.

If Carrie suffered from cancer, and gained weight as a result of her treatment, would you still make fun of her?

Yeah, making fun of someone's weight is real funny...

Making it even funnier is making fun of someone who suffers from one of the most severe, crippling, life-changing mental illnesses on the planet.

Watch this so you can see just how funny it is.

    But she doesn't have cancer...

And typically people lose weight when they have cancer from their treatments. Typically...

People, I have absolutely no problem with her being fat. It happens, so what. I'm fat and really don't care. I will love Leia whatever her scale says, so really, get over it.

The point is, she has a disease...like cancer. And yet, we find so much fun in making fun of her, and a lot of her weight gain could be attributed to her treatment for Bipolar.

But I'm sure you know that from watching the film I linked to in the post above. :)

I don't think you can really compare cancer and bipolar disorder. They are both terrible to have to deal with but not even close to being the same.

    Does your brain understand analogies?

    I'm not comparing diseases.

I'm pointing out the fact that most people would in fact not make fun of her if her weight gain was indeed caused by something like treatment for cancer.

And yet, if it's the result of treatment for Bipolar, it's just knee-slapping hilarious.

It's OK, I'll leave it at that. I'm just amazed at some of the posts in this thread. Well, disappointed is a better word, actually. Very disappointed.

They're both diseases. In fact, cancer has a far better cure rate than Bipolar, which unfortunately cannot be cured. Yet.

A lot of Carrie's weight gain is due to her disease...well, the treatment for it.

    How is that funny?

Yes. Gaining weight is hysterical, regardless of how.

Indeed, it really ups the ante.

I haven't seen it, but just from the summary it looks like it could beat Simple Jack as the funniest movie of all time.

It's not like Carrie hasn't lost an impressive amount of weight before, her in 2007 after loosing loads of pounds, if she can get back into this shape - she's fine for VII for me! Stop hating on her current physical appearance, I guarantee someone in here can't even look down and see their toes anymore.

I get what you are saying. Mental illness still carries a stigma in our society. It is under diagnosed and markedly under treated. The lack of awareness by many in our society, often leads to an underestimation of the impact mental illness has on individuals who suffer from it

Let's keep the conversation off Carrie's personal issues or this is getting locked.

    Thank you. Some sanity.

Seriously...this is frickin' Princess Leia back in action.

    Say it with me.

Princess Leia is going to be in a new star wars movie.

It almost brings me to tears. :D

    BEST.POST.EVER.

Love the sarcasm. I think alot of people on these boards are taking such remarks very personally. I apologize if any of my reservations about Carrie and Mark's physical appearance personally offended someone. However, with that said, I will continue to voice my opinions and reservations but just realize it isn't personal. I'm not perfect by any means but I'm also not playing a Jedi Master or Princess. Harrison Ford is a little heftier than his 1977 self but not by much. He looks good for his age. I have high hopes that Carrie and Mark will slim down and tone up between now and the film shoot.

Well, sorry... I've only seen one person mention Mark's appearance, and plenty mention Carrie's. And I haven't been here long, so I would have missed it if you're talking about when the rumours first started flying.

I agree with you on the EU book covers, they change their hairstyles a bit and add a bit of grey and maybe some terribly-drawn facial lines, but it is pretty misleading. And I think that in the descriptions in the books, Han's the only one who's said to have gained a little weight, at least during NJO.

In which case she looks fine? I watched Wishful Drinking last night and she's thinner now than she was then, though she's looking more lined and stuff than she did in that. Totally normal. I'd love to have her back. She's wonderful.

Definitely, especially to the last part - I said in another thread about what I want to see but probably wouldn't, is more of Leia sort of dealing with the notion that a man who tortured her and who terrorised the galaxy is her father. The EU's basically ignored it.

Also it'd be cool if the new Republic (or whatever they decide to call it) has instances of Jedi-phobia or Force user-phobia because of Vader. Not to mention, after the Battle of Endor what was mostly a secret - that Palpatine was a Sith Lord as well as a political dictator - is revealed, certain people might start getting paranoid about any Jedi's (including Leia's) ability to use the Force, for fear they might use it to first influence people and then take over.

OK so yeah I'm late posting but... wasn't the thing I read today (3/6/13) an "official" confirmation?
That would make Leia & Han now, so far, officially...
